GREATAGAIN.GOV Donald Trump is the President-Elect

Donald Trump is the President-Elect so it’s transition time. The Trump team’s transition website, is sticking with the theme of “great again”—though with little description of whom his plans would be great for.
Trump has also started to build his administration staff. You may have heard some pretty terrifying names as possibilities for the government’s top positions, like the fresh faces of Rudy Giuliani as Attorney General, Newt Gingrich for Secretary of State, Ben Carson for Education Secretary. But unfortunately, it looks like the other candidates, whose names you may not recognize are just as concerning as those you do. Here are some of the big positions and the candidates we’ll be watching:
  • Attorney General: In addition to Giuliani, Pam Bondi has been suggested as a candidate for head of the Department of Justice. Bondi is Florida’s Attorney General, who declined to sue Trump over his Trump University scam days before a committee associated with Bondi’s campaign was given a $25,000 check from Trump himself.
  • Treasury Secretary: Trump is allegedly considering Jamie Dimon, the head of one of the biggest banks on Wall Street, for the Treasury Secretary. This is particularly worrisome since Trump has promised to roll back Dodd Frank, which is the economic safeguard enacted to prevent some of the risky financial behavior that led to the Great Recession. With a Wall Street head honcho in possibly charge of Treasury and Trump’s reckless economic plans, the economy could be vulnerable to another financial crisis.
  • Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement: Not only does Trump want to roll back President Obama’s immigration executive actions, leaving millions of DACA recipients vulnerable to deportation, he’s floated the idea of appointing ex-Sherriff Joe Arpaio as the director of the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agency. Arpaio, who received a clear mandate from Arizonans when he lost his reelection attempt on Tuesday, has a history of racism. He has racially profiled Latinos, arrested children, and joked that his Tent City was a “concentration camp.”
  • Administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency: Trump is a climate denier and it looks like he’s going to appoint a climate denier to run the Environmental Protection Agency transition: Myron Ebell. Ebell, who thinks climate change is “nothing to worry about,” runs the Cooler Heads Coalition, which seeks to “question global warming alarmism and oppose energy rationing policies.” He opposes the Clean Power Plan and the landmark Paris agreement. He also openly admits he is “not a climate scientist,” which is pretty evident since 97 percent of actual climate scientist say global warming is real and human activity is the main driving force.
