FERC rejected Trump’s Dirty Power Plan

FERC blocked the Trump administration’s Dirty Power Plan to bail out coal.

We spoke out and it worked.

This week, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) unanimously rejected Energy Secretary Rick Perry’s proposal to bail out old, expensive coal power plants at the expense of the climate and our health.

Thanks to the thousands of people who submitted public comments, the Trump administration’s Dirty Power Plan took a major hit.

Share our victory and spread the word that we stopped Trump’s Dirty Power Plan in its tracks.

This important victory proves that together we have power. We demonstrated that a single voice can multiply into a movement.

Despite this win, our fight is not over. At every opportunity, the Trump administration will side with corporate polluters over the the health and well-being of the American people. But this week, our voices prevailed.

Act now: Share our graphic on social media and keep up the fight for a cleaner, healthier future.

Life-saving cancer drug ~ Change.org

CEO of Johnson and Johnson: Lower the price for life-saving cancer drug IMBRUVICA

My name is Beth. My mom is fighting a rare cancer that requires her to take a drug called Imbruvica. The drug is highly effective – and extremely expensive. A year’s treatment can cost over $130,000. That’s why I started this petition to demand that Johnson and Johnson (JNJ) stop price-gouging patients who rely on Imbruvica to live.

Upon gaining FDA approval, JNJ raised the price for Imbruvica to over $90 per pill. In the years since, they’ve reported that sales of Imbruvica have soared. Yearly sales of the drug are projected to reach $7.5 billion by 2022. Those are great numbers for Wall Street investors – not so great for patients struggling to pay for the drug to fight their blood cancers.

Critics say the price hikes are happening because companies like Johnson and Johnson hope to rake in the profits before Congress or some regulatory body takes action to stop them.Until then, patients across the U.S. will continue to be taken advantage of by corporations that appear to care nothing for people and only for profit.

We need to stand up and speak out for patients whose lives are at stake.

Please sign and share this petition calling on Johnson and Johnson to immediately lower the price of Imbruvica to match the lowest global market price. It is unconscionable to allow them to continue doing otherwise.

[One Question Survey] Are you concerned about nuclear war?

VoteVets

Today 1/16/2017 at 1pm, the Center for Disease Control was scheduled to host a preparedness meeting called “Public Health Response to a Nuclear Detonation.”

It was canceled at the last moment, but it’s not just the CDC preparing for war. A New York Times headline last weekend declared “Military Quietly Prepares for a Last Resort: War With North Korea.” And emergency management officials across the nation have already started taking steps in case the worst comes to pass.

At VoteVets, we have already started identifying a large number of Korean War veterans ready to speak out. And they will. But what we want to know today from you is this:

a climate change message from Ed Markey ~ Massachusetts

Despite the overwhelming scientific consensus, EPA chief Scott Pruitt believes that the human impact on climate change is “subject to continuing debate.”

Well here are a few things that are not subject to continuing debate.

Such as Pruitt’s fascination with costly air travel at taxpayer expense when far cheaper alternatives are available.

One of which was a $40,000 first-class flight to Morocco in order to advocate on behalf of an export he has no jurisdiction over in his current capacity.

He spent $25,000 on a sound proof telephone booth that looks like it belongs in a 1980’s spy movie for his office so he can have secure conversations.

Such a facility already exists at the EPA — he wanted a personal one.

This behavior and spending is careless at best and reckless at worst. Add your name if you’re opposed to Pruitt’s wasteful and suspect spending.

Alliance for Gun Responsibility

Alliance for Gun Responsibility

Monday marks our first hearing day of the 2018 legislative session, and right off the bat, the Senate Law & Justice Committee will be meeting to hear bills related to gun violence prevention and safety.

From Dangerous Access Prevention to Enhanced Assault Weapon Background Checks, the potential topics for this inaugural meeting are at the top of the Alliance’s agenda. But we need your help to make their passage a reality. Please, click here to be connected with your legislators’ offices and tell them that Washingtonians demand that the legislature pass these bills.

  • Enhanced Assault Weapon Background Checks that would require Washingtonians to be 21 before purchasing an assault weapon and would mandate annual background check renewal.
  • Dangerous Access Prevention that would incentivize safe storage, creating criminal liability if a child uses an unsafely stored firearm to harm themselves or others.
  • Restoration of Local Authority so local governments can build on statewide gun responsibility laws by taking additional steps to protect families and communities.

We can’t make this agenda a reality without you, Carmen. Your legislators need to hear from you right now that gun violence prevention must be a priority this session. Will you take a moment to call your legislators and make sure they hear from their constituents, not the gun lobby?

Click here to be connected to your legislators’ offices – it will only take a moment!

This year, more than any other in recent memory, we have a real chance to move forward with life-saving legislation. But we need your voice in this fight – legislators need to know that you’re watching their votes, that you’re holding them accountable and that you care deeply about gun violence prevention.

Every voice, every call, every moment matters. Please take just a brief moment to reach out to your legislators today.

Thank you for taking the time to help us end the gun violence crisis.
