Help me save my children from Boko Haram

My name is Nkechinyere Jonathan. I’m 45 years-old, from Nigeria and mother to three children. In 2013 I was an English teacher in a city in the north of my country when the terrorist group Boko Haram arrived, terrorizing my community with violence and closing schools. They kidnapped our students and I never saw them again – and neither have I seen my children since that horrible time.

Boko Haram wanted to impose new rules but I did not agree with their violence or the way they prohibited girls from going to school. So I began giving classes within a church in my city, and for that received several death threats – so much that I was terrified to walk in the streets. Out of my group of 15 teachers, 10 were killed and 5 escaped our town.

Sign my petition to help me get my children back.

In order to survive, I too had to escape Nigeria and leave my children behind. I knew that my daughter was in the most danger, so I left her in the care of my sister in a small village away from Boko Haram. Mine was a long journey, but in July of 2014 I arrived in São Paulo, Brazil, with my passport and visa. I applied for asylum from the Brazilian government, but over two years later still have not received the documents I need in order to bring my children over.

I need your your help. Join me in asking the Brazilian government to recognize me as a refugee so that I can bring my family over to Brazil, safe from Boko Haram.

One month ago, my son Victor was victim of a bomb attack in Lagos, the capital of Nigeria. When I found out, I felt so desperate – without the proper documents, I can’t do anything to protect my children. Victor survived the attack but with massive burns on his legs.

For my children’s safety, I’m asking Brazilian authorities to give me asylum so I can bring my children to live by my side in peace and safety in Brazil.

Trump-sized temper tantrum

Well, that was a doozy. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump went head to head last night, and the results were especially ugly for Trump — he tried to backtrack on his taxes, lied about crime rates, and made numerous sexist remarks.
Trump wasn’t alone in his factual screw-ups — Clinton made several inaccurate comments last night about Iran, among other things. Both candidates also failed to call out the racist and Islamophobic nature of the no-fly list, which disproportionately targets Muslims.
Watch: Clinton gets under Trump’s skin.

Stop the Auctioning of Wayne National Forest for Oil

It started with the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL). We have proven that through peaceful protest, we can fight back against fracking, which can destroy wildlife, poison water sources, and even push forward climate change. Even so, companies silently continue to push fracking in other areas, Even a national forest.

Wayne National Forest is located in Southeastern Ohio. Among rare plants and abundant wildlife, a large portion of the Wayne runs along the Ohio River, which supplies drinking water to over 5 million people. This forest is still in danger of fracking, however. The United States Bureau of Land Management is holding an auction to lease off 1,600 acres of the forest with special interest to oil companies. These companies will drill wells, extract oil, and leave once the lease is up. But that is still enough time to leak into the Ohio River, poisoning millions of people, just like the DAPL risked.

We cannot let this auction move forward. We, a group of Ohioans, are going to present the BLM with 33 files of protest, one for each parcel of land being auctioned, no later than November 14th, 2016. Our goal with this petition is to express the gravity of this situation in order to avoid a large-scale protest similar to the DAPL Protests. We cannot risk the rare plants, wildlife, or quality of water for even more fracking.
