Senate Schedule for Thursday, February 6, 2014

The Senate stands adjourned until 9:30am on Thursday, February 6, 2014. Following any Leader remarks, the Senate will resume consideration of S.1845, the Unemployment Insurance Extension act with the time until 11:00am equally divided and controlled between the two Leaders or their designees.

 The filing deadline for all first degree amendments to S.1845 is 9:45am on Thursday and the filing deadline for 2^nd degree amendments to the Reed amendment #2714 and S.1845 is 10:45am on Thursday.

 At 11:00am, there will be up to 2 roll call votes:

–        Motion to invoke cloture on the Reed amendment #2714 and

–        if cloture is not invoked on the Reed amendment, motion to invoke cloture on S.1845.

 We also expect to consider the nomination of Senator Baucus to be Ambassador to China during Thursday’s session.

The previously scheduled cloture vote on the Reed amendment #2714 (3 month extension of unemployment insurance benefits paid for with pension smoothing/no UI for millionaires) to S.1845, Emergency Unemployment Compensation Extension Act, will now occur at 2:00pm today. If cloture is invoked, there would be up to 30 hours for post-cloture debate on the amendment. If cloture is not invoked, there would be an immediate cloture vote on the underlying UI bill, S.1845. We also expect to vote on confirmation of Senator Baucus’s nomination today. Senators will be notified when the debate (up to 60 minutes) and vote on the Baucus nomination are scheduled.

2:00pm The Senate began a 15 minute roll call vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the Reed amendment #2714 (3 month extension of unemployment insurance benefits paid for with pension smoothing/no UI for millionaires) to S.1845, Emergency Unemployment Compensation Extension Act.

Not Invoked by 58-40.

For procedural reasons, Senator Reid changed his vote to no and entered a motion to reconsider the failed cloture vote at a later time.

3:46pm The Senate is in Legislative Session and has resumed consideration of S.1845, Emergency Unemployment Compensation Extension.

There will be no further roll call votes in the Senate this week.

This evening, Senator Reid filed cloture on the motion to proceed to S.1963, a bill to repeal section 403 of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2013 (military retirement pay).

By consent, the cloture vote will occur at 5:30pm on Monday, February 10.
