The path to success is to take massive, determined action

Earth Day Network VOTE
Earth Day Network needs your help and we need it soon. If we can’t raise $10,000for voter registration efforts in Pennsylvania and Arizona in the next two days, our grassroots work in those states will have to stop.
Through Campaigns for Communities we have been working for years to improve voter turnout in our great, but imperfect, democracy. Right now, this effort is focused on Pennsylvania and Arizona where people are on the ground doing everything they can to get people-particularly those whose voices typically aren’t heard-registered to vote.
Unfortunately, we’re almost completely out of time. Registration deadlines are quickly approaching this week in many states, so we need your help immediately. The stakes are high in this close election and every vote will be significant. Furthermore, issues that are critical to EDNs mission-such as climate change, reforestation, and endangered species-are on the ballot.
In recent years, we’ve begun to see the power of “one person-one vote” diminish due to the influence of special interests. We can’t let our democracy be taken from us. So please, support us in helping to empower people and strengthen our democracy.
Anything less than $10,000 means that we have to end our voter registration efforts in these states and leave. We only have until Wednesday and the countdown begins now.
Also, if you haven’t done so already, click here to register yourself to vote.

Wednesday in Vancouver — Help stop Trump! Joseph Huff Hannon – Avaaz

Dear friends in Vancouver and the Northwest,

This Wednesday, Avaazers are hitting the streets of Vancouver in a giant “Stop Trump” bus to let Americans across Canada know that it’s essential they register and vote.

We’ve already pulled off head-line grabbing stunts in London, Berlin, and Mexico City. Now we’re bringing our call to Vancouver, and we need everyone to join in to show how much Canada cares about keeping Donald Trump out of power!

Join the Vancouver Event
There are millions of Americans living abroad — up to one million of them in Canada, and close to 200,000 live around Vancouver! Many of them are globalist thinkers, who could stop Trump from taking over the White House… but only 12% vote. We can reach all of them with an urgent call to register and vote with a fun stunt that gets media attention. News crews have already been invited, and will be showing up.

There will be music, flags, food, and great people — and we need every possible Avaaz member there. If you’re American, come register for your overseas ballot! If you’re not, join us and help reach out to as many Americans as possible.

We don’t have much time — Click to let us know if you’re coming and invite all your friends!

Join the Vancouver Event
Hope to see you then,

Joseph and the whole team at Avaaz

P.S. If you’re an American citizen and you’d be up for talking to the media on the day, send a short email to will@avaaz.org

Fight Flu!  Get a Flu Vaccine!

Flu season is around the corner! Protect yourself and your family this season with an annual flu vaccine for everyone in your family who is 6 months and older. While the timing of flu season is unpredictable, seasonal flu activity can begin as early as October and last as late as May. CDC recommends that people get vaccinated by the end of October, if possible.  It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body that protect against influenza virus infection.Learn More >>

Don’t Wait!  Communicate!

If a disaster strikes when you are away from your family or loved ones, how will you get in touch with them? Communication networks, such as mobile phones and computers, could be unreliable during disasters, and the power could go out. Planning in advance will help ensure that all the members of your household—including children and people with disabilities and others with access and functional needs, as well as outside caregivers—know how to reach each other and where to meet up in an emergency.  Learn More >>

BARDA awards funding to speed development of Zika vaccine

BARDA is transitioning the advanced development of an inactivated Zika vaccine from U.S. Government-led program to industry partner. Inactivated vaccines are often more stable than live vaccines and some have shown to be safe and effective when given to special populations including people with immunocompromised conditions and pregnant women. If approved, this vaccine could help prevent the birth defects that are associated with Zika. Learn More >>
