I really want you to see our newest ad:

Government should be of the people, by the people, and for the people.

But under Rick Scott, it’s been government of the special interests, by the big corporations, and for the powerful.

Time for a change.

Ditch Mitch

a repostemilylistChildren’s health coverage? Nope.

Fair pay for women?  Absolutely not.
Unemployment benefits for struggling families? No way.
Expanding protections against domestic violence and sexual assault? Not a chance.
We can likely kiss those things goodbye if Mitch McConnell heads back to the Senate in November. I mean come on. It’s 2014 and thanks to anti-choice extremists like McConnell, we still have to have these conversations. I say it’s time to Ditch Mitch.
Donate to the “Ditch Mitch” fund right now and help Alison kick him out of the Senate in November!
Thinking about McConnell and his egregious agenda really gets my blood boiling. It takes a special kind of horrible to not support the Violence Against Women Act and lie about it.
EMILY’s List has just the candidate to help ditch him — Alison Lundergan Grimes. Alison agrees that nearly 30 years in the Senate is enough for the ruthless, hyperpartisan McConnell. She’d bring a track record of success in empowering military voters, a pro-family attitude, and a strong advocacy for equal pay to Washington. Seriously — she’s just the woman to Ditch Mitch.
Are you with me? Let’s do this.

Caution: Some Over-the-Counter Medicines May Affect Your Driving

Anyone who operates a vehicle of any type—car, bus, train, plane, or boat—needs to know there are over-the-counter medicines that can make you drowsy and can affect your ability to drive and operate machinery safely.Over-the-counter medicines are also known as OTC or nonprescription medicines. All these terms mean the same thing: medicines that you can buy without a prescription from a healthcare professional. Each OTC medicine has a Drug Facts label to guide you in your choices and to help keep you safe. OTC medicines are serious medicines and their risks can increase if you don’t choose them carefully and use them exactly as directed on the label.

Don’t let the EPA underestimate clean energy

The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) proposed rule to reduce global warming emissions from power plants is our best opportunity to address climate change—but it’s not strong enough. The agency is not sufficiently accounting for the rapid expansion of solar, wind, and other renewable energy. New UCS analysis is helping state decision makers and the EPA understand that this technology is expanding rapidly and is increasingly affordable across the country. Help us ensure carbon-free energy plays a critical role in reducing our country’s global warming emissions. —Karla

Solar power as cheap as local electricity?
UCS’s recent analysis shows that solar power is as cheap as the grid power in 10 states and will be in more than half of states within 1-3 years! Our analysis is already helping to beat back misinformation and build support for solar projects across the country. UCS experts exposed the errors in a recent Economist piece and our staff have been busy using the report to help demonstrate the environmental and public health benefits of solar power to communities considering large solar projects. “It would be a lot easier to transition to renewable energy if we had better storage technology. Is there any energy storage technology on the horizon that is likely to succeed?”—H. Bryant, Dandridge, TN.

There are many types of storage technologies in use today—rechargeable batteries, compressed air stored in underground caverns, heat stored in water or molten salts—and most of these technologies can respond within seconds to meet electricity demands. But it’s also important to keep in mind that there are several viable strategies besides storage that can make the electric grid more flexible and enable it to handle more renewable energy.
