Update about Support Fair Investigations of Police Officers’ on Change.org

Michael Bell Team : Plea for a Change

Change in the institution of law enforcement is difficult however,  50,000 of us are willing to bet it isn’t as difficult as losing a child and being barred, ridiculed and threatened for seeking an unbiased investigation and review of the death of that child.

What kind of parent wouldn’t want all stones turned?

What kind of leader would keep a parent from that information?

Anyone who claims unbiased investigations and sobriety tests make the tough job of officers even tougher should consider this:  An intoxicated or mentally unsound or dishonest officer makes a tough job, deadly.

Nothing chips away at the honor of the police profession than negligent oversight.  AB409 would protect the honor of the police profession in an honest way.

Please help us continue to get this petition before people.   AB409 makes sense.

Thank you so much and Happy New Year!

freedom paved with struggle

The World is watching … a repost

World

While the fight for Democracy breaks out all over the World, we are seeing the marches the violence against protesters who have had enough. We also see a World in transition, a few men, dictators who want to hold tight onto their empires ruling regardless of how many of their own call for Sovereignty while others want  21st Century living are killed.  Now, we have to include Governors, Mayors and Police Officers using excessive force who are supposedly hired take an oath to serve and protect.  However, there seems to be a growing movement of citizens who have begun to question and challenge dictators and clerics who have ruled with iron fists and have engaged in outdated ancient practices for centuries. Who knew Americans would need to question leaders of cities states and counties or be enduring policing that appeared in the days before people of color were legally given civil/humane rights.  It is important that the people never forget American history and to always remember there is strength in numbers.

Always remember strength in numbers

It is so hard to understand, believe, accept, or fathom that we are in the 21st Century, yet, there are people on the Continent of Africa dying at the hands of their own … in the what is called the Arab World for wanting to be heard, for wanting to be participants in their own futures and yes, this is not new. There are mothers with children, older men women and students coming out in droves protesting to tell these dictators/clerics it is time for a change. In a desperate move to control the truth, dictators have tried to cut off all connections to the outside world or insist and expect them to believe that the U.S. is at fault, meddling in the process of change, which they claim should happen slowly. When Protesters did not leave, most if not all these tyrants offered up some concessions to the people like crumbs while trying to divert responsibility until their patience ran out; replaced with tantrums, threats, crackdown, using extreme force, and death to those who refuse to obey. It is my hope that while the people rise up against these despots and we watch in horror, they know the efforts will help the next generation though the backlash seems hardly worth the effort in the moment. I wonder if anyone has had or even allowed himself or herself a chance to stop and consider what personal freedom would mean for them and their families. If they feel they deserve to be happy let alone an opportunity, a change from the old ancient ways to a life with the freedom to speak, better wages, human rights, to actually be a participant in the process of life. Then stop to think of how we Americans have issues with our leaders use the 1st Amendment and realize that the militarization of our police departments are quite possibly taught in the realization that our country is becoming more brown …that brown and black men are the enemy at large while we had the first person of colour in the White House the fear or fear mongering reached ugly levels …

We all know that the demand to be heard these days is great and how amazing it is to see people on two different continents with similar reactions by those who control, who truly are working for an agenda that is one of great self-interest. This seemingly symbiotic thing going on, though we are worlds apart is one that must be met without fear of evil to get the change needed and wanted. The big difference is … for them it means that any action toward independence or right to speak is not only a risk to life and family but the fear of authority may not be an option in many cases knowing the inevitability of death, for Americans, freedom to be is or used to be the possibility of death, though the last few cases of men and women of color dying by the use of extreme force has caused great concern

The journey toward freedom is sometimes paved with danger

Whales killed by US Navy sonar–please help!

I’m Lyndia Storey, a MoveOn member in Felton, California, and I started a petition to President Barack Obama, which says:

Click here to join her new campaign.

President Obama: Navy sonar exercises are killing whales again! More whales died this spring during joint exercises involving the U.S. Navy off the coast of Crete. As commander in chief, you have the power to stop this deadly assault on whales WITH THE STROKE OF YOUR PEN. We demand that you immediately sign an executive order directing the Secretary of the Navy to halt sonar trainings in whale habitats around the world!

The Navy said it couldn’t happen again, but now U.S. Navy sonar exercises in Crete have driven whales onto the beaches to die, once again.

In April, whales mass-stranded and died during a U.S. Navy exercise offshore of Crete—the fourth time that sonar trainings have caused catastrophic strandings in these same waters.

Now the autopsy results are in, showing hemorrhaging of internal organs, bleeding from the ears, and other signs of decompression sickness, and the cause of this crime is clear: Navy sonar. OUR Navy.

Enough is enough. The killing must stop. Right now!

Together we can demand that President Obama end the Navy’s war on whales and dolphins!

As commander in chief, the president has direct command over the Army and the Navy. He is constitutionally charged with taking care that the laws are faithfully executed. The killing of innocent whales and dolphins—whether in domestic or foreign waters—is a flagrant violation of the Marine Mammal Protection Act and other federal laws. The Navy is not above the law. These crimes violate every code of human decency and must be stopped.

With the single stroke of his pen, President Obama can order the Secretary of the Navy to cease sonar trainings in whale and dolphin habitats.

Please join me in demanding that the president sign an executive order halting sonar trainings in marine mammal habitats.

The president has direct authority over the National Marine Fisheries Service, the federal agency charged with enforcing our marine mammal protection laws. With one phone call, the president can order the head of Fisheries to require the Navy to conduct Environmental Impact Statements on all its training ranges, both domestic and international.

It’s too late to save the whales who died during the U.S. Navy war games in Crete. But if you and I cry out for justice, we can compel the president to act. Together, we have the power to end the U.S. Navy’s war on whales and dolphins.

If you will join me now and sign this petition to President Obama, I promise to personally deliver a printout of the petition and signatures to the gates of the White House.

Click here to add your name to the petition, and then pass it along to your friends who care about whales and our oceans.

With heartfelt thanks,

–Lyndia

Campaign Update: PepsiCo and Conflict Palm Oil

Live_For_Now__Destroying_Tomorrow_sm.jpg

On May 20, thousands of us united in a Global Day of Action to tell PepsiCo to eliminate Conflict Palm Oil. PepsiCo responded by announcing a Forestry Stewardship Policy and Palm Oil Commitment, but neither of these new promises are strong enough to guarantee that Pepsi’s use of palm oil is not driving rainforest destruction, species extinction and human and labor rights abuses.

PepsiCo is the largest globally distributed snack food company in the world – the company uses enough palm oil every single year to fill Pepsi cans that would stretch around the Earth 4 times – but it has fallen out of step with its peers and still has no truly responsible palm oil purchasing policy.

This has to change — and with your help it will. Are you with us

Instead of cutting Conflict Palm Oil from its products, PepsiCo continues to push its darkly ironic #LiveForNow campaign. PepsiCo is telling people not to worry about climate change, the fate of the last wild orangutans and children that are forced to work in slave-like conditions on oil palm plantations and just #LiveForNow!

It’s our job to tell PepsiCo that #LiveForNow isn’t good enough. This summer we’re turning up the heat.

PepsiCo is pushing its #LiveForNow propaganda out through it’s “Real Big Summer” marketing campaign which includes Pepsi sponsored concerts and events across the US. We need YOU to crash Pepsi-sponsored events and deliver the message that #LiveForNow shouldn’t mean rainforest destruction, climate change and human rights abuses. As activists on the ground crash PepsiCo events around the country, online activists will amplify their voices across the world using social media to disrupt PepsiCo’s marketing efforts and drive home the point that thousands of us stand together in our call for an end to Conflict Palm Oil.

Will you join us?

Here’s how: Sign up to let us know you’re in. We’ll give you a call and support you every step of the way. We’ll let you know where and when you can take action, provide you with placards to chose from, and invite you to one of our trainings so you can become an expert in using social media to campaign for change.

Because of you PepsiCo has made some progress. With your help we’ll convince the global snack food giant to go further to guarantee that its products – like Quaker Oats and Frito Lay Chips – will be free of Conflict Palm Oil for good.

Let’s turn up the heat!
