Emma Crossen, Courage Campaign
Brett Kavanaugh lied under oath. He has a decades-long record as an extreme right-wing partisan.
And now a courageous woman has come forward to describe how she was sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh as a young woman.(1)
Four Republican Senators have said the vote on Kavanaugh should be delayed so that Kavanaugh’s victim, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, can be heard.(2) But Kavanaugh’s allies have already begun a campaign of character assassination against Dr. Ford, who is now a well-respected college professor. We need to stand with her.
The details in the Washington Post article are so egregious that even KellyAnne Conway, one of Trump’s most ardent defenders, said, “This woman should not be insulted and she should not be ignored.”(3)
And Republican Senators Jeff Flake and Lindsey Graham, who are on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said the survivor should be heard from. They were joined by Senators Bob Corker and Lisa Murkowski, who already had reservations about Kavanaugh.(4)
This is a turning point for Kavanaugh, who was already incredibly unpopular due to his anti-woman, anti-choice, anti-immigrant stances on the law. Now even Republicans are admitting that he may not be the right choice for the Supreme Court.
But Donald Trump and the Republican leadership are not going to give up on their nominee, who they’re counting on to bolster their ultra-conservative agenda for decades to come. And they know that any delay weakens their chances of confirming Kavanaugh at all, so they are going to try to push through a vote this week.
Every senator needs to hear that Kavanaugh’s vote must be delayed while an investigation takes place. Will you chip in $5 to help stand with Dr. Ford and stop Kavanaugh?
