Dear secretary of state,
Donald Trump and his associates planned, promoted, and paid for a criminal conspiracy that became the January 6 insurrection. Trump incited a deadly white supremacist mob in attempt to overturn the 2020 election results.
According to the U.S. Constitution, that disqualifies him from ever holding office again. Section three of the Fourteenth Amendment, the “insurrection clause,” makes clear that anyone who engaged in attempting to violently overthrow the US government after swearing an oath to protect it is barred from being given that responsibility again.
As your constituents, we urge you to uphold the Constitution and keep him off the 2024 ballot.
Just this week, Colorado’s Supreme Court ruled that Trump is ineligible for appearing on the 2024 presidential ballot, deciding that the 14th Amendment does indeed apply to him. We urge you to follow suit to protect our democracy.
