TO: Your members of Congress
Pass the Special Counsel Independence Protection Act (S. 1735)
The U.S. intelligence community is in agreement that Russia attacked American institutions and leaked information designed to undermine and reduce faith in our democratic process. It is critical that we get to the bottom of what happened and begin to set security in place to protect our democracy from being further undermined.
We need a healthy democracy to defend our environment.
Support this bill that would help protect Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
It is also critical that the investigations are conducted free of political interference. That’s why, as your constituent, I urge you to put in place stronger checks and balances that protect special counsels from being fired when investigating a president or their administration. Please pass the bipartisan Special Counsel Independence Protection Act (S. 1735) to prevent the firing of a special counsel without judicial review.
The Special Counsel Independence Protection Act is similar to a now-elapsed law established in the wake of the Watergate scandal. It’s clear now that these important checks and balances need to be restored.
We need to defend our democracy, the rule of law, and faith our institutions. This bill is one important step in doing this.
