“Navy to deafen 15,900 whales and dolphins and kill 1,800 more” petition … By Lyndia Storey

The Navy is required to include comments on their Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) re: the use of high frequency underwater sound for testing in Hawaii, the California and Atlantic Coasts, and the Gulf of Mexico. According to their estimates it will deafen more than 15,900 whales and dolphins and kill 1,800 more over the next 5 years. Whales and dolphins depend on sound to navigate and live. Your signature and comment will have to be included in the EIS and could stop this Naval program, potentially saving the lives of these ocean creatures.

The comments must be in by July 10, 2012.

So I created a petition to U.S. Navy EIS Comments, which says:

Stop the killing of 1,800 whales and dolphins and the deafening of 15,900 more by ceasing the operation of the Navy’s underwater sound system in the Hawaiian Islands, the California and Atlantic Coasts, and the Gulf of Mexico.

Happy 4th

The 4th of July … for many, is just another day; some use it to contemplate on what Independence Day means personally, some partake in public services while others are thinking about war and the intent for independence and the power that it gives.

I admit sometimes it feels like our independence is being compromised every time the Republicans fail to do the right thing for our fellow Americans each day they convene on the floor of Congress.

I grew up in military country; know people who have proudly served, died, live and some who came back damaged. Therefore, I think about how war affects our independence and the unimaginable unthinkable things our Soldiers see and go through, having had a brother who suffered through his own journey of strife; it can only be seen as a daily dose of hell. Unless you are a part of the Military, you can only imagine what the family’s experience, but we civilians definitely should be aware and be grateful for their sacrifices

So, as we all celebrate our own style of independence give a shout out to those you know, love and miss who serve and protect us.

Stand with the Arctic

Jun 28, 2012 by

The Inupiat people have relied on the bounty of the Arctic Ocean for thousands of years. The ocean is their garden. Today, they continue to live in harmony with polar bears, bowhead and beluga whales, seals, sea birds and walrus. But Shell‘s plans to drill for oil in the pristine Arctic Ocean threaten their way of life.

On Thursday evening, July 12, people across the country and across America‘s Arctic will gather in solidarity at Stand with the Arctic Vigils. Will you join us?

Is this the best Greenpeace video ever?

We’ve teamed up with Radiohead and actor Jude Law to make what could be the best Greenpeace video ever.
The message in the video is clear: We have to act now if we hope to save the Arctic and the polar bears that call it home. Take a minute to watch it yourself and then spread the message by sharing it with your friends and family.

Watch the Video! (click here to watch the video)

Oil companies are using melting sea ice to drill for more of the oil that is causing global warming in the first place. In fact, Shell’s Arctic fleet will be arriving any day now to begin exploratory drilling off the coast of Alaska this summer. That’s just madness. It’s time for us to take back sanity from those who have lost the plot.
We have to spread the word about saving the Arctic before it’s too late. This video can help, because when people find out about this scandal they act.
Click here to watch and then share it with your friends and family.
Already seen the video? Great! Click here to share it directly on Facebook to make sure others do too.
