Making America polluted again – Earthjustice Newsletter

Our border communities need funding for schools, job training and environmental clean-up, not a divisive wall. (Christopher Penler/Shutterstock)The hidden costs of a border wall
Waterways and endangered species migration paths severed, millions of tons of greenhouse gases emitted, billions of dollars lost, and communities torn in two. And no one will be safer for it.

Earthjustice

“We are digging a big hole in front of our door and one day, not us, but our children, will fall into it.”

— New Orleans East resident Anthony Tran speaking out at a community meeting where he urged city officials to reject a plan to build a power plant in his neighborhood, which has some of the highest rates of ground subsidence in the city. Earthjustice is representing the Alliance for Affordable Energy in the case to halt a project that promises to bring toxic air pollution and greater flood risks.

HOW CAN YOU HELP

Protect your rights to transparency and involvement
The National Environmental Policy Act is an empowering legal tool that allows communities to defend themselves and their environment from dangerous, rushed or poorly planned federal or industry projects. Now our oldest environmental law is at risk of being gutted by polluter interests and their allies in Congress.

Protect our national monuments
A law that allows presidents to designate national monuments is under attack and there are threats to overturn monument designations, opening these lands up to drilling, logging, and mining.

Media Matters for America - Take Action

Beyond the notable Media Matters work below, here are some other things I’ve read this week: Peter Beinart on how a far-right conspiracy theorist found a captive audience in Trump’s White House, Megha Rajagopalan on targeting of Asian Muslims by internet trolls and fake news, Nona Willis Aronowitz on misogynists in sheep’s clothing, and Alexandra Petri on Trump’s budget.

Trump and Fox & Friends caused an international incident

It is now confirmed: Fox News analyst Andrew Napolitano got a British intelligence conspiracy theory from Russian state media. The connection was apparent days ago, before Sean Spicer repeated the absurd accusation against President Obama in the White House briefing room. Fox anchor Shep Smith made very clear that Fox News does not stand behind Napolitano’s claim. Napolitano is a 9/11 truther and Trump favorite who has called into Alex Jones’ show. Trump’s endless consumption and embrace of Fox News has now caused an international incident.

Hate is still bad for business

Breitbart has the same problem that Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh have had: Advertisers despise hate. So far, 1,500 companies have dropped the far right outlet as a result of an online campaign.

trump admin & republicans V social services for our society

just another rant …

Meals on Wheels

When will question his intentions! cutting what they think are like and other community programs … So, i decided to call at least what folks have labelled as #trumpsupporters voters etc. There must be some that are using the program Meals On Wheels or have parents friends with parents or grandparents who will be negatively impacted by this awful decision

I hope that #trumpstates will be interested in finding out what the sum total of folks getting #MealsOnWheels in Ohio, Maine, Iowa, Indiana, Tennessee and Michigan or approximately and how folks working for or getting meals feel about hearing republicans like WhiteHouse budget chief #Mulvaney’s plan on cutting social programs or”entitlements” including programs like #HeadStart and Meals on Wheels in our country?
