Manny Herrmann, AFL – CIO

From the transit workers who get us where we need to go to the firefighters, teachers and caregivers whose work is so much more than a job—Labor Day season is when we say “thanks.”There are two ways you can say “thanks” to workers this weekend:

  1. Tell us who you heart. I ❤ Wisconsin workers. Who do you ❤? It takes about 15 seconds to let us know who you heart and share it with the world.
  2. Find an event near you. Events are taking place this weekend and beyond. See what’s happening in your area, or add your own event.

America’s working families have had a tough year. But we’ve also shown unprecedented solidarity. Let’s keep that solidarity going this weekend and beyond.

In solidarity,

Manny Herrmann
Online Mobilization Coordinator, AFL-CIO

FYI—if you see a weird symbol in this message, like a box, it’s supposed to be a heart symbol, but for a very small percentage of users, it appears as something else. Click here to take action and find out what our campaign is all about.

Onslaught …

56 Days Until the Election

In politics, Labor Day is traditionally marked as the start of election season. That means today is the first working day of the fall campaign.

This is when your grassroots contributions have the greatest possible impact. The Republicans are pooling their resources for another wave of attack ads — and we must have the resources to counter this onslaught.

My strategists at the DCCC are preparing to launch their first major round of television advertising. We know the Republicans will be running in 9 more districts by Sunday.

The truth is we know when we have the resources to get our message out and turn out the vote — Democrats win. That’s why I need your urgent help to raise $500,000 for our Emergency Rapid Response fund before Friday’s media buy deadline.

Every dollar can mean the difference between victory and defeat on Election Day.

Contribute $5, $10 or more before Midnight Friday to fund critical make-or-break advertising for Democrats.

We simply cannot afford to fall behind just as the fall campaign begins in earnest.

I am more confident than ever that we will retain our Democratic House Majority, so long as we stand together in these final weeks. Our next wave of advertising could help secure Democrats who are being faced with an onslaught of attack ads — but I need your support before Midnight Friday to make it happen. Your gift of $5 could make all the difference.

On this first day of a campaign that will determine whether we choose to move forward or turn back, let us rededicate ourselves to the struggle for progress.

P.S. My strategists at the DCCC are preparing to launch their next round of television advertising. Unless we can raise $500,000 by Friday’s media buy deadline, we may not have all the resources we need for every race until November. Contribute today.

What Are You Doing this Weekend?

Got plans this Labor Day weekend? With all that’s going on in our lives, it’s easy to forget that honoring America’s workers is what Labor Day is all about.

Here are some ideas on how you can celebrate Labor Day:

Watch the AFL-CIO national TV ad during Major League Baseball games Sunday and Monday, the Sunday NASCAR race and college football on Monday night. The ad will remind television viewers and radio listeners that it’s working people working together who will move our country forward.

Tune in to the Sportsman Channel. In partnership with the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance (USA), Sportsman Channel will pay tribute to America’s workers with a continual run of public service announcements over Labor Day weekend featuring Richard Trumka, AFL-CIO president and USA chairman.

Find out which employers are treating their workers well—and what’s going on nationwide and around the world when it comes to workers’ basic freedoms.

Take the next step and become a mobile activist. Get action alerts as part of the AFL-CIO Good Jobs Now team by texting JOBS to 225568.

As AFL-CIO President Trumka says: “Working people working together have always moved our country forward and that’s how we’ll do it again.”

As we celebrate this Labor Day, let’s remember America’s workers built our nation—and America’s workers are what make America strong.

Happy Labor Day from the AFL-CIO!
