Sheldon Whitehouse OceansPac & Climate Change

Join Sheldon Whitehouse‘s fight to elect candidates who support oceans and environmental issues.

OceansPAC

Dear Carmen,

Today, I’m launching a new website — OC‌EANSPAC.com — to help take the fight against climate change to the next level.

Every single week the Senate is in session, I go to the Senate floor to urge my colleagues to take action to protect our planet and future generations. But while I’ve been leading the charge to wake Congress up to climate change, I need more colleagues who are willing to join me in taking on the toughest climate change fights — and we haven’t a moment to waste.

That’s why I created OCEANS PAC — because candidates who support oceans and environmental issues need our support. And as one of my strongest supporters, I want to invite you to join me today.

I need your help to make sure we get OCEANS PAC off to a strong start. We need the resources to support our candidates, grow this community, and elect more climate change champions to Congress in the future!

Will you help kick off OCEANS PAC by donating $5 today?

Help kick off OCEANS PAC! Donate today.

With the help of growing public support and people like you, we’re making progress towards addressing one of the most pressing issues of our time — but more work needs to be done.

Indeed, the other side is funded by big polluters who don’t hesitate to put millions of dollars behind their lies. OCEANS PAC is one way we can fight back.

And fight we must, because climate change is not a problem that will go away. For Congress to wake up, it needs more members who will support ocean and environmental issues.

Will you help kick off OCEANS PAC with a $5 donation to support climate candidates and fight against climate change?

OCEANS PAC supported the election of climate change champion Ed Markey in Massachusetts. Now, we have to help our allies facing tough races in 2014, like Al Franken in Minnesota.

We’re launching OCE‌ANSPAC.com today to help these strong candidates get the resources they need to win tight races, and to fight back against climate change deniers.

But I can’t do this alone. There are high stakes involved, and I need your help. I hope you will accompany me on this new journey, and that I can count on your enthusiastic support as we go forward.

Help kick-off OCEANS PAC with a $5 donation to support climate candidates and fight against climate change today.

Thanks for all you do,

Sheldon Whitehouse                     U.S. Senator

Midwest Values PAC

Imagine a cold January morning in 2013. Your robot butler gently awakens you with a mug of steaming hot moon coffee, and you slip on your virtual reality glasses to scan the news before hopping in your hovercar to work. And as you telekinetically switch over to C-SPAN, you see — in ultra-high definition — a whole new wave of progressive fighters leading the charge in the U.S. Senate.
Okay, so I may be a little ambitious about the new technology that might come out between now and next January. But the “new wave of progressive fighters” thing? That’s totally doable.
Elizabeth Warren. Tammy Baldwin. Martin Heinrich. Chris Murphy. Mazie Hirono. All these great leaders and more could join Sherrod Brown, Sheldon Whitehouse, and me in the Senate next year.
And your support of Midwest Values PAC can help make it happen! Click here to make one last contribution this year so we can do even more for even more great progressives around the country.
Already this year, grassroots support of MVP has made it possible for us to stand with more than a dozen great candidates for the U.S. Senate — as well as outstanding House candidates like Tammy Duckworth and Christie Vilsack.
And, just to be clear, by “stand with,” I mean “give money to.” Money that’s already helping these candidates get their message out and build the kind of people-powered grassroots organizations that win elections.
But the more progressives we can stand with (give money to), the bigger an impact we can have when the next Congress starts in January. And we don’t have much time. The contribution you make to MVP right now could be in the hands of a deserving progressive candidate within days, and deployed as part of their final push not long after that.
So act fast. In fact, act now. And, as always, by “act,” I mean give money. Click here to help Midwest Values PAC help great progressives in the final days of the campaign.
I’m so excited about all the incredible things we could do with all those great progressives standing together in the Senate. And I hope you’re ready to stand with Midwest Values PAC to make it happen.
Thanks,

Al
P.S.: And, holy cow, Rich Carmona! A new poll just came out showing him ahead! In Arizona! This is more exciting than a thousand robot butlers. Click here to help us help more Democrats win!

“Over the last few years, Rhode Islanders have shown tremendous perseverance through some very difficult times. The courage of good people all across our state inspires me every day.
This video tells the story of a few individuals who have overcome so much to keep jobs in our state, hold on to their homes, deal with difficult health issues and to earn the Medicare and Social Security they depend on today. They represent the struggles and concerns of so many Rhode Islanders.
It’s stories like these that make me fight so hard for the things that matter most to our middle class families in the Senate,” U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse.

Sen. Whitehouse BLASTS right wing Cato “expert”

Last week, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) showed why he’s a national progressive rising star.

At a hearing on overturning Citizens United, Sen. Whitehouse faced an “expert” from the right-wing Cato Institute who advocated more anonymous campaign spending by corporations and billionaires. Whitehouse took him “to the proverbial woodshed,” according to one news site.

Sen. Whitehouse blasts right-wing Cato

At the hearing, the Cato “expert” said there should be no limits on campaign contributions — and only donations over $500,000 should be disclosed because the Koch brothers and other billionaires deserve their privacy!

Sen. Whitehouse showed that he isn’t afraid of a fight. He asked tough questions, made the Cato guy seem completely foolish, and received applause from the audience. Watch it happen here — and join the fight to Take Back Democracy!

Thanks for being a bold progressive.

Their Fair Share by the Numbers …Joan Entmacher, National Women’s Law Center

Tired of fighting cuts to programs that women and their families depend on in the name of deficit reduction — while millionaires and billionaires haven’t been asked to contribute an extra penny? Think it’s time for millionaires and billionaires who pay lower tax rates than many middle-class Americans to start paying their fair share?

Take Action: Tell your Senators to support the Paying a Fair Share Act of 2012!   WWW.NWLC.ORG

On April 16, we expect the Senate to vote on an important piece of legislation, the Paying a Fair Share Act of 2012 (S. 2230). The bill would ensure that those with incomes over $1 million annually pay at least 30 percent of their income in federal taxes. The legislation, introduced by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, was inspired by billionaire investor Warren Buffett, who highlighted the unfairness of a tax system that permits him to pay a lower tax rate than his secretary.

It’s time for this absurdity to stop. We can’t afford to continue lavish tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans. To help demonstrate the real cost of tax breaks for millionaires, we’ve put together a new infographic:

That’s right. This year, the average millionaire gets a tax break of $143,000 — enough to support child care assistance for 24 children, Pell Grants to 37 college students, or a home-delivered meal each day for 249 seniors.

This is a tradeoff we can’t afford to make any longer. Please share our infographic today and urge your Senators to support the Paying a Fair Share Act of 2012!

Sincerely,

Joan Entmacher Vice President,
