The weekend &News wrap up …

Sunday had a lot of us waking up to news that not only has Jose Lima died today at 37, our hearts and condolences are with his family;  the BP dump is getting worse our Marshes and Wetlands affected and that the people, the politicians and everyone in between are starting to freak out which means they are now  turning on the federal Government, President Obama; stating it’s not doing enough.  The truth of the matter is this Oil event, leak, dump ..hasn’t happened on a scale such as this and it’s obvious no one truthfully knows what to do about it. There is no equipment, no procedure, nothing even close was in the possession of BP, Halliburton or TransOcean ; so the yelling and screaming at the President seems to be because they don’t know who else to yell at. The reality is that all these years …up til now anyone who wanted, voted and implemented oil drilling were doing the same thing Wall Street did … bet on the averages … up til now they were winning against the odds but again reality and the odds have run out.

The best suggestion would be to stop pointing fingers!!!! and start getting letting people who have been in the business of oil spill clean up a chance to make a difference.

The machine that Kevin Costner has is at least another opportunity to do something anything to help; apparently BP is only letting Costner test his machine …it is curious that there is a serious amount of things that can be used done and these guys seem to be turning them all down; example …there is a huge amount of solution on a Texas pier just waiting to be used supposedly less toxic and will take care of the oil but BP has not responded to them, Matter of Trust thought they had a potential partnership with BP to place and use a more organic boom(s) anywhere they need but someone said there was a mis-communication and while the three companies(BP,Halliburton,TransOcean) sit back and evaluate and grant other opportunities of help; the oil keeps on flowing into places that may not be able to renew have regrowth and it’s beyond me not to use implement just about anything that can help … including unconventional things.

And in other political news …the votes are in and a Republican won in Hawaii…though it was a special election … His win is only Temporary …he only will be serving for the rest of 2010; thank goodness … come November those that voted for either of the 2 Democrats will be combined into one big win.

In a year when Primaries,  Special and Mid-Term Elections have either happened and or are just heating up; the  whole Rand Paul pull back from his comments regarding Civil Rights, Racism or his comments about Public  vs Private policies are not only too late but won’t be forgotten . It is obvious Rand Paul has felt this way for years and now  is  feeling the heat and trying to save his campaign.

It’s Saturday, and first of all … gotta say Mrs O hair looked great all curly … well, Mrs. O always looks great; watch the video of  her new Chief fall but you know what … she got it under control …she looks great too in coral and she popped up with grace …

Today, The President was at the West Point Academy honoring graduating cadets We ended the Week with so much more than the last guy gave to We the People and he isn’t done yet, this list is only after 2 years … Equal Pay, lily Ledbetter law, steps that headed off a depression,  Health-Care Reform, Financial Reform the biggest overhaul since the 30′s; He also announced and  signed a Fuel efficiency Plan.

We also learned this week that the Texas Board of Education is trying to re-write History.   It should offend us all beyond belief; they want to change the word slavery to trading, they are going to drop people from our History books and control what kids read … this is not History this is a reminder of how people on the right act and this includes tea party members.  This is an outrage and should be stopped  … seems like rights of the people are being abused; is this a group of people trying to  make History more European …get rid of the facts; what next?  Will they write that Texas actually was first inhabited by Europeans? and not by Native Americans tribes? the notion of changing History is reckless… our History may not be perfect, in fact it was has and is awful in parts … but it is the history of the United States and should not be manipulated.

I understand the notion to update and include what has happened in History like having the first Black President… and when the public heard that these folks didn’t know if they should use his middle name etc … Call Him and ask…simple

Saturday finds our President announcing that former Florida Sen. Bob Graham and former EPA administrator William K Reilly will lead the presidential commission that will investigate the Gulf Coast disaster; Graham, a Democrat, is a former Florida governor and senator. Reilly ran the Environmental Protection Agency under Republican President George H.W. Bush. His tenure at the agency included the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska.

There will be a panel of five that will examine/investigate the disaster from its beginning to the current situation including MMS and will report its findings in a few months … The President has stated that the oil spill, which Obama described as an environmental disaster, began April 20 when BP’s Deepwater Horizon drilling rig exploded off the Louisiana coast, killing 11 workers and rupturing an underwater pipe. Since then, at least 210,000 gallons of oil a day have been spewing into the Gulf, threatening beaches, marshes, fisheries and wildlife along the coast.

In other Oil Disaster News this Saturday … BP reports that they will push their time-line of getting the Top Kill in place or done from Sunday to Tuesday …ummmmmmmm not any surprise as the 3stooges have underwhelmed us all along the way; this is yet another sign that plans for emergencies are there for a reason and risk or what i feel betting on success over risk of equipment or life has been the learning curve here.  This disaster puts light on the behavior of people who like Wall Street, Big Banks and the AIG types feel about We the People and it stinks … Money Greed and Profits before the People.

Politics Today: CO, CT Parties Choose Senate Candidates; Hawaiians Vote in Special Elections

Republican and Democratic activists in Connecticut and Colorado are gathering this weekend for state conventions to endorse candidates for U.S. Senate races and other offices. In Hawaii’s 1st District, voters head to the polls in a special election to replace former Rep. Neil Abercrombie (D-HI), who resigned earlier this year to focus on running for governor.

Connecticut Democrats nominated Attorney General Richard Blumenthal to succeed retiring Sen. Chris Dodd, capping a week in which Blumenthal came under fire for allegedly misrepresenting his military record. State Republicans endorsed former wrestling executive Linda McMahon over former Rep. Rob Simmons and investment banker Peter Schiff, who each pledged to gather the necessary petition support to force an August 10 primary.

In Colorado, the parties are gathering at their respective conventions to endorse candidates for the Senate seat now held by Michael Bennet (D-CO). Sen. Bennet was appointed to succeed Sen. Ken Salazar (D-CO) after his confirmation as U.S. Secretary of the Interior.

With the confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan scheduled to begin on June 28, Associate Justice Stephen Breyer, former law clerk Maureen Mahoney, and journalists Joan Biskupic and Lyle Denniston this week took a look at the current state of the Court. The discussion is sponsored by C‑SPAN and the Library of Congress and coincides with the recent release of “The Supreme Court: A C‑SPAN Book Featuring the Justices In Their Own Words.”

Also this week, Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy talked about the confirmation process. In remarks to the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches in Florida, Justice Kennedy said he opposed applying issue “litmus tests” for nominees. The full speech airs on America & the Courts tonight.

TGIF and some News …

Today, is National Bike to Work day,  the 30th anniversary of Pac-Man and Star Wars is being celebrated as well.

The President has another win under his belt, Financial Reform, the biggest overhaul since the 30’s; though some feel the efforts to reform any and all parts of our govt  just haven’t  gone far enough. He also signed a Fuel efficiency Plan.

Why is Congress afraid of real Reform… Most of us know, not all of us practice it … all things in moderation  … in some cases everything will balance itself  out … It seems like our Politicians on the Hill are applying this concept  to our Reform Bills and though it’s a start; moderation in reforming a system that took us down makes you wonder if the dirty little secret is that money still talks and ultimately controls the votes .

I want to know… where is the will, courage and power, which, the Democratic Party has but seems to fear.  The Democratic Party of Yes We Can…  have the power to  make Health-Care , Wall Street/Bank/Aig, Climate Change, and Immigration  Reform Bills stronger, they need to move stricter reform forward.  The President and Congress  have done great things to create a foundation for Reform  and though it’s a start; the key statement from the White House … it’s a start.  The hope is for stricter rules, regulations and policies when the House and Senate go into conference and as the President stated the final legislation will be “effective and responsive” .

The bill would have to be merged in conference with one passed by the House of Representatives in December. The Senate could move to final passage as soon as Thursday night, but Friday looks more likely. “That would then set the stage for a House-Senate conference in early June,” said Concept Capital policy analyst Jaret Seiberg.

The truth behind the oil dump is slowly coming out each week; though some folks have stalled any and all video showing what the dump looks like, those have come to the light of day as well; according to tv over 200thousand gallons of oil leaking per day.  A Bp Representative, Doug Suttle,  spoke on tv today stating they expect to control the situation by late Sunday with a procedure called a TopKill and the relief Well would not be in place until early August. An update was issued and it looks like the solution will take more time.

It’s all very disturbing but the fault lies with the 3stooges =(BP, Halliburton and TransOcean) not the President; this is yet another first and on a major scale .. the BP operation was not prepared for such an event which is very telling and serves as a great warning before they start drilling anywhere else along the coast.

Congress to Tackle Financial Regulation Bill Differences After Senate Passage

House and Senate leaders must reconcile their two different financial industry regulation bills before sending final legislation to the President for his signature. The Senate passed its bill Thursday in a 59-to-39 vote that split largely along party lines, with only two Democrats opposing the bill and four Republicans supporting it. The House passed its version in December.

Earlier Thursday, President Obama said he would work to ensure that the final legislation will be “effective and responsive” in limiting industry practices cited as among the causes of the 2007-2008 economic collapse.

Tuesday News tips …

Democrats… true Democratic Candidates need We the People.  It’s Super Tuesday, Primary day and as we all wait for the votes to come in it is important for all Democrats to GOTV for all the right Candidates who will continue with the great efforts to get our financial system, health care, climate change, immigration reformed, inplace and adjusted as needed.  The focus should be progressives and or candidates willing to get us into the 21st Century and back in saddle again, or as the number one in the Nation.

The oil dump off the Gulf Coast has gotten to a point where everyone is now questioning what was said by the 3 stooges.. =BP/Halliburton/TransOcean from the beginning; did they start spinning from the beginning; why didn’t have equipment siphoning off oil right away.  The conflicts between them was sad and offensive and when the final truth is that the equipment actually malfunctioned, that they were trying to draw oil from a blown well and mud, blow out switch or, top hat,  junk shot and now siphoning, which probably should have been started sooner by people dressed in protective gear including masks.

immigration is still important and seems to be getting shoved under the rug; the polls have stated that people of America are sort of inclined to side on Gov Jan Brewer’s law… well, the poll question is what i question … the law is not stating that we need a comprehensive immigration reform … it states that the police will have the right to questions … by reasonable suspicsion…what is that? what does an illegal look like/what does an American look like?  it means if you look like an undocumented or as most put it … if you look like an illegal then you are up for being stopped, questioned based on your accent, shoes and whatever will get you to show your papers.  We all have to question what happens next? will police be paid at a higher rate because they are doing the job of a immigrant agent? and people need to know that police do commit errors, they do racially profile and in Seattle it was shown on camera … by a citizen…with audio and it def was racial profiling and racial slurs … the polls and how they are worded are the question

Monday mashup

It’s going to be a week of enlightenment for We the People … Super Tuesday is here and while primaries do matter what we all will definitely glean from it all is what side are Americans really on. The effort to educate recruit and mobilize Democrats for special and mid-term elections is still a work in progress. It’s hard to believe any true American is willing to put people into office that practice exclusion or do in fact state they want less government but ask for money and advice from Wall Street, Big Banks and the insurance industry.  The Primaries will …or should help organizers see just who isn’t getting out there, who isn’t motivated to vote and this could be very important leading up to November elections.

FYI … people on the right are crafting a few falsehoods around the Elena Kagan appointment to the Supreme Court; please get the facts go to: White House site and read the information about Kagan;  you will see this is another crazy show … a stalling tactic and effort to portray her in the worst light ever … remember the comments and strange behavior during the Sonia Sotomayer appointment? the mis-understanding of saying what was really meant by “a wise Latina” The questions will be just as strange the length probably as long but Kagan probably will be the next Justice; a woman justice.

BP’s only focus has been capping the oil dump leak with top hats, holders and tubes and while that has gone on they either have forgotten or have no idea how to deal with what is going on with the plumes they are dispersing … strange, because it just seems like someone should be trying to siphon those plumes … is that a novel idea or just common sense. It is also apparent that what was going on at MMS,  other regulators as well as the EPA before President Obama was elected has to be reformed; this is another learning moment for what happens behind closed doors, handled by Republicans… the light has been turned on turbo style and while this oil dump, regulations and the Gulf Coast economy on his plate … who better than President Obama to reform the entire system.  It’s obvious a lot of what has been going on was in the hands of Republicans including  the winking and handshakes … it’s disgusting

Weekend News/Reviews

It’s Sunday and as most of us wake up, turn on the tv we see news of incredible turmoil and violence in Bangkok that appears to be all about control .. shouldn’t we all be able to protest without getting shot? i know, but i still wonder why can’t things be done differently.

Talkingheads are talking Primaries coming up this Tuesday ; we are at a time when people need to decide… the choice of taking Political sides… history  shows that Republicans have questionable behavior; it also has to be understood what would happen if anyone from the Tea Party is voted into Political Office to represent We the People; when in fact the tea party people do not represent all the people only a select few and that does not include people of colour in my opinion.   In some cases Republican Politicians have made comments that suggest women need to stay in the kitchen and off the floor of Congress. It’s an obvious choice to me because Republicans practice exclusion; say they want less govt but go to Wall Street, Big Banks, AIG and big Oil Corp for money to support them; even our Supreme Court has helped Republicans and that move to legally deem corporations and individuals equal

The idea of hearing Sarah Palin talking is bad enough but when she gets out there and gets paid… This woman is hardly qualified to be speaking for anyone … she is an ex-Gov of Alaska who apparently couldn’t finish out her job and some in Alaska do feel she abandoned them is now trying to tell the President what to do and  campaigning for anti-abortion? it’s offensive to hear her talk, it’s offensive for her to be out there taking money to say negative things about other Politicians when she is a Political quitter herself;  it’s offensive to think she honestly feels she is a supporter of Women or Family; because clearly she is not, WHY?  includes all things effect by families: her inability to separate Church from State, a right to choose, English or else? marriage for all people, how did she do among blacks and 1st nation families in Alaska and immigration will affect women and their families.

Today the Gulf Coast Benefit is being held all day and headliners involved and performing include: Lenny Kravitz, Mos Def, Neville Brothers and more …

The BP effort to plug up a siphon tube is starting to work and is it just me or did anyone else feel strange watching all those fisherman standing in line getting pay checks? especially after the interviews,  it definitely felt like some were getting better deals than others … pitting them against each other is just wrong and like some of them said… they? whoever can rectify the problem needs to start rotating boats … everyone should get a piece of the action … speaking of action … there should not be a small print clause about what happens … the people there still should and expect more … contracts with a no lawsuit clause are just wrong.

I get why they are using dispersants but the definition doesn’t get lost on me either …where will the oil plus poison go after being dispersed … EPA?

immigration … Gov Brewer has made a choice to go after the President and we all must remember how Brewer  got her job and after looking at her FB page the idea of the ole bait and switch came to mind; not only was she considered sane at some point she was appointed to Obama’s federal council of governor’s panel, had many ideas that seem good in writing yet one has to wonder …is it power, politics and control that is making  Arizona  an example of how not to act if you truly are an American? or is it

Gregg: GOP Not Trying to Stop Financial Reform

On C‑SPAN’s Newsmakers, Budget Committee Ranking Member Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH) clarified that Republicans were not interested in stopping financial reform but hoped their amendments could improve the bill. In particular, he went over Republican efforts to change the bill’s language regarding derivatives, saying the current bill will hamper the “nation’s ability to be resilient and economically competitive.”

It’s Saturday … and as the weather heats up so does the political climate all over the country; what with primaries, laws that legalize racial profiling, Arizona is out of control … laws like the birther, the shoes please and now a ban on Ethnic Studies, reports of American troops leaving Haiti completely; troop numbers dropped to 900 and will drop again to 500 in June, a group of national business lobbyists in Florida want to take away health care from fellow Americans have joined in a suit against the new law of the land, capping that oil dump on the Gulf Coast, which, if you watched the hearings last week;  it was the other guys fault show and continues to play itself out on national tv like the 3 stooges, only it wasn’t funny at all; it was offensive.

The President  stated that watching them fall all over each other to blame and or point fingers at the other was offensive.  We the People got the impression there was a whole lot of bad acting going on; 3 huge Corporations pretending to care but in the end seem  to be standing firm on the liability cap amount and willing to waive the costs to taxpayers with the help of Republicans and some conserva-dems… how much more can Americans take.  This oil dump will take a toll on every aspect of life on the Gulf Coast and includes oil drilling as well so … alternatives need to be started asap.
