But this year, the GOP-controlled House passed the Ryan Plan, which would have gutted Pell Grants by an average of $830 per student. I fought hard to make sure that the Senate prevented these cuts from becoming law and I’m glad to say we won…that round. I know it won’t be the last time the GOP tries to put Pell Grants or affordable education on the chopping block. In fact, just this summer it took a massive outcry of public support to convince the GOP to stop student loan rates from doubling.”
