The GOP doesn’t understand GDP or the American Workforce!

Shame on Farmers, Ranchers, and other Industries who have a history of taking advantage of hiring documented, and certainly some are also undocumented workers. The proof was that insane number of 600,000 immigrants taken out of the workforce just recently. Why so many were taken out is was and continues to be bad enough, but knowing they were using immigrants to cover their mostly slim to no wage increases, health insurance, and all the things that any good-faith workforce should be getting!

When will CEOs, Big Corp, and others be reprimanded, regulated, and made to pay up? They should be fined for all the damage they caused the economy!

How many decades have they ruined the lives of so many with greed, selfishness, power, and supremacy that, unfortunately, ultimately impacts consumers!

1935 – FDR signs the Social Security Act

President Franklin D. Roosevelt signs into law the Social Security Act on August 14, 1935. Press photographers snapped pictures as FDR, flanked by ranking members of Congress, signed into law the historic act, which guaranteed an income for the unemployed and retirees. FDR commended Congress for what he considered to be a “patriotic” act.

Roosevelt had taken the helm of the country in 1932 in the midst of the Great Depression, the nation’s worst economic crisis. The Social Security Act (SSA) was in keeping with his other “New Deal” programs, including the establishment of the Works Progress Administration and the Civilian Conservation Corps, which attempted to hoist America out of the Great Depression by putting Americans back to work.

In his public statement that day, FDR expressed concern for “young people [who] have come to wonder what would be their lot when they came to old age” as well as those who had employment but no job security. Although he acknowledged that “we can never insure one hundred percent of the population against one hundred percent of the hazards and vicissitudes of life,” he hoped the act would prevent senior citizens from ending up impoverished.

Reminder: Ending DACA could have cost states billions in GDP ~ reminder

While several groups on both sides of the political aisle have posted how much they believe ending DACA will cost, the trump admin didn’t and still doesn’t seem to care or understand GDP.

As Americans, some of us believe in the lowercase c for capitalism, so the idea that it would cost approximately $290 billion-plus to end DACA and Deport the Dreamers as well seems like an obvious wtf moment. The logical response would seem to be Nah, we can’t afford to do this, so working this ish out in a reasonable bipartisan way seems much saner… right?

So, the demand to end DACA was heard and being pushed worldwide by the now-former and late AG Jeff Sessions in what seemed like an exciting press conference, at least to him. Yet, those who understood the gravity of the decision fought back. It doesn’t take a Rocket Scientist to understand how GDP works and what its ultimate impact is on our economy. Well, a few civilians get it.

Luckily, the courts stepped in then, but the struggle, the fight, and best efforts for a perfect union continue.

In Article II, Section 1, Clause 7, the President is prohibited from receiving “any other Emolument from the United States, or any of them” besides his fixed salary

The term emolument in this context is broad and can include any profit, gain, or advantage — not just direct payments, but also benefits such as jobs, contracts, or other forms of compensation from federal or state governments

1952 ~ “Hound Dog” is recorded for the first time by Big Mama Thornton

On this day in 1952, Big Mama Thornton and the Johnny Otis Band recorded “Hound Dog” and turned it into a smash hit on the R&B charts, where it stayed at #1 for seven weeks.

August 13, 1952, four years before Elvis Presley would make “Hound Dog” his longest running no. 1 hit, the song was recorded for the very first time by the rhythm-and-blues singer Willie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton in Los Angeles, California. Since Presley’s version ran 11 weeks at the top of the pop music charts, it’s often been mistakenly assumed to be his original.

Big Mama Thornton was a native of Montgomery, Alabama, who came of age on the R&B circuit in the 1940s after starting her professional career in 1941 at the age of 14. In 1951, she signed her first record contract with Peacock Records and was soon paired with another of its artists, bandleader Johnny Otis, who brought Thornton out to join his band in California.

It was there, in late 1952, that Otis asked two young songwriters on the Los Angeles music scene if they would write something, especially for Thornton. Those songwriters were Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller, who would go on to have an enormous impact on R&B and early rock and roll through their work with groups like the Coasters and the Drifters. But hits like “Yakkity Yak,” “Charlie Brown,” “Stand By Me,” “Jailhouse Rock” and “Love Potion No. 9″ were still ahead of Lieber and Stoller when they did what Otis asked and came back to him with a 12-bar country blues tune called “Hound Dog.”
