The Week in Crazy … and a Reminder for 2014 Voters

This is a repost from June 2013 …

10 Crazy Things the Right Did … This Week

By  ThinkProgress War Room

Another week of the insane, inane, and outright offensive. Here’s your top ten:

  1. House Republicans pass plan to deport DREAMers. Just as the Senate is about to consider a bipartisan immigration reform plan, House Republicans, led by virulently anti-immigrant Rep. Steve King (R-IA), passed a mean-spirited plan to deport DREAMers. Boos filled the chamber as the vote was gaveled.
  2. GOP Senator says we can’t pass immigration reform because of government spying programs. Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) used the revelations regarding the NSA’s spying programs as his latest excuse for not passing immigration reform.
  3. Republican-appointed federal judge says blacks and Hispanics are “predisposed to crime.” Judge Edith Jones, a member of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, a circuit overseeing a large number of death penalty cases, made her outrageous comments about minorities during a speech earlier this year. The judge, who has a long history of troubling behavior, added that the death penalty is a public service because it’s the only way an inmate can “make peace with God.”
  4. Congressman loses it on the House floor. Rep. Jim Bridenstine (R-OK) lost it during a rant on the House floor during which he accused the president of “dishonesty, incompetence, vengefulness and lack of moral compass [that] lead many to suggest that he is not fit to lead.”
  5. Senator suggests porn is to blame for military sexual assaults. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), most recently known for being the chief opponent of immigration reform, suggested that porn is responsible for the epidemic of sexual assault plaguing the military.
  6. Republican governor schedules costly special election to lower Democratic turnout during the general election. Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) is far head in the polls in his bid for re-election, yet he appears to have scheduled a special election to fill the seat of recently deceased Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) to keep Democratic turnout low the day he and Republican state legislators will be on the ballot. The election will cost $12 MILLION or more and is taking place less than a month before the November general election.
  7. Fox Business refuses to run an ad critical of Fox contributors. After a spate of male Fox contributors made disparaging and sexist comments about female breadwinners, the group UltraViolet sought to run an ad on Fox Business critical of their comments. The network refused to air it.
  8. Anti-Obamacare states pass up billions in funds meant to help the poor get health insurance. The red states that are refusing to expand Medicaid under Obamacare are set to lose out on $8 BILLION in funding, which will cause them to leave an additional 3.6 MILLION Americans uninsured simply out of spite.
  9. Wall Street Journal editorial board member says bike share is a “totalitarian” plot. Dorothy Rabinowitz assailed the newly unveiled bike share plan being rolled out in New York City. She complained that the city’s best neighborhoods were being “begrimed” by the bikes put in place by “totalitarian” Mayor Michael Bloomberg. She also described the “bike lobby” as an “all-powerful enterprise.”
  10. Congressional inquisitor-in-chief goes overboard on CNN. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, has been endlessly pursuing conspiracy theories and alleged Obama administration scandals for years, but he went more overboard than usual this week. During an appearance on CNN, Issa called White House Press Secretary Jay Carney “a paid liar.” Issa’s fellow Republicans reportedly told him to cool it following the incident.

BONUS: A Texas jury acquitted a man for the murder of a woman he hired as an escort, after his lawyers claimed he was authorized to use deadly force because she refused sex.

BBG Communications and BBG Global offices are located in San Diego, CA. They provide a  variety of telecommunication services such as digital lines, high speed Internet, Intranet, public telephony, teleauditor, worldwide long  distance calling, and zero plus calling at credit card only payphone  stations Germany and other countries. BBG Global’s website owns and  operates 350,000 pay phones in airports, train stations, and hotels in  more than 30 countries.

Reports are that the cost of using BBG  Communications has been a problem for quite some time. Now, US troops  have decided to fight back. Americans must join in and demand justice  for all who have been affected; we can do this.

When Specialist  Reynald Matias was heading to Afghanistan with his Army unit late last  year, their chartered flight stopped to refuel at Leipzig-halle Airport  in Germany.During a brief layover, he called his wife in Tacoma,  Wash.,using his debit card on a pay phone in the terminal’s troops-only transit lounge. His wife, Crystal, asked, “What are they charging you?”   He did not know, so she told him to hang up. A few days  later she got   the answer: $51 for what she estimated was a 2minute call. “Military pay  isn’t up there, “she said. “It really hurt us.” Another Soldier,  Sgt.Corder, said he was billed $41 last year for a 3-second call  in which he left a message on the family’s answering machine. The  Sargent’s lawsuit was first written about last fall by Army Times and newspapers in Texas.
It is time for BBG Communications & BBG Global to stop taking  advantage American Soldiers who are already under such stress fighting  in defense of the U.S. Now, their families are subjected to financial  distress; this is completely unacceptable. Complaints from service  members have reached the United States Transportation Command and the  Leipzig airport.

However, press officers state they have no control over the pay phones.
It is time for Americans to Stand with & Speak Up for our Troops, who have taken an oath to support and defend  the U.S. with their lives..

“We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women’s lives,”- Susan G. Komen for the cure

just another rant …

On 1/30/2010, the New S.G. Komen for the cure organization put out a press release stating that they would be halting grants to Planned Parenthood. I read about it on twitter talked to a couple of tweeties and decided to research exactly who supports, pays, and otherwise is all in for the organization. The interesting thing about the  new Susan G. Komen for the cure site is that they do not give adequate information about who is actually running the organization, who handles their media or marketing or that Karen Handel held public office while in GA or that she is a staunch conservative. In addition, upon further research at various sites like wiki, I found that Nancy Brinker, a conservative and sister of Susan Komen worked under the Bush Administration, confirmed the Komen association with Ari Fleisher who was involved in filling the position of Karen Handel. Apparently, the move to halt some funding was in the works for about a year yet it looks like some in upper management decided to stay quiet.

I ask everyone who supports the new Susan G. Komen to question and challenge the organizations new policies and motive in deciding to use Rep.Cliff Stearns investigation to quantify the actions or pressures coming from conservative pro-life groups. I know many of us feel that Woman’s Health Care should not be a political football and that Komen should have remained neutral; provide women’s health care, trust the great people in charge at Planned Parenthood and remember the Hyde amendment but do not throw women under the healthcare bus or over the resource cliff.

This move will undermine the way women and men are able to access safe and affordable health care where there are so few facilities to begin with not to mention the number of health care workers who will be unemployed because the new Komen chose the ideology of so few over the lives of the many. The fact is that the number of early detection and services needed afterwards is beyond the number of women who actually get abortions. It is also important to know that funding for stem cell research is also under fire if not already eliminated.

I was sad and offended to learn how the new Susan Komen organization caved to the pressures of Republican representatives in Congress like Cliff Stearns or conservative groups and their ideology. It appears as if that family values platform is gaining more control over a woman’s right to choose and is indeed a political move that will backfire…

This controversy is not over …it is just the beginning folks

just another rant … but it’s not all mine!

First, a plug for Supporting the Jobs Bill  and then the rant … People need to realize this Jobs bill will help almost 1.9 million people and that is a number that cannot be ignored though Socially Conservative Republicans choose to attack the rights of Women instead Teapublicans continue holding our Democracy hostage near the edge of disaster. It is important that people get the facts which show that President Obama is the best choice for Americans among any Teapublican on that stage claiming they can govern as President of this great Nation… There is not one Teapublican i would trust if that 3am call comes or one that believes in real freedom and or liberty … think about it

Reports are that only 30% of Americans support the President’s JOBs bill until they are given all the details then the support
rises to over 60% support … It is upon all of us who support #theAmericansJOBsAct to spread the word about what is in this bill … Print
out the President’s JOBs bill and pass it out to friends and relatives. It is clear to me that the surrogates to get our Fellow Americans back to work are WE
THE PEOPLE so just do it. It has not been lost on me that the media has proven themselves to be the purveyor of limited information especially if it is positive and gives President Obama a chance of
winning … therefore, read the Bill, copy it and hand it out >> http://www.whitehouse.gov/jobsact/read-the-bill

Below is a comment about concealed weapons by Mayor Michael Nutter and my response … but of course!  ( :

HIM:  educateyourselfbeforeblogging
educateyourselfbeforeblogging.wordpress.com

According to you, “dangerous people, including sex offenders and domestic abusers, could get a permit in one state and then carry hidden, loaded guns nationwide.” Now, read the facts for yourself:

Congress passed the first blanket prohibition on felons carrying guns in the Gun Control Act of 1968, which made it illegal for felons to possess a gun any under circumstances. The Firearm Owners’ Protection Act, passed in 1986, reinforced the ban on felons carrying guns, and also banned people who have been convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year of imprisonment from possessing guns.

Congress later expanded federal gun control laws by passing what is commonly known as the Lautenberg Amendment, which prohibits persons who are subject to protective or restraining orders as a result of domestic violence, or who have been convicted of misdemeanor crimes involving domestic violence. Incidentally, these federal laws not only ban felons from possessing guns, but also from possessing any type or amount of ammunition.

In addition to the long-standing federal prohibition on felons possessing guns, there are also many state laws that limit the ability of a felon to legally carry a gun, some of which even predate the federal law. At one extreme, some states prohibit anyone who has been convicted of a felony, and even of certain misdemeanor crimes involving violence, from ever legally carrying a gun.

ME: First, you assumed i wrote the article, yet the title has
the Mayor’s name on it, did you even bother to read it? NO … don’t be so
willing to be nasty to people unless and until or before you try and convict
folks -try to get the facts … That article was written by Mayor Nutter – It
says … “Listen to Philly’s top Cop Mayor Michael Nutter” …So, write a nasty
letter or whatever to him. FYI – I get information that i share from various newsletters,
email and subscriptions… I post most because I think some are very
informative others are of topics close to me and feel need more PR , i get
Petitions and some articles are meant to produce a dialogue but i find it
interesting that folks feel like they assume this that or the other … don’t . I
get it, you do not agree with what he wrote but it was his opinion as a Mayor.
I have to say your comment was just rude and if you had read it all the way to
the end, you would have seen he signed off with his full name and position.

I do not believe in concealed weapons because i (had) friends and relatives who
were victims of concealed handguns and I will admit i totally want auto-mastic
weapons out of the hands of civilians.

Educateyourselfbeforeblogging … you owe me an apology
