hell no!

Social Security cuts are coming for “virtually every American alive and those yet to be born.”1

And for what? Corporate tax cuts.2

Seriously: the co-chairs of President Obama’s deficit commission want to cut Social Security benefits for everyone making more than $25,000 a year. And then lower corporate taxes to just 26%.

Every member of this commission, every member of Congress, and President Obama himself must reject these insane ideas. We’re starting an emergency petition to President Obama and his Catfood Commission to take Social Security cuts off the table.

Sign our petition to President Obama and his Catfood Commission: hands off Social Security. Click here to add your name:

The proposed cuts to Social Security are so deep, for so many people. This is a direct attack on America’s middle class for the benefit of Corporate America.

These ideas are so awful, sixteen other members of the Catfood Commission didn’t want to touch it.3 Problem is, this is the “starting point” for discussions. This will be negotiated, and many of these awful ideas could be in the final proposal. We need to stop it now.

It’s bad enough to even think about cutting Social Security – but to do it to pay for corporate tax cuts? That’s insane.

This is President Obama’s commission, and he has the power to shut it down. The other commission members can put their feet down and say no to Social Security cuts. Let’s make them do it.

Say “Hell No” to Social Security cuts. Click here to sign the petition.

Thanks for all you do to protect Social Security.

Help end the Bush tax cuts for millionaires

Hi,

Click here to tell Democrats in Congress:

“Stand with President Obama: Don’t let Republicans hold middle class tax cuts hostage.”

Sign the petition

The Republicans are holding middle-class tax cuts hostage because they want to extend the Bush tax giveaways for millionaires. And some Democrats are even agreeing with them!

President Obama has made clear he won’t compromise on this. But with votes coming up in just a few weeks we need to make sure Democrats to the right thing. I just signed a petition telling Democrats to stand with Obama. Can you join me at this link?

Holding Working Families Hostage

Stand Up for Working Families

Take Action

Your Members of Congress need to hear that you want them to stand up for working families, not millionaires.

Take Action

Do you know what makes me mad?

Some Members of Congress are pushing for tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans while holding hostage measures to help working families.

Yes, it’s true. As early as next week, the Senate could decide what to do about tax cuts that expire at the end of this year. President Obama proposes to extend tax cuts for the middle class and lower-income working families, while allowing the provisions of the Bush-era tax cuts that only benefit the wealthiest two percent of households to expire on schedule. But some Senators insist on holding tax cuts for the middle class hostage to tax breaks for millionaires — at a cost of over $700 billion over the next ten years. And, adding insult to injury, they would allow tax cuts designed to help struggling families to expire.

We need your help. Can you join the National Call-in Day Today, September 16, and call Congress right now?

Your Members of Congress need to hear that you want them to stand up for working families, not millionaires. Tell them to pass tax cuts for the middle class and working families, and let the tax cuts for the wealthiest two percent expire on schedule. Tell them we need the $700 billion we’d save to create jobs, protect essential services, and begin to bring the deficit under control.

The only way we can succeed is by flooding Congress with calls. Please click here to call Congress — and then forward this e-mail to everyone you know and tell them to call, too.

Thank you for your continued support.

P.S. Every call makes a difference. Someone needs to stand up for the little gal (and guy). Please take a few minutes to call Congress today.

Dick Cheney’s Tax Cut

Nine years ago, George W. Bush and Dick Cheney gave the wealthiest Americans an unneeded tax cut.

To this day, America‘s top income-earners — households making more than $250,000 a year — aren’t paying their fair share in taxes. Letting these tax cuts for the wealthy continue for another decade would saddle middle class Americans, our kids, and our grandkids with an additional $680 billion of debt, largely payable to the Chinese government.1

The Bush-Cheney tax cuts for the wealthy are wrong. Thankfully they’re set to expire this December, unless Republicans in Congress get their way and renew them indefinitely.

With debate set to begin on the Senate floor as early as next week, we don’t have a lot of time to get this right.

Sign my joint petition with Democracy for America urging Congress to let the Bush-Cheney tax cuts for the wealthy expire this year.

Republicans in Congress think we ought to make the Bush-Cheney tax cuts for the wealthy permanent. And they’re using right-wing media to spread deception and bully Democrats facing tough re-election bids into joining their cause.

These elected officials need to know that you — and 69% of Americans recently polled — want the Bush-Cheney tax cuts for the wealthy to expire this year.

There’s a broad and growing consensus that it’s time for the wealthiest among us to pay their fair share in taxes.

Most economists agree, too: It just doesn’t make sense to give each of the 120,000 wealthiest Americans what amounts to, on average, a $3 million tax break over the next decade.2

Sign my joint petition with Democracy for America to end the Bush-Cheney tax cuts for the wealthy.

Some Republicans hope to take back Congress this November by telling Americans that Democrats want to “raise taxes on the middle class” and “hurt small businesses.” Of course these smears don’t contain a shred of truth, but that doesn’t matter.

If the right wing wants to score political points by taking money from our kids and grandkids, and handing it out to the wealthiest Americans, it’s up to us to stop them.

Please, sign our petition today. Copies of the petition signatures will be delivered to each member of Congress ahead of the first key vote.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

-Patrick
