You might have heard: Mitt Romney announced his vice presidential pick, Paul Ryan from Wisconsin.

The Romney/Ryan ticket is just a double down by the GOP on its plan to destroy the middle class. While a member of Congress, Ryan crafted a budget plan that would end Medicare as we know it and slash funding for education and to fix our crumbling infrastructure, like bridges and roads. He has supported destructive free trade agreements, like CAFTA, that shipped good U.S. jobs overseas. Ryan wants to gamble with our retirement by privatizing social secruity. And, like Romney, he has supported attacks on collective bargaining rights for public workers and defended tax breaks for the rich.

Can you take a minute to make sure that every one of your Facebook friends knows the truth about the Romney/Ryan ticket?

We need to get the message out: The Romney/Ryan plan would transform America from the land of opportunity for all into a land of entitlement for the rich. They’re going to spend millions of dollars on TV ads, but we have something better than a pot of money from the Cayman Islands.

Each of you has the power to influence the people who matter most: your friends and family, the folks you talk to all the time. We don’t need media pundits to share our message when we have the power of real people.

Share our Facebook image now with your friends and family so that you, not Romney and Ryan’s rich donors, can be the one who gets the message out:

Breaking News: The threat to women just doubled

NARAL Pro-Choice America

The biggest threat to women’s health?You’re looking at them.

Help us spread the word.

The threat to women’s reproductive lives and health just doubled.

Just this morning, Mitt Romney announced his choice for his vice presidential running mate: Anti-choice extremist Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI).

Anti-choice forces are thrilled with Ryan, and it’s no wonder why:

  • During his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, Ryan cast 59 votes on abortion and other reproductive rights issues. He voted anti-choice each and every time.
  • Ryan repeatedly voted for and cosponsored the Federal Abortion Ban, a law that criminalizes some abortion services, endangers women’s health, and carries a two-year prison sentence for doctors.

Ryan is outspoken about his anti-choice beliefs:

“I’m as pro-life as a person gets. You’re not going to have a truce. Judges are going to come up. Issues come up, they’re unavoidable, and I’m never going to not vote pro-life.”1

We need your help to defeat the anti-choice Romney-Ryan ticket and all anti-choice politicians who are dangerous threats to women’s health.

Make no mistake about it: Ryan is 100% behind the War on Women agenda and, if elected on November 6, he’s ready to work with Mitt Romney the day after the inauguration to:

  • Defund Planned Parenthood clinics across the nation;
  • Eliminate the Title X family-planning program, which provides mammograms and cancer screenings to low-income individuals;
  • Deny women in the military — who defend our freedom overseas — the right to use their own, private funds for abortion care at military hospitals;
  • Pass legislation to effectively ban abortion coverage in state health-insurance exchanges; and
  • Allow hospitals to refuse to provide emergency abortion care, even when a woman’s life is in danger.

Please help us get the word out: Romney and Ryan are dangerous to women’s health.

With nothing to stand in the way of the extreme Romney-Ryan agenda, we could lose the protection of Roe v. Wade, women’s health and lives will be at risk — and anti-choice zealots could wipe out decades’ worth of reproductive rights we’ve fought so hard to win.

We can spread the word about these and other anti-choice candidates. But we’re running out of time. With less than 90 days to go, we need to knock on every door, make every call, and sound the warning bell to every pro-choice voter we can find. If we can get them to the polls, we can defeat anti-choice politicians running across the country and continue with all our important grassroots and advocacy work to ensure the right to privacy.

Please make the most generous gift you can to NARAL Pro-Choice America — right now — to beat the Romney-Ryan ticket, protect our pro-choice allies, and defend choice at all levels of government.

Thanks for all you do.

Victory! Re: Safeway to hero: you’re suspended … Tim Newman, Change.org

Change.org
We’ve just heard some incredible news. Just a few days ago, Ryan Young didn’t know if he would ever get his job back. He’d been suspended without pay after he intervened to stop the assault of a pregnant woman, and Safeway wouldn’t give any indication of when he’d be allowed back.But something remarkable happened. Douglas Castro, a customer at Ryan’s Safeway, heard about the incident and he started a petition to reinstate Ryan — and people from all over the country rallied behind him. You and over 180,000 others signed Douglas’ petition asking Safeway to reinstate Ryan with full back-pay, and Ryan’s just been told he’ll go back to work next week!

Ryan’s case was featured on CNN, and the campaign was covered in national media from CBS to Business Insider. And after weeks of silence from the company, Safeway finally announced Ryan would return to work.

Ryan says he’s “deeply grateful” to everyone who signed the petition. “Knowing that I had all these people standing behind me and that I wasn’t alone really helped me through this difficult time,” said Ryan. “Thank you again to everyone who took the time to help me out.”

It’s an amazing victory. It means that an expectant father has his job back — but it’s also something more. In the past, employees often had to fight these battles alone. Doug‘s victory is proof that this is changing — and that when people across the country come together, they have the power to make a real difference.

Thanks for being a change-maker,

P.S. Right now, another urgent petition to save a loyal employee could use your support.

  • Larry Sapienza was fired from his job at his local library — and according to his community, it’s because he was used as a scapegoat when a decision made by his superiors backfired. Sarah, a former co-worker, has started a petition to have him re-hired.

What would you do if you were in a grocery store, you turned into an aisle, and you saw a man beating his pregnant girlfriend? Would you run for help? How long would that take? Would it be too late by the time security arrived?

Ryan Young worked at the meat counter of a Safeway supermarket. Reports say that when Ryan saw a customer push and kick his pregnant girlfriend last month, Ryan stepped in to stop the beating.

According to the press, Ryan’s actions earned him praise from his local police chief, but not from his employer. Instead of treating Ryan like a hero, Safeway claimed Ryan should have called security and suspended him without pay while it investigates the “altercation.” Pending the results of that investigation, Ryan could be fired for good.

Doug Castro is a security guard who shops at the Safeway where Ryan works, and he believes Ryan did the right thing by intervening. That’s why Doug started a petition on Change.org asking Safeway to lift Ryan’s suspension and give him backpay for the income he lost during his involuntary time away from work. Ryan says one reason he felt so compelled to intervene is that he’s an expectant dad himself — his wife is 5 months pregnant. “We’re expecting a child,” Ryan says. “I’ve been suspended for just about a month now without pay for doing something I feel was right, that police said was right.”

Indeed, local Police Chief Ron Langford told reporters, “In my mind, in this case Ryan did the right thing.”

The police have already turned over security footage of the incident to prosecutors so that the man who beat his girlfriend can be charged, yet Ryan has been suspended for almost a month with no income. Doug believes that if thousands of people sign his petition, Safeway will bow to public pressure and put Ryan back on the job.
