Taylor Radig was working as an undercover investigator at a cattle company that was abusing baby calves, and was unfairly charged with animal cruelty after exposing the mistreatment.

Sign my petition asking for the charge to be dropped.

An undercover investigator named Taylor Radig worked at Quanah Cattle Company to document the violent abuse of baby calves, some of which were too young to have been taken away from their mothers. The cows are shown in the footage being dragged around by their ears, tossed onto their heads, and kicked until they cry.

Taylor helped document and report the abuses, leading to three of the workers being charged with animal cruelty. But then the sheriff charged her with a crime for simply witnessing and documenting this animal cruelty!

I started a petition on Change.org because I know other whistleblowers have have won campaigns against reporting factory farming abuse. Now I’m hoping I can help Taylor for her bravery. Click here to sign my petition asking for the charge against Taylor Radig to be dropped immediately.

Going undercover in factory farms and slaughterhouses is becoming more and more dangerous as states around the country start passing laws that make it illegal to film or photograph inside of them. That’s why it’s so important that people like Taylor aren’t punished for doing the right thing.

Animal welfare experts describe the footage from Quanah as unacceptable treatment and severe abuse. Without this evidence, baby cows would have continued to face violent beatings and cruel treatment without any recourse.

I believe that Taylor is being charged with animal cruelty as a way of intimidating other people who want to ensure humane conditions for livestock animals, even though she helped blow the whistle on these atrocious abuses. Pressuring the district attorney to drop the charges is important for whistleblowers like Taylor and for protecting farm animals everywhere.

As we wrap up the second week of our second special session, I want to share an update from Olympia.

While quite a bit of time has passed, my priorities remain the same. Every day, I am working to protect our commitment to funding education, while keeping our vital services to our most vulnerable intact, and every day, I’m pushing to pass a transportation package to protect our communities and grow jobs.

All over the state, Washington’s transportation infrastructure helps people get to work, moves crops from the field to the store, and carries freight to market.

Keeping that system safe and strong is mission critical to our state’s economy and it’s one of state government’s most important responsibilities. The recent Skagit Bridge collapse is a stark reminder of the critical role our transportation system plays in our communities and economy.

My team, along with a diverse coalition of stakeholders, is working day and night to get a transportation package passed that keeps Washington moving forward.

But this isn’t just about supporting the economic activity moving through our transportation system — it’s also about the jobs a transportation package would create. If we can come together in Olympia and pass a strong transportation package, it will generate well-paying, middle-class jobs in every corner of the state and help jump start Washington’s economic recovery.

My team and I are also working hard to support our long-term economic recovery by meeting our moral and constitutional duty to fully fund our kids’ education. My budget principles continue to reflect my values — making sure our kids get the best education without continuing to slash the critical services kids need to help them be successful in school.

Your support, and your commitment to the values we fought for during my campaign, helps me stand strong for our shared beliefs every day.

Two dolphins dead at party


Two dolphins are dead after the Connyland themepark in Switzerland allowed a two-day rave to take place just a few yards from their tank.

The pair died agonizing, drawn-out deaths, seizing and foaming at the mouth. Veterinarians now say their deaths were likely caused by the ear-splitting music of the rave and drugs that ravers threw into the dolphins’ tank.

Carin Zellerman is an animal activist living in Sweden. After hearing about the tragedy — and the fact that Connyland ignored protests by local activists who warned a rave would endanger the dolphins — she decided to start a petition on Change.org to save the remaining dolphins from Connyland’s negligence. Please sign Carin’s petition calling on Swiss officials to shut down the Connyland dolphinarium where two dolphins died after a rave last month.

Eight dolphins have died at Connyland in the past three years, and a 2010 investigation into alleged violations of Swiss animal welfare laws at Connyland is still pending. Meanwhile, the health of the remaining dolphins at Connyland is slowly deterioriating  (due to illness and chemical poisoning as well as claustrophobia that results in depressive behavior and sometimes self-abuse).

The good news is that a  global outcry over this disaster is fueling the longstanding domestic movement to get Connyland’s dolphin tank — the last dolphinarium in Switzerland — shut down. Swiss officials can’t ignore this gross violation of animal welfare; they need to know that the world is watching, and that thousands expect them to save Connyland’s remaining dolphins.

Tell the Mirage to stop its cruel mistreatment of dolphins

The dolphins are trapped in a concrete pool next to a highway. They breathe in fumes and smog day after day. There’s no protection from the desert heat or the winter snow. Seventy-five percent die prematurely.

This is the horrifying existence of the dolphins at The Mirage Hotel and Casino’s “Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat.” Imprisoned in pools that are too shallow and too small, they’re forced to do mindless tricks for high-paying guests day after day – until they develop respiratory infections and diseases that claim their lives.

No creature should be treated this way.

Animal protection organizations have appealed to the National Marine Fisheries Service to deny The Mirage’s requests for more dolphins, but as more and more dolphins die — the death count is now at 14 — the Mirage keeps “restocking” its exhibit.

This isn’t the first time The Mirage has faced criticism for its reprehensible treatment of animals. In the past, The Mirage housed tigers in the building — but due to large opposition from the public, the casino is now tiger-free.

This set a clear precedent: If The Mirage believes the public fallout will be worse than the profits it makes from its mistreated animals, it will stop its despicable behavior.

Together, we can build the pressure needed to free The Mirage’s dolphins. Sign this petition today to tell The Mirage to stop imprisoning, mistreating, and causing the deaths of dolphins:
