Orange and Black : gets another season

I ~~ just recently heard about the online show from some folks I know online. I did not get the plot line but there were many sides being taken for some of the characters on the show like Piper, Red, Larry, Daya, Vee and more. Then Saturday morning MPH had some of the cast on her show giving me as well as viewers a better idea and glimpse into the world of those on the other side of the plexiglass for women in lock up. The incarcerated and living what looks like … out loud, intense and worrisome for a couple of the inmate’s flows with great comedic flair. However, if you break it down the realities are quite different. Laverne Cox , who is and plays a transgendered female on the show pulls back the curtain on her life as a black man and the liabilities against the juxtaposition of being a transgendered female in lock up no less with all the complications the relationships and the anxiety of living life, let alone in lock up. Yet, it does look like living loving locked up and out loud seems to have gotten this great cast a 2nd Season. So, I am watching MH/ msnbc and find out that the show Orange is the new Black is based on the book and real life story about life in prison for 15 months of and by Piper Kerman ~~ you should get the book too!

I say check it out. I am not sure how it helps get folks who are 50% or more likely to be in lock up in a funny mood … just saying

The Senate stands adjourned until 9:30am on Thursday, November 14, 2013.

Following any Leader remarks, the Senate will be in a period of morning business for two hours with the Republicans controlling the first half and the Majority controlling the final half.

Following morning business, the Senate will proceed to vote on adoption of the motion to proceed to H.R.3402, the Pharmaceutical Drug Compounding bill. A voice vote is expected on the motion to proceed to the bill.

The Senate will recess from 1:00pm until 2:15pm to allow for caucus meetings.

Following morning business, the Senate adopted the motion to H.R.3204, Drug Quality and Security Act, and Senator Reid filled the amendment tree with date change amendments.

Senator Reid then filed cloture motions on the following items:

– Executive Calendar #381, the nomination of Robert Leon Wilkins, of the District of Columbia, to be United States Circuit Judge for the District of Columbia Circuit;

– H.R.3204, Drug Quality and Security Act; and

– Motion to proceed to S.1197, National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2014.

The Senate stands in recess until 2:15pm. When the Senate resumes session, it will be in a period of morning business until 5:00pm, with senators permitted to speak therein for up to 10 minutes each.

Senator Vitter asked unanimous consent that the only amendment in order to H.R.3204, Drug Quality and Security Act, be the Vitter amendment #2024 (Show Your Exemption Act) and a Democratic alternative; that there be 2 hours for debate prior to votes on the amendments; the amendments be subject to a 60-affirmative vote threshold; and that upon disposition of the Vitter and Democratic amendment, the bill, as amended, if amended, be read a third time and passed.

Senator Reid objected.

Senator Vitter then asked consent that the Senate pass H.R.3204, Drug Quality and Security Act; that the Senate then proceed to the consideration of S.1197, the National Defense Authorization Act; the Vitter amendment, which is at the desk, and a Democratic alternative, be called up and notwithstanding Rule 22, the Vitter and Democratic amendments remain in order, with no second degree amendments in order, and the amendments be subject to a 60-affirmative vote threshold for passage.

Senator Reid objected.

Senator Vitter then asked consent that the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee be discharged from further consideration of S.1629, Show Your Exemption Act. There be 60 minutes for debate equally divided, prior to a vote on passage of the bill. Finally, that the bill be subject to a 60-affirmative vote threshold.

Senator Reid objected.

Demand Justice for Renisha McBride

Renisha McBride was killed while seeking help after a car accident, but the man who shot her has not been arrested or charged with a crime.

Call on Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy and the Dearborn Heights police department to fully investigate Renisha McBride’s killing and bring the shooter to justice.

The tragic killing of unarmed 19-year-old Renisha McBride has left her family and supporters across the country seeking answers and demanding justice. More than a week after Renisha’s death the shooter has not been arrested and he may not face proper prosecution because of Michigan‘s so-called “Stand Your Ground” or “Shoot First” law.¹

Shoot First laws have been under intense scrutiny since the tragic killing of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman – who “got away with murder” – because Florida’s Shoot First prevented a proper investigation and controlled the instructions given to the jury.² These laws, when combined with the daily reality of deep-rooted racial prejudice, create a culture of fear and violence where Renisha McBride — a young Black woman perceived as a threat — can be killed without consequence.

Renisha’s family deserves justice and an end to a culture that does not value Black lives. Please join us in calling on Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy and the Dearborn Heights police department to fully investigate Renisha McBride’s killing and bring the shooter to justice.

Shortly after the news of Renisha’s death broke, local residents of Detroit and nearby areas rallied for justice — condemning racial profiling and violence against women. Demonstrators referred to Dearborn Heights as a “sundown town”, a mostly white suburb outside of Detroit that has a history of being hostile to Black folks.³

Michigan enacted “Stand Your Ground” in 2006 and its law closely resembles Florida’s.⁴ In this case, the law can protect Renisha’s shooter from criminal prosecution if he believes that he was in danger, even if his belief is wrong and rooted in racial bias. But this tragedy and the countless others like it are preventable, if enough of us continue to speak up and demand justice.

Demand that Wayne County Prosecutor and the Dearborn Heights police department fully investigate and bring Renisha’s killer to justice. And when you do, please ask your friends and family to do the same.
