It’s been a month since Congress came to its senses and ended the unnecessary federal government shutdown that turned families’ lives upside down and cost our economy millions of lost days of work.Now it’s time for our lawmakers to – finally – get down to business, and we can make them do it.As part of the October budget deal that re-opened the federal government, Congress established a joint House-Senate budget committee to find a path forward. The committee is meeting now, and their report is due to the House and Senate by December 13. That gives lawmakers just one month to consider the recommendations of the committee and pass a budget before the short-term continuing resolution expires on January 15, 2014. December and January might sound far away, but the committee is meeting now and making decisions about the programs we care about now. One decision they should make is to get rid of the misguided across-the-board spending cuts known as sequestration, which began in March. The effects of sequestration have been painful so far, and they will only get worse over time. Congress must support a transparent appropriations process that ends sequestration once and for all. Want to make sure low-income women, infants, and children have access to the food they need? Want to protect access to services for domestic violence survivors? Want to stand up for quality public education and safe school climates Then we need to contact our senators today and urge them to pass a budget that ends sequestration once and for all. Congress should resist calls to enact “flexibility” or exempt defense spending when it comes to sequestration. Congress must end sequestration, period. The AAUW Action Fund Lobby Corps delivered this message to senators this morning, and now it’s time for you to drive it home. Please, take two minutes to urge your senators to support a transparent appropriations process that ends sequestration! |

And at the top of the legislative agenda is comprehensive immigration reform. The Senate passed a bill this summer (more than 100 days ago now), but so far the House has failed to move it forward. We’re the ones who can help change that — OFA is doubling down on its immigration reform effort, and we want to show members of Congress exactly what they’re up against. My name is Luz Maria Hernandez. I am 75 years old. I am a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. It was my granddaughter who urged me to get involved in the immigration reform movement — and together, on September 12, we were arrested in Washington to demand Congress pass reform with a path to citizenship.
I was not afraid of facing arrest, because I face a much more real and desperate fear: missing out on the lives of my children. Although I’ve obtained my residency, my children have been waiting in Mexico for years to have their visas approved so that we might be reunited. Immigration reform is not about border security or jobs or “getting in a line” — it is about families who have been separated by deportations, or live each day dreading that, like me, they will be separated from their loved ones for years.

The act and meaning of com * pro * mise
It’s definitely a morning and a day to reach to the sky breathe in deeply through the nose release your breath slowly as you lower your arms and upper body ~~ release your breath through your mouth and repeat; probably more and more as the news and day wears on.
just another rant …
My word for the day is Compromise.
Com-pro-mise, considered a noun and a verb, is by definition : a settlement of differences by mutual concessions; an agreement reached by adjustment of conflicting or opposing claims, principles, etc., by reciprocal modification of demands.(noun) or to expose or make vulnerable to danger, suspicion, scandal, etc.; jeopardize: a military oversight that compromised the nation’s defenses. (Verb) It is definitely clear that Republicans have made a choice to define compromise as a verb while the Democratic Party and the President have gone toward the light of transparency and genuine willingness to compromise.
Yet, as The President has another win under his belt, a 2nd term some feel the efforts to reform any and all parts of our government just have not gone far enough and have waged a hostage taking. If Republicans could put the 47% in a bathtub, they would be smiling a whole lot more than they are currently. Imagine, folks who ran for a position with the government only to wage nasty acts on the government and now our economy… uh, don’t Republicans love to talk about our forefathers our constitution …blah blah blah , yet they think we could use a lot less government … oh, unless of course it’s their salaries… right/
We all know it will take the act of com ~pro – mise to get America back on track though we heard Speaker Boehner say … he rejects the word!

The fact is most civilians know and live the act of compromise, hey, it is a part of our lives, but apparently, not all of us practice it. In most cases, members of Congress hope feel or say everything will balance itself out and then realize the dirty little secret is that money still talks and ultimately controls the votes. I want to know… who has the will, courage and power, which, the Democratic Party has but seems to fear. The Democratic Party of Yes We Can had only a short time to wield the power needed to make Health-Care, Wall Street/Bank/Aig, Climate Change, and Immigration Reform Bills stronger. While Republicans need to understand that after four plus years of voters watching them filibuster the economy our rights and our democracy is in more trouble than ever before.
We the People need to demand the GOP stop holding Americans hostage and work for the greater good of their fellow Americans
