Popeyes: Tell Popeyes Chicken: End the Cruelty Now
Sign the petition
Popeyes has been cooking up something terrifying.

Though Popeyes claims the chickens they source are subjected to “ethical, humane treatment,” the truth is much scarier…and it all starts on a factory farm.

Chickens raised for meat make up 95% of farmed animals in America—and because of cruel farming practices, they suffer more, too.

The vast majority of factory farmed chickens spend their entire lives with no access to the outdoors, crowded by the thousands in dimly-lit sheds. The birds have no access to natural light and little room to roam—in fact, each chicken generally spends her life in a space roughly the size of a sheet of paper.

But here’s the really frightening part: factory farming has turned the modern chicken into a genetic monster who grows so big, so fast, she often struggles to stand under her own massive weight—a real-life Frankenchicken. She’s a prisoner of her own body, often unable to move freely and vulnerable to heart, lung, and leg problems.

This is a bird bred to suffer.

There are billions of Frankenchickens just like her—and Popeyes is supporting the cruel practices that bring them to life. You can stop this.

It’s time for Popeyes to end the horror show by committing to a better breed of bird, one whose genetics do not inherently cause suffering, and better living conditions that let chickens be chickens.

Sign the petition to tell Popeyes you don’t support the Frankenchicken.

Other restaurants like Subway, Burger King, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Panera, Chipotle, Qdoba, Jack in the Box, and more have already committed to improving the lives of chickens.

Join Compassion in World Farming in demanding that Popeyes raise the bar for chickens—sign this petition today and help spread the word by sharing it with friends and family.

Because chickens deserve better than a factory farm.

Us and Them: Affected Peoples vs. Chevron in Canada ~ by Amazon Watch

The latest chapter in the decades-long struggle seeking justice for Chevron’s crimes in Ecuador is taking place in Canada right now. Unfortunately, as the years grind by the issues being debated get further and further away from the substantive problems of environmental contamination and human suffering, and the process becomes stuck in a legal quicksand of Chevron’s design. The hearings before the Ontario Court of Appeals this week were a perfect example of that.

Amazon Watch continues to bear witness to this ongoing perversion of justice, both because we ourselves are a target of Chevron’s attacks, and also because the cynical strategy the oil giant employs is a real and present danger to corporate accountability work everywhere. For that reason we attended the hearings in Toronto this week along with artist and activist Roger Waters, founding member of Pink Floyd. Waters spoke to the media to express his outrage at Chevron’s endless legal maneuvers to escape justice for its crimes.

“It’s a fundamental question of whether corporations like Chevron … should be allowed to use their financial muscle to destroy people with an absolutely vital claim to reparations for damages that were caused to them over many years,” Waters said before the hearing. “The way Chevron has behaved here is against everything that any of us might believe society ought to be like.”

a message from James Petty ~ Make Mike Pence Pay Back The Money He Wasted

James Petty just started a petition to House Oversight Committee demanding they

“Make Pence Pay The Money He Wasted Targeting Black Athletes Back”

Black people pay taxes too, we shouldn't have our money used to deny our rights!

Dear Friends

I just started a petition to the House Oversight Committee demanding they Make Pence Pay The Money He Wasted Targeting Black Athletes Back

On Sunday, Mike Pence spent an estimated $200,000 American tax dollars to stage a fake protest against athletes who chose to #TakeTheKnee. He flew from Indianapolis to Las Vegas, where the city and state spent thousands providing him security–only to use the game as an opportunity to instigate hatred against Black football players exercising their first amendment rights. The cynicism of this publicity stunt is punctuated by Pence telling his media detail not to move because they wouldn’t be staying at the game, his scheduled flight to California being set before he “protested” players kneeling, and Trump’s tweet where he boasted of setting the entire thing up beforehand directing Mike Pence to walk out of the game. Feigning respect for the military and veterans as his cause, Pence spent thousands of our dollars on a cheap political stunt instead of directing that money towards services that would actually benefit the people who served and need help.

Tell the House Oversight Committee to make Mike Pence pay back the $200K he wasted into the United States Department of Veteran Affairs!

This gross misuse of tax money to target Black players and Black protest falls into a long and deliberate pattern where the very money Black people pay in taxes is then used directly against them. Every dollar spent by Pence on this poorly thought out publicity stunt is one less dollar spent on improving schools, roads, and providing jobs. Every dollar spent on attacking Black protest is a dollar that could have been used to change our criminal justice system or voting system. If Mike Pence wants to demonstrate his love for veterans he would have written a check for the amount he’s wasted grandstanding towards helping Black veterans as they return to the states.

Under Jim Crow, Black tax dollars were used to maintain institutions we couldn’t utilize, now they’re also being used for shameful political attacks too. Make sure the House Oversight Committee acts!

We will no longer allow public money, our money, Black money to be used to oppress Black people. Pence’s trip to Indianapolis was a gross misuse of funds made worse so because the money was used for the express purpose of attacking the First Amendment rights of Black people. The House Oversight Committee should make Mike Pence return every cent to the people, or donate an equal amount towards helping Black veterans.

Join us if you want the House Oversight Committee to make Mike Pence pay the money back now!

Thank you,

James Petty
