The social issues debate re-ignited on Capitol Hill today when senators killed a proposal to throw out President Obama’s contraception mandate. Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh was thrust into the center of the debate after he called the woman who was denied the right to speak on the controversial all-male conception panel at a hearing last month a “slut” on his show Wednesday. The issue heated up more today when Limbaugh took his comments even further. For more on this story, click here: http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/03/rush-limbaugh-sandra-fluke-a-slu…

Will the real Mitt Romney please stand up? In honor of Super Tuesday, you can now play Mitt ‘N Match and watch Mitt change his positions on equality issues more often than he changes clothes! He used to support open military service. Now he doesn’t. He used to support fairness in the workplace. Now he doesn’t. He used to support domestic partnerships. Now he doesn’t. Mitt ‘N Match is the gift that keeps on giving… the truth about this presidential candidate’s LGBT politics. With no core convictions or guiding principles to get in the way, there’s nothing stopping you from giving Mitt a brand new look – with new policy stances to match. Mitt can become whatever you and his big money, right-wing donors want him to be. Take Mitt’s pledge to fight for a constitutional ban on marriage equality – there’s an outfit for that. What about Mitt’s support for the hate-driven Defense of Marriage Act or his opposition to ending workplace discrimination? Just dress him up! Mitt Romney is a complex guy with too many positions to count. But no matter what anti-LGBT rhetoric he’s spouting, just remember… always dress to impress! Enjoy, The HRC Team |

Within the last few weeks, the governors of Washington and Maryland signed into law bills giving legal recognition to same-sex marriages, and a federal district court judge ruled that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) violates the Constitution’s equal protections clause.
If ever we had the momentum on our side to once and for all repeal the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act it’s now.
Tell Congress it’s time to Dump DOMA now.
As more and more Americans live in states where marriage equality is the law, it’s important to underscore the sharp reality that as long as those same-sex married couples are being denied federal recognition, they are still shut out from hundreds of rights and benefits that other married couples enjoy.
PFAW launched our Dump DOMA campaign in December of 2008, and since then, it’s been joined by nearly 165,000 people and there are bills in both the House and the Senate to repeal the law that prevents even those same-sex couples in states with marriage equality from truly enjoying the rights, responsibilities and recognition that they and their relationships deserve.
Please make sure you are on board at DumpDOMA.org.
The Respect for Marriage Act, which would repeal DOMA, has passed the Senate Judiciary Committee, thanks to the energetic support of Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and others. Representative Jerrold Nadler‘s (D-NY) companion bill has bipartisan support in the House and the Obama administration supports repealing the law.
We need to keep the pressure on Congress now more than ever.
Please add your name to the petition now and then help spread the word.
Thank you for your committed activism on behalf of fairness and equality — the American Way.
Sincerely,
Michael Keegan, President
Black people need to make Wall Street and Big Banks stand up and take notice. The Black dollar is a powerful tool, but in order to wield that power Black people must invest it strategically.
Putting money in large corporate banks with no investment in the Black community or any community is not the way to wield that power.
