Would you like to star in an upcoming Rethink Afghanistan video?

Next month will mark the one-year anniversary of the launch of President Obama’s escalated military campaign in Afghanistan. One year later, violence is still getting worse and costs are skyrocketing. After more than nine years, it’s time to end this war.

Today, we’re launching “Because It’s Time” on Rethink Afghanistan to help Americans who oppose this war to make their voices heard. On this page, you can post your photo and a reason why it’s time to bring troops home.

Starting next Wednesday, you’ll have the chance to vote on your favorite comments. Those who get the most votes will get to star in an upcoming Rethink Afghanistan video.

Take a strong public stand against the war by posting your picture and comment now.

Sincerely,

Drone strikes and other extrajudicial killings outside of war zones are skyrocketing under the Obama Administration–and U.S. citizens are on the kill list

That may sound too shocking to believe, but it’s true. It’s also completely unacceptable. Sign our petition urging President Obama to stop targeted killings beyond war zones and to demand transparency for how people end up on the kill lists.

These strikes are a real threat to your safety. Every time a civilian dies, we give al-Qaida a huge recruiting opportunity and validate their propaganda, and some estimates indicate that more than 90 percent of those killed are civilians. Because these strikes are carried out in secret, those who execute them do so with little or no accountability for the harm they cause to civilians and to our security.

Our new video shows the terrible impact of drone strikes and other extrajudicial killings, often taking place in support of the brutal, flailing war policy in Afghanistan. It shows that these strikes stoke popular anger against the U.S., and that extrajudicial killings without accountability are a basic threat to our democracy.

We’ve got to stop them.

Sign our petition and help us raise the alarm about the danger to U.S. citizens, at home and abroad, from unaccountable drone strikes and other extrajudicial killings.

Sincerely,

Derrick Crowe, Robert Greenwald
and the Brave New Foundation team

Tomorrow is Veterans Day, the 10th Veterans Day since the Afghanistan War began.

The burden of this brutal, futile war falls heaviest on a very small slice of the population: military members and their families. Many of them think that this war is immoral, and that makes fighting in it a weight they’ll have to carry their whole lives. Our new video features the voices of some of these veterans, urging us to rethink the burden we’re laying on troops.

Rethink Afghanistan is partnering with the Truth Commission on Conscience in War to help lift some of this burden. We’re pushing to expand the rights of veterans who refuse to serve in specific wars on moral grounds. Right now you have to oppose all wars, ever, to be granted conscientious objector status. That’s silly–you don’t have to be a pacifist to think it’s morally wrong to be fighting an endless war in Afghanistan. You can learn more about this push to honor troops’ consciences at the Truth Commission on Conscience in War’s website.

Share this video with your friends to help honor those who stood up to say, “I can’t fight this war. My conscience won’t allow it.” Let’s all remember what we’re asking of our troops on this Veterans Day.

Sincerely,

Derrick Crowe, Robert Greenwald
and the Brave New Foundation team

Latinos4Reform, a conservative group, has produced a new ad encouraging Latinos in Nevada NOT TO VOTE! They are exploiting our community and trying to convince us to stay home and NOT exercise our right to vote. This is all just to further their political agenda. This is undemocratic and un-American.

DON’T LET OUR VOICES BE SILENCED!

Cuéntame wants to fight back by producing a counter-advertisement illustrating the importance of the Latino vote. Can you help us by donating $10 so that we can create the advertisement AND buy Facebook ads so thousands of people will get the message?

Please donate TODAY to help us ensure that Latinos4Reform and other groups like them DO NOT succeed in cheating Latinos out of their votes.

To donate, click here or text ‘BNF CABRON’ to 85944 to donate $10 via phone.

Thanks for your support.
