thoughtful Tuesday ….&some News

Today definitely, feels like winter but the 206 should warm up a little by the end of the day. Though reports are that it is 37 across the water here in Seattle and the weather folks say Washington State might see some significant snow this year it is has just started to sunshine once again in the 206. Don’t get me wrong this is nothing compared to what is going on in parts of Phoenix, AZ and hoping everyone is holding on tight, moving to higher ground and or evacuating as soon as possible do not try to wait it out be safe. In other News today, President Obama will be holding a Community College Summit. The big news online is about solar panels, wind and clean energy. I just heard that the White House will be placing solar panels on the roof and they will be in full effect by next spring can we all just say its about time Mr. President. Though the White House did announce they would be getting solar panels the Obama admin has not taken any bids and no companies have been picked as of yet.  I wondered when the Obama admin and family would read my tweet and blogs stressing the need and questioning when they will in fact put up solar panels up… heehee.

In the days ahead people will be getting their ballots in the mail and there may be some early voting opportunities. I cannot stress how  important it is to read your voter pamphlets it is just as important to get your voted counted ..So Vote early for DEMS on Nov. 2nd

i saw a great quote  …

Change will not come if we wait for

some other person or some other time.

We are the ones we’ve been waiting for

We are the change that we seek.

Miscalculations … a message from Speaker Pelosi

28 Days Until the Election

The Republicans think they have won this election. They think you have given up and that you will not show up.

But the truth is — they have underestimated us before, and there is no doubt in my mind that this is their biggest miscalculation of all.

We will retain our Democratic Majority in the House because I have you in this fight. But we can’t wake up on the day after Election Day with regrets.

Thanks to you, we are halfway to our goal to match Republican Leader John Boehner‘s million-dollar pledge to our counterparts. We simply cannot afford to fall behind matching it before Friday’s deadline to send money for ads.

Please join us and contribute $5, $10 or more today and your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar today by House Democrats.

28 Days Until the Election

With so many competitive races, it’s important to remember that every dollar you give today could be the one that helps drive another Democratic campaign to victory. Shadowy front groups funded by GOP special interests are pouring millions into these races. We will never stop fighting to ensure the People’s House remains in the hands of the people.

Reaching this goal in the next four days is critical for our campaigns to get their message out on the airwaves and on the ground. If you have given before and can give again, please dig deep and do so. There has never been a more critical time to give.

We are just $489,491 short of matching his pledge before Friday’s deadline.

Please join us and contribute $5, $10 or more today and your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar today by House Democrats.

Onward to Victory,
Nancy Pelosi

Speaker of the House

P.S. This is one of the most expensive mid-term campaigns in history, and shadowy GOP outside groups are pouring unprecedented amounts of money into these races. I need your immediate support to fully fund our campaigns. Contribute today.

mindful Monday &some News …VOTE DEMS Nov.2nd

President Obama will be holding meetings with the economic recovery board today.

I would like to encourage all those people who have not Registered to Vote to do so before the end of the day because 10-4-10 is the last for anyone living in Washington State. The need to get out the vote in big numbers on Nov.2nd is not just because tea party members are ahead in quite a few races but we are also competing with Corporate $$ and the decision made by The Supreme Court; specifically Justice Roberts has made it possible for  interest groups or Corporations are out spending our Party 7 to 1… incredible and offensive.

This is a pivotal moment, the midterm elections are usually important on the local level but what happens in this years mid-term elections will affect all of our futures in the Democratic Party. We need to get what I call true democrats on the floor of Congress if we are going to achieve that change 53% voted for in 2008. It is my hope that people who are on the fence or those who are frustrated with the Republican Tea Party become educated with what the Democratic party offers and what The Republican Tea Party is doing to us not for us. If you listen to the media rhetoric the message that democrats have to offer gets lost with conservative talking points and poll numbers that clearly are subject to a plus/minus. I watched a political program this weekend and the host stated he had Republicans last week so they would now have the other side’s view, which was fine until he brought on a completely new panel of conservatives to rehash last week and to bash what his democratic guests had to say. The program controlled every aspect of a true political program; where both sides are able to ask questions show their depth of knowledge and allow the other, side to rebut… of course the host did not want that happening right? Anyway, these shows are all too frequent for me and should give anyone pause. It should confirm the idea that most of these candidates on the right cannot perform if or when challenged by a democrat and they play it safe by refusing to talk  because as we all know you could be caught saying, doing and acting out in ways that might ruin your campaign. I would say all you have to do is ask Meg Whitman and Christine O’Donnell, obviously two women who need to just step down and out of running for office because they are not qualified for public office of any kind. The near collapse of our economy and the effect it has had on all Americans should be considered non-partisan issues and worked on as Americans yet the Republican Tea Party chooses to offer no cooperation while using Americans as pawns to get just enough done in Congress to make their constituents happy. If you are concerned about the lack of work being done by the Republican Tea Party or the fact that they have made the choice to block, stall, and Voted No to everything that would have improved the state of our economy. If you voted to bring Americans into the 21st Century but Republicans are against issues like: a woman’s right to choose, 18 years old and definitely our future leader, eligible for military service, believes in better education, better health care for all Americans, wants better policies regarding human rights, believes in equal rights for women and minorities, and making a solid effort to change the way the last administration ruled then make sure you and your family get their ballots in the mail or caravan to the voting booths early.

Please help Rock the Vote by going on-line to register to vote and find out what issues you will be voting on in your specific area that will affect you and your family.

im just sayin

Fatima didn’t have a chance.

Instead of learning how to read and write as a child, she fetched water and herded livestock. At the age of 15, her father forced her to marry. Today, she is the mother of eight children.

Although Fatima and her family struggle to make ends meet, she didn’t see the value of sending her eldest daughter to school. “I told myself that she will get married like me and she does not need education,” Fatima said.

Fatima’s daughter faced the same grim future as herself — forced to live a life that wasn’t on her own terms. When a girl marries young, she usually drops out of school to start a family, but faces a greater chance of dying in childbirth. She’s also less likely to earn enough to support herself and her family and keep them healthy. One generation follows the next, locked in a vicious cycle of poverty.

You can help break this cycle. By making a tax-deductible gift today, you’ll help empower women and girls in the world’s poorest countries to access the education and resources they need to lift themselves and their families out of poverty for good.

Fatima is on her way. She joined a CARE-sponsored women’s group and learned to read and write. A whole new world opened before her eyes, and Fatima realized she had the power to change the course of her daughter’s future. With a basic education, her daughter could chart her own path. Fatima’s daughter is in school today — and she’s learning leadership skills with CARE that will serve her for her entire life.

When you invest in empowering poor women and girls like Fatima and her daughter, they can create a promising future for themselves, their families and their whole communities! Fatima took the first step. Now it’s your turn.

We’ve set an ambitious goal of raising $3 million online between now and December 31, and we invite you to give to CARE today to help us reach it.

Here are examples of how far a gift to CARE can go overseas:

  • $25 can provide a village savings and loan group with start-up materials to help put women and families on the path to financial empowerment
  • $49 can send a girl to school for a year
  • $62 can train a community health worker to provide care and hospital referrals to expectant mothers

As you can see, with the support of people like you, CARE can reach thousands of girls and women. Please give today so that CARE can continue helping women like Fatima who are creating a brighter future for themselves, their families and their communities.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Helene D. Gayle, MD, MPH

Stop this extreme anti-choice bill

Tell Congress to stop restricting the reproductive rights of low-income women.

Sign the Petition

A woman shouldn’t lose her ability to decide if it’s a good time to bring a child into the world just because she is poor – but it’s been happening in the United States for decades.

Unless we speak out, the law that makes this injustice possible could become permanent.

For the past 34 years, the Hyde Amendment has made it extremely difficult for poor and low-income women on Medicaid to finance abortion services and severely limited their right to reproductive healthcare. It has been used to ban the federal government from spending money on abortion with very few exceptions.

The result? More than a million American women have been denied the ability to make their own decisions about bringing a child into the world in the context of their own circumstances and those of their families.

And now, a bill called the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act” is picking up steam in Congress with over 170 co-sponsors. It goes to a new extreme, and seeks to make Hyde permanent while making it even harder for women to find abortion coverage in the private sector.

This is a direct assault on the fundamental rights of poor women and their families. Please write your Members of Congress and tell them to oppose the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act.”

The Hyde Amendment imposes severe financial hardship on poor women. The struggle to raise funds forces many women to delay obtaining services and have later abortions. They might have to forgo basic necessities for their families, or may be forced to carry unwanted pregnancies to term.

Reproductive rights include a woman’s right to make fundamental decisions about her life and family, to access the reproductive health services necessary to protect her health, and to decide whether and when to have children. By restricting access to abortion, the Hyde Amendment violates these fundamental human rights for poor and low-income women in the United States.

Please urge your elected officials in Washington to stand up for the rights of poor and low-income women and reject the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act.” We cannot let the Hyde Amendment’s restrictions become permanent law.

Thanks for taking action,
