Patty Murray -Washington State thanks you …VoTE PMurray Nov.2


Yesterday, President Barack Obama joined me out on the campaign trail in Seattle.

I’m grateful that President Obama came to Washington state to show his support for our campaign and help us reach thousands of voters. I wish all of my friends and supporters like you could have been at the big campaign rally we had on the campus of the University of Washington.

While here, President Obama talked about everything that we’re doing to create jobs and fight for hard-working families across our state and across the country.

He also laid out in very clear terms the stakes in this election: whether we’re going to continue to fight for the changes we need to make to get our country back on track, or whether we’ll let our opponents — fueled by tens of millions of dollars from shadowy corporate and right-wing groups — try to buy this election and move us back to the failed policies of the past.

I’m running for re-election to the U.S. Senate because I want to continue to be your voice in Washington, DC — to wake up every day and do everything I can to help people and solve problems.

Washington Democrats are Counting on YOU

I know you are getting tons of emails. The truth is November’s election is in a little over three weeks and it all comes down to the actions we take right now to get out our message and turn out Democrats to the polls.

The margins of victory have no room for error for any Democrat to sit on the sidelines. If you care about the progress we have made for America, we must act now. Here are the three best ways you can get involved to help retain our Democratic Majority in November:

  • Sign up to Volunteer — We can put you in touch with a local campaign in your area who needs your help now, on the phones, knocking on doors and passing out literature. We urgently need volunteers on the ground. We know exactly which voters we need to target. We just need folks to make it happen.
  • Ask your friends to Volunteer — Post a link on Facebook, tweet it out, or simply press forward on this email and send to ten friends. Every committed Democrat needs to get involved and we are counting on you. The Republicans are counting on Obama Democrats to stay home — let’s prove them wrong.
  • Can’t volunteer? Donate! — Outfitting a grassroots campaign organizer with a kit costs $28 dollars – contribute that today and it could mean that one more campaign has one more volunteer who has the resources it will take for victory on Election Day. $100 could cover production of over a 1000 door hangers. We urgently need your support.

It’s all come down to these final three weeks.

We cannot wake up on November 3rd regretting we didn’t do more. I need you in this game. Stand with Speaker Pelosi and President Obama and let’s prove the Republicans wrong. They have underestimated us before but let’s show them this is their biggest miscalculation of all.

Are you tired of the National Organization for Marriage, a.k.a. NOM, putting on a mask of tolerance for the media?

Are you sick of their claim that they speak for a majority of Americans – while they support extreme anti-gay zealots and keep their donors secret?

Well, we are. And today, along with our friends at the Courage Campaign, we’re launching a website that pulls back the curtain on NOM for everyone to see.

NOM Exposed uncovers shocking secrets so people can get the real facts as NOM throws its weight around in race after race this election cycle. We’ll post up-to-the-minute dirt on NOM over the coming months and years, so bookmark the site and come back often.

NOM recently released a slick new ad on behalf of Tom Emmer, the candidate for governor of Minnesota with ties to a group that condoned the execution of gays. The ad disguises NOM’s anti-LGBT agenda behind a fake claim of protecting civil rights.

NOM even had the gall to compare itself to Martin Luther King, Jr., flashing images of his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.

It’s a flagrant distortion of reality – the latest in a history of deception since NOM opened for business during the Prop. 8 campaign.

NOMexposed.org is about spreading truth. We’ve spent months digging into NOM’s funding, shady ties, ethics violations, and more. We created this site so that every time someone searches for NOM – voters, elected leaders, reporters – they’ll get the real story. They’ll find out that:

  • Brian Brown, NOM’s President, has said that “allowing gay marriage is akin to allowing polygamous marriage.”
  • Not to be outdone, NOM founder Maggie Gallagher has said same-sex marriage is worse than polygamy.
  • NOM has close ties to the powerful and secretive right-wing religious group Opus Dei.
  • Robert George, the “reigning brain of the Christian right” and Chairman of NOM’s board co-authored the Federal Marriage Amendment that would have written anti-gay discrimination into the U.S. Constitution. He also believes that repealing antiquated laws banning sodomy will lead to incest.
  • To hide its political activities, NOM has blatantly flouted campaign finance laws.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg. We’ve tracked NOM’s financial ties, showing how huge, secret donations have swelled its budget from $500,000 to $10 million in just three years. We’ve connected the dots to the hierarchy of the Catholic Church and the Mormon Church.

Now we need your help to get the word out – share shocking facts on Facebook and Twitter or spread the truth by simply passing this email along.

Bob Woodward’s new book, “Obama’s War,” comes out tomorrow, and leaked excerpts show just how hard some military leaders are fighting to stop a withdrawal from Afghanistan. Late last year, as President Obama struggled to pin the military down into an airtight exit strategy, General Petraeus said:

“[The administration] is ****ing with the wrong guy.”

It’s clear Petraeus and his subordinates want to ignore the July 2011 deadline to start withdrawing troops. A colonel briefing reporters at the Pentagon this week even told them that, “No one said that we were withdrawing in July 2011.”

Military officials need to understand that it’s not up to them when we leave Afghanistan. Ultimately, that’s up to us, the American people, and we’re sick and tired of this war that’s not making us safer and that’s not worth the cost. General Petraeus is the one messing with the wrong people–the 57 percent of Americans who oppose the war.

The publicity around Woodward’s book gives us a new opportunity to get people’s attention about how the military is undermining the Commander-in-Chief and working to extend the war. Our new video exposes their effort, but we need your help to get it in front of people.
