Take Action Today: Urge Congress to Support the International Affairs Budget – CARE

On February 13, President Obama released his FY2013 budget, which includes $56.2 billion for international affairs. Such resources demonstrate his strong commitment to supporting development and humanitarian programs that help fight global poverty.

Today for International Women’s Day, some of CARE‘s leading advocates are on Capitol Hill meeting with their policymakers and raising their voices in support of the International Affairs Budget, which has a very real impact on the lives of women and men with whom CARE works.

Will you join them? As Congress begins the process of deliberating the President’s request, they need to hear your voice. Please contact your representatives and senators TODAY — you can help make a difference.

The International Affairs Budget is a strategic, cost-effective investment that helps tackle the root causes of poverty and helps us respond to humanitarian crises. It represents a practical and smart investment in building a prosperous, stable and secure world. Only one percent of the total budget is for foreign assistance; truly a small investment that yields big returns for our nation and the world.

We need to act now to show our policymakers that Americans support these critical programs. Urge your members of Congress to support the International Affairs Budget now!

Sincerely,

President and CEO,

You helped to extend the payroll tax cut

Good afternoon–This week, thousands of folks have shared how $40 less in every paycheck would affect them if Congress didn’t extend the payroll tax cut for 160 million Americans. And it worked. This afternoon, lawmakers got this done. The President will sign that bill into law next week, and we’ve already invited some of the folks who shared their stories to come to the White Housewhen he does. The past few days have been a constant reminder of how incredible it can be when people from all walks of life join together to speak out. On Tuesday, we sat down with another group of Americans who added their voices to the debate, and they recorded a message just for you. It’s a powerful thing to watch.

There will be other fights in the weeks and the months ahead when the kind of engagement they’re talking about in this video could make all the difference. So check it out, then pass it along to anyone who is skeptical that real people can’t have an impact:

a message from Nancy Pelosi – Help us gather 50,000 signatures before Congress heads home today !

We almost couldn’t believe it. Today, at a House Oversight Committee hearing, House Republicans convened a panel on denying access to birth control converge with five men and no women. As my colleague Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney asked, where are the women?

Join me in our call to Speaker Boehner, Eric Cantor, Chairman Issa and all House Republicans to demand that women be brought to the table when discussing women’s health issues. Help us gather 50,000 signatures before Congress heads home tomorrow.

Thank you for standing up for what’s right and joining our fight.

Best,
Nancy Pelosi

Contribute now to the Women’s Health Rapid Response Fund

This is just unconscionable: Republicans in Congress are trying to make it legal for ANY employer to deny birth control coverage to their employees.

Yes, you read that right. Republicans are on track to give corporations the power to deny women access to health care.

The vote is set for this week — we must act IMMEDIATELY.

We must raise $50,000 by midnight tonight to get activists mobilized and ads up and running in Republican districts about this atrocious assault on women’s health care.

Will you contribute $3 or more right now to our urgent Women’s Health Rapid Response Fund?

We can’t afford to fall short and delay taking action for another day. Women across the country deserve to know that right-wing Republicans intend to take women’s health care back to the dark ages. Please give what you can today.
