Big things … a message from Tim Kaine

On Tuesday night, alongside Democratic supporters in Maryland, I watched President Obama deliver his State of the Union address.

The President rose above the day-to-day politics that we know can slow the gears of change and prevent progress. He focused instead on how we can work together to build an economy that grows not just in the near term, but for generations to come.

This is what real leadership looks like — and this speech set real energy in motion. Now, what matters is what we do to build on that energy.

As the President said, in America, “we do big things.” And we have a big message to send.

In the coming weeks, Democrats will make crucial investments to support the President’s agenda for our country’s future — from ads on the air to conversations on the ground, we’re going to do everything we can to promote his vision for our country.

But we can’t amplify this message without your help.

So if you donate $15 or more today, we’ll send you a free, limited-edition “We do big things” car magnet — allowing you to show your support for the President’s vision in a public way. All around the country, from the sides of minivans to the cabs of tractor trailers, these magnets will provide a simple but important show of solidarity behind the President’s agenda.

Can you donate $15 or more today to help us spread this message far and wide?  http://my.democrats.org/page/m/4052b7e0/51adb20/730ddcbe/74b96b5d/2502616642/VEsH/

For centuries, the State of the Union has provided presidents of the United States with the opportunity to speak directly to Americans — and to galvanize them, as well.

President Obama’s roadmap for our country’s future prescribes renovating our nation’s infrastructure, renewing our education system, and fostering innovation to create the industries that will carry us into the future.

His vision calls for a leaner, more efficient government that is more transparent and accountable to the citizens it serves.

And it drives home the point that, even amid uncertain and challenging circumstances, the future is bright — and ours to win.

But the President needs our support to maximize the impact of his speech. We can transform this inspiring moment into a dynamic force for a better future.

The ball is in our court. We all heard the President’s plan — now, he needs us to get behind it and help make it a reality.

Together, we’ll send the message loud and clear that Democrats across the country are committed to supporting the President’s agenda — please donate $15 or more today and we’ll send you a “We do big things” car magnet to help show your commitment:

AFL-CIO …a message from Manny Herrmann

Oops!
I made a half-baked plan to vote early. But I didn’t follow through. Now I’ve made a real, solid plan to vote on Election Day. Have you made your plan to vote yet?

Sign the 2010 Working Families Voter Pledge. It says: “I won’t forget to vote for working families in 2010—it’s too important!

Hi, I’m Manny Herrmann, the AFL-CIO’s new Online Mobilization Coordinator.

I’m brand new to this job, and I’ve already messed up. I sent an e-mail to our e-activists in Maryland, where I live, urging them to vote early. But I didn’t listen—I actually forgot to vote early myself.

I really meant to vote early this year.
It’s convenient, and it allows you to avoid the crowds. I voted early in the primary, and there was no line at all. It felt great!

But Thursday was the last day of early voting in Maryland. I blew it. By the time I got out of work, the polls had closed. So here’s my new plan: I’ll be voting at 7 a.m. on Election Day, Nov. 2, at East Silver Spring Elementary School, which is walking distance from where I live.

Sign the pledge: “I won’t forget to vote for working families in 2010—it’s too important!

I admit it: Had I remembered that early voting ended yesterday, I would have voted last Saturday when I was in downtown Silver Spring.

Fortunately, it’s no big deal. I can vote on Nov. 2. But if any of us—myself included—forget to vote by Election Day, there are no do-overs.

Sign the 2010 Working Families Voter Pledge.

If I can forget to vote, so can you.
That’s why I’ve pledged not to forget to vote on Nov. 2 and not to let anything get in my way—so I made my specific plan for when and where I’m voting and how I’m getting to the polls.

What’s your plan for getting to the polls? Will you drive? Get a ride? Take public transportation? Are you voting before or after work? What if the lines are long? Do you need child care?

I hope you’ll think through these things and join me in pledging to vote for working families by Nov. 2.

In Solidarity,

Manny Herrmann
Online Mobilization Coordinator, AFL-CIO

TGIF ….&some News

Today our President is making stops in Maryland and Virginia talking about small business, keeping voters stirred up to vote for the Democratic Party on Nov. 2nd and let Americans know that things are getting better. I am biased but if people would just listen be more aware they will start to understand and put the dots together about why the improvement has been a series of starts and stalls for the last 20 months and vote for the Democratic Party to continue the move into the 21st Century.

I was watching CNBC this morning then all of a sudden there were awful reports of various packages and threats of bombs on various fed-ex planes but our security people responsible for keeping us safe seemed to have done exactly what they were suppose to do so i feel safe.

I hope everyone who has checked out the Washington State’s voters guide is getting the info they need to vote wisely and without stress.  It makes me feel great that literally, 100’s of people have taken the time to look through it from here … again, take the time to read the initiatives closely and obviously VOTE for Sen. Patty Murray, she is fighting for all of our best interests!

This morning a guest named Justin appeared on CNBC -an entrepreneur and owner of a business that is going to be hiring new people because his business is doing so well. It all sounded great until  you hear him say some things that seemed quite un-American to me and while he can do what he wants it was a sad awakening to know people will take money(loans/tax credits etc) from the government then turn their backs on them to run right of center for cover. My problem with this guy began when he remarked that while he is going to hire new folks because of the ultimate need, he was thinking about waiting until after the mid-term elections to do so. If that was not bad enough, seemingly on cue or by surprise Mark Haynes asks him if the elections will dictate to when and how many people he will actually hire say the difference between five or so…i paraphrase but Justin’s response is yes. I have to say this was an offensive revelation for me because his reasons did not include being concerned about the possibility of his taxes being raised, how much or how high, but he did imply that getting more right of center folks in Congress definitely being an aspect for wanting to wait. If you are listening, guests like Justin and CNBC talking heads seem to confirm that small business as well as the bigger corporate entities have waged war on this President and have a complicit relationship with the Republican Tea Party. I will admit i did not watch the entire show but what i did see and hear during the Haynes set upset me. Then an older guy came on named Kudlow, who obviously is a right of center talkinghead on CNBC made comments today about how Republicans should ride things out until after the elections which also confirmed for me his right of center TV Activism being done on CNBC. I have to say watching his right of  center activism on tv was actually more offensive than the information coming out of the mouths of the CEO’s he has trotting out on his set on almost a daily basis making comments about how they will continue to outsource to Mexico and China because it is cost efficient for their businesses.  The show was and is obviously offensive and begs the question, has CNBC taken a hard right or were they always right of center and now are providing a platform for small and large businesses acting out against the Obama administration. This show helped confirm the sad Joke still being played on Americans by those who are involved with the market, small and big corporations helping or throwing money …secret money at political campaigns hoping to gain back the ability to go back to deregulate the Banks, Wall Street, AIG types and other right of center entities. The problem becomes clear when we have Republican Politicians stating small and big corporate businesses are the ones we should be depending on because they hire thus they need the Bush tax cut giveaways to continue their ability to hire. The fact is they probably are  hiring it just isn’t their fellow Americans but folks in China and Mexico and if they are saying this now what makes anyone believe it will be any different after Congress goes back to work and legislation regarding Jobs gets on the floor. I have to say while being enlightened, angry, and sad one thing i know for sure is that those Bush tax giveaways for the top 2% need to end ASAP with the focus exclusively on the Middle and Lower classes. We all heard the Republican Tea Party leaders say they have no plans to cooperate and or compromise let alone we all know they do not have any solutions or plans that will get all Americans back on track right. So, tt is also important to ask yourself before voting: what happened to our democracy when clearly the near collapse of our economy was a non-partisan event and while Americans needed Congress on both sides of the aisle to work together the Republican Tea Party has had tunnel vision for 2o months ignoring, forgetting nor caring that their job is to do the peoples business … that should be enough for anyone to vote against the Republican Tea Party –
