1774 – The new Continental Congress, the governing body of America’s colonies, passed an order proclaiming that all citizens of the colonies “discountenance and discourage all horse racing and all kinds of gaming, cock fighting, exhibitions of shows, plays and other expensive diversions and entertainment.”

Continental Congress, in the period of the American Revolution, the body of delegates who spoke and acted collectively for the people of the colony-states that later became the United States of America. The term most specifically refers to the bodies that met in 1774 and 1775–81 and respectively designated as the First Continental Congress and the Second Continental Congress.

In October 1774 the Congress petitioned the crown for a redress of grievances accumulated since 1763. In an effort to force compliance, it called for a general boycott of British goods and eventual nonexportation of American products, except rice, to Britain or the British West Indies. Its last act was to set a date for another Congress to meet on May 10, 1775, to consider further steps.

Reminder: Ending DACA could cost states billions in GDP ~ reminder

While several groups on both sides of the political aisle have posted how much they believe ending DACA will cost, the trump admin didn’t and still doesn’t seem to care or understand GDP.

As Americans, some of us believe in the lowercase c for capitalism, so the idea that it would cost approximately $290 billion-plus to end DACA and Deport the Dreamers as well seems like an obvious wtf moment. The logical response would seem to be Nah, we can’t afford to do this, so working this ish out in a reasonable bipartisan way seems much saner… right?

So, the demand to end DACA was heard and being pushed worldwide by the now-former and late AG Jeff Sessions in what seemed like an exciting press conference, at least to him. Yet, those who understood the gravity of the decision fought back. It doesn’t take a Rocket Scientist to understand how GDP works and what its ultimate impact is on our economy.  Well, a few civilians get it.

Luckily, the courts stepped in then, but the struggle, the fight, and best efforts for a perfect union continue.

GOP Lawmakers Who Spent July 4 In Moscow | grassrootsdempolitics.com

The Month of July is almost over, and we still have no idea why at least if not more than 8 Americans who live, trade, and invest …using taxpayer money would do this … shouldn’t there be some sort of hearing … AND who paid for this trip, how many trips, and why were they there on the 4th of July?

This has been swept under a dirty rug … please ask your members or Congress to clarify what this group of GOP was doing in Russia on July 4, 2018

A message from Color of Change

Fidelity is hoping nobody notices that it cut off funding for the Southern Poverty Law Center, the organization that helped bankrupt the Klan. Today, we’re making sure its own customers do.

As Fidelity donors gather in Rhode Island for a philanthropy convening starting TODAY, Color of Change hired a mobile billboard to circle the venue as participants come and go.

At the same time, we launched digital ads targeting its donors with a simple question: why is Fidelity doing Trump’s bidding and blocking donors like you from supporting SPLC?

Here’s why Fidelity is our target. After Trump’s Justice Department indicted SPLC in a politically motivated attack this April, Fidelity moved first to block its donors from sending money to the organization through their donor-advised funds (DAFs).

Vanguard Charitable, DAFgiving360, Goldman Sachs Gives, Thrivent Financial, and Benevity followed. But other donor-advised fund sponsors have not cut SPLC off. Fidelity made a choice, and with SPLC’s trial delayed until next year, that choice takes that funding away for more than a year.

This is Fidelity doing Trump’s bidding by blacklisting organizations daring to challenge white supremacy. And if it gets away with it, SPLC won’t be the last organization targeted.

More than 50,000 of you have signed our petition demanding Fidelity reverse course. We organized thousands of the financial giant’s own customers to send letters and call it out over social media.
