Breaking: First campaign rallies of 2012
![]()
Big news: President Obama is hitting the campaign trail.
On Saturday, May 5th, the President and First Lady Michelle Obama are holding the first two public rallies of the campaign in Columbus, Ohio, and Richmond, Virginia. He’ll speak about how far we’ve come, and lay out the very real stakes in this election: Are we going to continue to move forward, rebuilding an economy that’s meant to last, with a growing middle class and more Americans getting a fair shot? Or are we going to go back to the same failed policies that crashed our economy and left too many folks struggling to catch up? That’s the choice.
These kinds of events are one of the hallmarks of this organization. Millions of people first came to know and support candidate Barack Obama in 2007 and 2008 when they met him at rallies and town halls in their communities. We’re now entering the general election of his final campaign — this day should be something pretty special.
The President would like two supporters from across the country and their guests to meet him backstage before he goes on at the first rally. Supporters like you are the core of this campaign — so we’re opening this up to anyone willing to sign up.
What we’re looking at right now is essentially the start of a general election. We’ve all but got our opponent. This is what we’ve been building for since we launched this campaign last April — and we’re ready to go.
I can tell you the President can’t wait to get out there.
You really can’t lose on this one: As part of our mobile community, you’ll be sure to hear about events near you, when the President will be in your area, and other campaign news.
And signing up right now just might land you the chance to meet President Obama backstage before he starts firing folks up.
Want to be there with him? Sign up for text updates — and be automatically entered for you and a guest to meet him backstage:

P.S. — Even if you can’t be there, you’ll still be able see the first rally for yourself. We’ll be streaming the event live on our site. Stay tuned for more information about that.
the Affordable Care Act helps Women and their Families
I bet you get calls, emails, or texts from friends and relatives all the time. But isn’t it nice to get something from them in the mail?
Here’s a way you can put something meaningful in your friends’ mailboxes, in much less time than it takes to sit down and write a letter.
For the Women’s Week of Action, people are sending postcards to their friends and family about some of the ways that the Affordable Care Act helps women.
It won’t cost you a stamp, or a trip to the post office. You can do it all from the site. Just click the link, pick one of three messages that are ready to be plugged into your postcard, enter your friend’s address, and hit send. It takes less than two minutes.
When your friend sees that postcard among their junk mail and bills, they might just smile and feel happy to have gotten some mail from you.
And it’ll get them thinking about how far we’ve come with health reform, and how many women are going to be living healthier lives thanks to having more access to preventive care, or not losing coverage for themselves or their kids because of a pre-existing condition — to name a thing or two.
It’s a small gesture that takes no time at all. But the more people know about what health care reform actually does, the more they care about protecting it.
And if they’re not already involved in this campaign, that postcard will make them think about joining you.
So send some postcards today, and help get the word out on women’s health for the week of action:

Here’s something that President Obama laid out in his State of the Union that I think deserves special attention:
Recent news reports have raised questions about whether members of Congress are profiting from inside information about the very businesses they’re supposed to be regulating — information about pending legislation that could move markets and generate investor profits.
The President offered one simple fix: End insider trading by members of Congress, extending the rules that apply to anyone else whose jobs give them access to sensitive information about businesses.
If you think this simple effort at good government should be a priority during this campaign, it’s up to you to speak out. Say you support the President and spread the word:

P.S. — Here’s the full quote from the State of the Union:
“Send me a bill that bans insider trading by members of Congress; I will sign it tomorrow. Let’s limit any elected official from owning stocks in industries they impact. Let’s make sure people who bundle campaign contributions for Congress can’t lobby Congress, and vice versa — an idea that has bipartisan support, at least outside of Washington.”
