Dear friends,

Very few had heard of Rwanda, until 800,000 people were dead. And right now in Burma, the Rohingya community is being hunted down by rampaging bands of soldiers hellbent on murder.

It’s sickening. They’re even beheading tiny children.

But here’s the craziest thing — the military behind this massacre is supported by countries like Britain, Germany and Italy!

Burma’s generals have spent years building these alliances. Let’s demand our governments end their support until the slaughter is stopped — when our call is huge we’ll take out ads in media at a major global summit in a few days!

Cut support to Burma’s butchers

Governments around the world have engaged with Burma’s military — hoping to prevent massacres like we’re seeing right now. It’s clear that policy has failed, but they have massive leverage by breaking ties with these butchers!

The Rohingya are a poverty-stricken community who are denied citizenship in Burma, and have been persecuted for years because of their darker skin and different religion. Some have taken up arms and attacked security forces. But this is all out ethnic cleansing — the worst crisis the Rohingya have ever faced. Sign now and share everywhere!

Cut support to Burma’s butchers

We’ve helped the Rohingya before — when thousands fled a previous crackdown and were stranded at sea, our global community donated to support rescue missions to save them. Now they need us again — more than ever. Let’s rise to their call and make sure this isn’t another Rwanda.

With hope,

Bert, Rewan, Ana Sofia, Danny, Ricken and the entire Avaaz team

Withdrawing from the Paris Agreement does not represent the will of the American people.

Tell the 194 Countries Committed to the Paris Agreement that You’re Still In

On June 1, President Donald Trump announced that the United States would withdraw from the Paris Agreement on climate change.

This decision threatens our security, our public health and welfare, our economic prosperity, and our clean energy industry, which supports millions of U.S. jobs. It threatens the air we breathe and the water we drink. It threatens our ecosystems and disproportionately affects the most vulnerable people on our planet.

Withdrawing from the Paris Agreement does not represent the will of the American people.

There is something you can do.

Governors, mayors, businesses, investors, and universities across the country have started collaborating as never before to work toward the goals of the Paris Agreement. They’re still in, and we are, too.

The American People Support the Paris Agreement

We, the undersigned people of the United States, will continue to support climate action to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.

I commit to:

  1. Reduce my own carbon emissions and do what I can through everyday actions such as taking public transportation or carpooling, making my home more energy efficient, switching my home electricity to renewable sources, and limiting food waste.
  2. Support U.S. states, cities, businesses, investors, universities, and other entities taking strong climate action and showing the world that the United States is still working to fulfill the Paris Agreement – and call on others to join them.
  3. Urge President Trump to keep the United States in the Paris Agreement and protect federal safeguards for our health and environment from regulatory rollbacks and budget cuts.
  4. Call on Congress to hold polluters accountable and oppose any efforts to weaken the environmental protections and climate policies that protect our health and well-being.

The people of the United States remain dedicated to creating a just, clean energy future. Together, we will protect the prosperity, security, and health and welfare of our country and the planet.

There can never be smoke without fire ~ Rainforests Burn Every Year — Intentionally Set Fires

Citizens of Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore wake up every morning during the rainforest burning season, look out

their windows, and see the the haze. As they drive their kids to school, they can barely see the next car. The young and the infirm in their family struggle to breathe.

This smoke comes from fires set several thousands of miles away. The fires are so huge, smoke spreads millions of square miles across South East Asia. Studies indicate that as many as 100,000 people die, every year, from the toxic haze created during Indonesia’s man-made, rainforest burning season.

If that wasn’t bad enough, this toxic smoke also accelerates climate change.

Every year, these fires are set intentionally in Indonesian rainforests to quickly clear land for industrial plantations that grow Conflict Palm Oil. These fires release more CO2 than all emissions from the United States combined. If we want to stop the increasing incidents of extreme weather events, or halt the accelerating refugee crises due to droughts and famines, then we need to stop the destructive production of Conflict Palm Oil now.

RAN’s strategy is clear: We go after the biggest corporations which are responsible for this climate and forest destruction. When the largest companies within a sector are forced to change their policy, smaller companies follow suit — thus shifting the entire industry. That is why we are shaming and blaming PepsiCo’s CEO Indra Nooyi at every public event at which she speaks. We know she and PepsiCo have a massive impact on the palm oil market. And we know they will buckle soon, like several other major brands have in our 30 year history. We have been called one of the most radical organizations because we go after the biggest targets. But that’s also why we are one of the most effective organizations doing this work.

In this crucial time of our campaign against Conflict Palm Oil we need your support to keep this work going. Any size donation, made today, can help us ensure the future of our children, our planet, and all of the biodiversity we love so much.

For people and planet
