The stakes of this November’s elections couldn’t be higher. Now that Trump has nominated right-wing ideologue Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, everything we’ve fought for is at risk. And on issue after issue, the real battle isn’t happening in Congress, it’s happening in state legislatures and capitols across the country.
Unless we elect more Democratic governors this year, Trump and the GOP will have unchecked power to roll back our rights. That’s why we need your help, but first let’s talk about what is really at stake:
ABORTION: The battle to protect a woman’s right to choose is in the states. While Republicans push ever more draconian restrictions on women’s health, Democratic governors like Kate Brown, Gina Raimondo and I have worked to enshrine Roe in state law to protect access to safe, legal abortion no matter what.
VOTING RIGHTS: From discriminatory voter ID laws to extreme gerrymandering, Republicans are working to keep people from exercising their right to vote. But Democratic governors are pushing to expand voting rights, passing automatic voter registration in states like New Jersey and Washington.
HEALTH CARE: While Republicans work to rip health care from people who need it in places like Kentucky, Democratic governors like Ralph Northam are fighting to expand access to affordable health insurance.
LGBTQ RIGHTS: From Mike Pence’s attempt to legalize discrimination against LGBTQ people in Indiana to the bigoted HB2 legislation in North Carolina, Republicans are pushing for bills that discriminate against LGBTQ Americans. Democratic governors are fighting back to ensure equality for LGBTQ people.
ENVIRONMENT: Republicans continue to ignore the reality of climate change and gut regulations that protect our health and our environment. But as governor of Washington, I’m working every day to protect the environment and build a clean energy economy.
If we want to stop Trump and the GOP from dragging our country backward decades, we have to win governors’ races. It’s just that simple. With 36 governors’ races happening this November, we have an unprecedented chance to turn red states blue and stop Trump’s agenda in its tracks – but it won’t happen without your help.
That’s why I’m asking you to give whatever you can spare to help us elect Democratic governors in every corner of this country. We need another 251 donations by midnight to win these races and stop Trump.
