a message from Vice Presient Biden

But we can’t let up now.

There are campaign offices out there that need to add extra phone lines because they’re packed with volunteers ready to make calls. There are volunteers ready to go canvass, but they need flyers to go door to door. There are kids on college campuses working to get their classmates to vote, and they need our help, too.

I don’t want to let any of them down — not now, not when we’re so close.

So I need you to join another supporter and commit to this work, together.

Thanks for all you do,

Joe Biden
Midnight tomorrow is the deadline for getting last-minute urgent funds into our final week’s media ad buy.

We just got new polls that show several challengers surging in these final 8 days and we continue to see our members with narrow leads in dozens of races nationwide. Urgent additions must be made to our ad buy to put us over the top — but we are still coming up short on the funds.

We are literally just $77K away from President Obama and Joe Biden‘s grassroots goal — we can get there tonight in time for tomorrow’s one week out ad buy, but only if you can give right now. I have several House Democrats lined up to match your gifts 2-to-1 tonight. Please give right now to our final week’s ad buy.

It all comes down to these final 8 days — it’s now or never and I know we can do this. Don’t let Sarah Palin and her tea party express buy their way into Congress with deceptive ads. Please contribute $5, $10 or more right now so we can cross the finish line to victory together.

Subject: Will we do the same?

————————————————————————————

Friend —

The Republicans are putting everything they’ve got into these 8 final days before Election Day. The only question is will we do the same?

They are trying to overwhelm us with misleading attack ads funded by the very same special interests that would hold enormous sway if Republicans control Congress.

Let me tell you something. I’ve been around campaigns for a long time and I have never seen a midterm election with this many races in play. That’s why my friends at the DCCC have a strategy in place to secure victory in these final days. But they need your help to fund it by midnight tomorrow.

Every dollar you give could be the difference between victory and defeat for another House Democrat.

Help the DCCC raise $250,000 more before the One Week Out deadline Midnight Tomorrow to fund Rapid Response ads and support their state-of-the-art voter contact efforts for the final push before Election Day. Contribute today and your gift will be matched 2-to-1 by generous House Democrats.

We’ve seen this kind of politics from the Republicans before. They’re coming at us with this final blitz of attack ads on the simple calculation that we won’t have the wherewithal to fight back.

Your support will help our Democratic champions in the House set the record straight against these kinds of attacks in these final days, when it matters the most.

In an election this important, we cannot have a single regret, thinking we could’ve worked harder in these final days.

With victory so close at hand, now is the time to move forward with everything we’ve got.

Joe Biden

Just got off the phone… a message from James Carville

I just got off the phone getting an update from Democratic Headquarters about how things are looking out there.

They told me early voting is going better than expected in several states and that the poll numbers are tight but showing us up in dozens of toss-ups. Then they said — they need cash.

We’re now just hours away from our last shot to wire money to our campaigns for their get-out-the-vote blitz this weekend.

We can’t leave any votes on the table because a campaign doesn’t have the cash to rent a van or pay for gas to get folks to the polls. The DCCC must have $28,949 more in the bank by the 5pm wire deadline today to get enough Democrats to the polls in races where Democrats are ahead, but just barely.

Contribute $5, $10 or more by the 5pm wire deadline today to support this weekend’s make-or-break voter turnout activity in districts where Democrats are on the cusp of victory.

We’re talking about literally keeping the lights on in campaign headquarters out there. They want to support even more Democrats running against Republican extremists but they can’t unless they get money in the door by the 5pm wire deadline.

You know these extreme tea party nut cases that Sarah Palin is trying to put in Congress aren’t going down without a fight. Neither can we.

After this election is over, what will you tell your kids and your grandkids that you did to keep Sarah Palin’s favorite extremists out of Congress?

Contribute before 5pm today.

What are you even voting on?

By now you’ve probably already decided who you’re voting for to represent you in Congress—and maybe some other key local offices too.
But every year, there are tons of local initiatives on ballots across the country. They don’t always get as much attention—but they have huge consequences for important issues at home. And THIS year, there are initiatives on the ballot in Washington that you oughta know about.
Luckily, progressive groups and partners in Washington have put together a handy ballot guide to help you decide how to vote on some of the top initiatives offered on your ballot this year.  Click here to check it out:
Every time we’ve had an opportunity to share this kind of information with MoveOn members, we hear feedback on how helpful it is—so make sure to help your friends out too by forwarding this email!
Thanks for all you do.

Important update: Late Monday night, we got a call informing us that Lauren Valle, a MoveOn supporter, was attacked by campaign volunteers for Rand Paul, the Republican Senate candidate in Kentucky. The video is pretty awful: Three men threw Lauren to the ground, held her down, and stomped on her head and neck. She ended up in the hospital with a concussion. She’s still recovering, but she’s already speaking out about what happened—and pressing charges against her attackers, at least one of whom is so unrepentant he just demanded an apology from Lauren.

This is upsetting and outrageous and fundamentally anti-democratic. What’s worse, it’s part of a growing pattern of right-wing violence and intimidation, fueled by violent rhetoric from Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, Sharron Angle, and others.

Here’s the thing, folks: we can’t let this intimidate us or derail us (which is the intent, after all). Instead, let’s work even harder over the next week to defeat the candidates that are stirring up hate. Lauren’s not stopping, and we won’t either.

If you want to make a contribution in Lauren’s name to support Jack Conway (the MoveOn-endorsed Democrat she was trying to help when she was attacked), click here:

Breaking Poll Numbers

There are just hours left before our most critical deadline of the election. The amount of money in the bank tonight determines tomorrow’s television spending — this is the FINAL time we can make adjustments to our ad buy for the final week.

I have met with the staff here at headquarters. They have showed me promising early vote and new developing poll numbers including some critical surges for some of our challengers, and a continued list of neck and neck polls where additional television time could be the push we need to victory.

I want to spend in more races tomorrow, but I can’t without your help tonight. Everything is on the line and we are just $21,699 away from our goal. Please contribute $5, $10 or more right now to make sure tomorrow’s spending has the largest impact.

Will you join us? If you do, a group of generous Democrats who are committed to retaining our Majority will match all online gifts tonight with two dollars of their own. Please contribute now.

Our Majority can hold strong in the face of the onslaught of special interest spending and Sarah Palin and her tea party express — but not without these last minute resources. Thank you for all that you do.

Onward to Victory,

Chris Van Hollen

DCCC Chairman

P.S. Our field operation is the most impressive a midterm election has ever implemented — and we can see it already as early voting is showing promising results. Our path to victory is clear but I need you with me every step of the way. If you have already given, thank you, but I need you to give again. If you have not given, this is no time to sit on the sidelines, please give as generously as you can tonight.

What does waffling look like? VIDEO …a message from Rep.Barney Frank

Barney Frank for Congress 2010

My opponent, who is now raising tens of thousands of dollars a day through his appearances on right-wing radio and television, and thanks to his endorsement by Sarah Palin, has offered a textbook case of waffling.  The subject is Roe v. Wade.

For those who wish to see waffling in its barest form, you can watch the four-minute video here.  For those who prefer straight talk on this issue, please consider contributing to my campaign.

Here is a partial transcript of the back-and-forth between my opponent, Sean Bielat, and the editorial board of the Gatehouse newspapers:

BIELAT: “Roe v. Wade has been in effect since before I was born so it’s a moot point.”

EDITOR: “So do you choose to answer the question.”

BIELAT:  “I think I did answer.”

EDITOR: “But we’re looking for your personal view.  Or do you pass?

BIELAT:  [SILENCE]

See the entire video for more dodging and squirming.  In terms of waffling, it is a textbook case.

Because of my opponent’s stand on this issue, he has won the endorsement of an anti-choice organization, which is spending considerable money this election in an effort to defeat me.

If you would like someone in Congress who speaks frankly about this and many other issues, I would be grateful for your generous contribution to my campaign.

Barney Frank
