a message from .. NARAL Pro-Choice America

NARAL Pro-Choice America

Rush Limbaugh is at it again.

He came to Mitt Romney’s defense by calling NARAL Pro-Choice America and Planned Parenthood “death squads.”

Tell Romney a real leader would stand up to a bully like Limbaugh.

We’ve all heard about Rush Limbaugh’s rants attacking strong women. Thanks to pro-choice people like you, he faced an onslaught of criticism for his offensive language against Sandra Fluke.

Well, he is at it again.

Yesterday, he came to Mitt Romney’s defense by calling NARAL Pro-Choice America and Planned Parenthood “death squads.”

First, he claimed that the “Democrats [are] funded and underwritten by Planned Parenthood and NARAL,” and then said, “If they’re not death squads, I don’t know what is.”1

Limbaugh’s inflammatory rhetoric is outrageous and needs to be condemned. Join me in calling on Romney to stand up to Limbaugh’s remarks.

It’s alarming that a politician who is running for the highest office in the nation fails to address Limbaugh head on.

When Limbaugh went after Sandra Fluke, Mitt Romney refused to call for Limbaugh to apologize. Instead, Romney cowardly said, “it’s not the language I would have used.”2

Will Romney duck Limbaugh’s incendiary language a second time?

Tell Romney that a real leader would stand up to a bully like Limbaugh. Make sure he knows that when he refuses to denounce Limbaugh for his offensive language, he fails women.

We’re not going to let these outrageous attacks on women’s freedom and privacy go unanswered.

In solidarity,

Nancy Keenan

Women and their RIGHTS to birth-control coverage

NARAL Pro-Choice America

I know you care about stopping attacks on women’s birth control, so I wanted to make sure you heard about this.

There is a new bill in Congress that would let any boss – even the owner of a fast-food restaurant – block his employees from getting insurance coverage for birth control. It’s ridiculous!

The lawmaker behind the bill is a big supporter of the recent “Fortnight for Freedom.” This was a series of nationwide events organized by the anti-choice United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

I hope you take a moment to tell your representative that this bill cannot stand. It’s wrong to stop women from getting birth-control coverage.

Women in the Military deserve better

NARAL Pro-Choice America

It’s outrageous. Women in the military who become pregnant from rape cannot use their health insurance to cover abortioncare.Help us end this horrific policy.Send a message to your senators today.www.prochoiceamerica.org

Shameless. That’s the only word to describe the position that anti-choice members of Congress hold against women in our military who are raped.

Right now, some senators still deny women in the military who become pregnant from rape the right to use their health insurance for abortion care.

I need your help today to change that. Please ask your senators to vote for an amendment that will end this cruel policy.

Every woman who is raped deserves the freedom to make the choice that is best for her.

But women in the military don’t have the same rights as we do – all because anti-choice politicians banned the military health-insurance program from covering abortion care, even in tragic circumstances.

That’s right – members of Congress went out of their way more than 30 years ago to pass a cruel and heartless law that took away military women’s coverage of abortion care in cases of rape or incest.

Help us end this horrific policy. Your senators need to hear from you now. Send a message and stand with the military women who are fighting for us.

Today, women are serving on active duty in greater and greater numbers. Imagine what a woman fighting overseas must go through if she is raped and becomes pregnant. What if she can’t afford to pay for abortion services? Where would she turn?

We’ve been fighting to repeal this law for 30 years – and we’re not going to stop. Right now, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire is leading the effort to repeal the ban.

It’s going to be an uphill battle ending this policy, but we’re going for it. Please join me. Contact your senators today.

Thanks for standing with our servicewomen.

They want to take away our health care

HELP US REACH 2,000 NEW MEMBERS AND RECEIVE A WINDOW CLING!
DONATE NOW
In case you thought the War on Women was letting up, think again.
Just hours after the Supreme Court delivered a tremendous victory for women’s health by upholding the Affordable Care Act last week, the anti-choice leadership in the House scheduled a vote to repeal it.  The health-care law makes it easier for women to get the health care they need, and attacking it is only one front in anti-choice politicians’ War on Women.
Also, in just the last few weeks, the U.S. House of Representatives lined up no fewer than five bills attacking choice.  And the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) organized nationwide rallies to oppose birth-control coverage.
We must fight back against this outrageous anti-woman agenda.  That is why we set a goal to gain 2,000 new members to fight back with us. We’re so close to our goal — and we need you to put us over the top.
Will you make a special contribution to NARAL Pro-Choice America right now to help us reach our critical goal of 2,000 new members?
Carmen, the scary truth is that we are facing anti-choice extremists who are gaining more and more momentum every day.  If we don’t fight back, anti-choice politicians and groups will continue to interfere in women’s health and lives.
Anti-choice groups like the USCCB and their extreme allies in Congress are out of touch with our values and priorities.  It is critical that we beat back their attempts to repeal the health-care law and take away a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body. That is why we need your immediate help to face these extremists and protect choice at all levels of government.
Will you help us reach our goal of 2,000 new members by making a contribution to NARAL Pro-Choice America today? Help support all the work we do to protect choice.
The stakes are simply too high for us to sit on the sidelines and let these anti-choice extremists continue to roll back women’s rights.  We need your help immediately.  And, if you donate today, you will receive a special NARAL Pro-Choice America window cling as a thank-you for your support.
Will you help us fight extremists and reach our membership goal by donating right now?
We will not stand by as anti-choice groups and politicians perpetuate their War on Women.  Thank you for all that you do to stand up for women’s freedom and privacy.
Sincerely,
Nancy Keenan

Should rape and incest survivors be forced to prove that they were assaulted to the IRS?

Should rape and incest survivors be forced to prove to the IRS that they were assaulted?

What kind of question is that?

But a bill proposed by anti-choice lawmakers in Congress could force many sexual assault survivors to do just that.1

The bill would impose tax penalties on small businesses and individuals who buy abortion coverage with their own money—with exceptions only for cases of rape, incest, or when a woman’s life is in danger.2

The result? Survivors of rape and incest who seek abortion care could be forced to detail their assaults and provide proof to IRS investigators.3

Reliving a horrific sexual assault to the police and in court is awful enough. Forcing women to prove that they were assaulted to IRS investigators is simply inhumane.

Tell Congress to stand up against this terrible bill—and speak out against the Republican war on women. Sign the petition today

Despite campaigning on job creation, Republicans have focused their agenda this year on attacking the rights and well-being of women. From pushing several anti-choice bills to cutting billions from health care, food aid, child care, and education, their attacks constitute nothing less than a full-scale war on women.

But as we saw earlier this year, a huge outcry can have a big impact. When Republicans included a provision in the original version of this bill that redefined rape—which said that only “forcible” rape counted when it came to using federal dollars for abortion care—they faced a huge backlash, and eventually removed that term.4

Now, the new version of the bill is out—and as Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, put it, “This bill gets more outrageous and insulting by the day. Not only would a woman have to describe her sexual assault to the police, but she could then be forced to relive that horrifying experience with an agent from the IRS.”5

Republicans clearly have no boundaries when it comes to attacking women’s rights. But just like when they attempted to redefine rape, we can stop them—and their bill—if we all speak out.
