For too long, our political process has been dominated by too much money and too much power concentrated in the hands of too few.That’s why Workers’ Voice was created: to build an independent voice for the working and middle class. That voice will be fighting for the 99%—working people joining together to recognize the value of hard work and call for good jobs, a fair economy and to build a strong middle class.
As megamillionaires like Mitt Romney, the Koch brothers and large corporations plan to try and buy the 2012 elections, Workers’ Voice—powered by cutting-edge technology and old-fashioned energy—will activate and energize networks of working families, both online and offline, to come together to organize their friends, family, co-workers and neighbors, and make their voices heard.
As Theresa Brown, a worker from Cooper Tire in Ohio, said this morning at a press conference to launch Workers’ Voice, “It doesn’t matter if you’re in a union or not because we’re all fighting corporate greed and it’s time that we stood up and took this country back because we’re tired of it.”
Susan Baskett, who is from Michigan and unemployed, said, “Politicians aren’t paying attention to, or doing enough, to put people like me back to work. Workers’ Voice will let us connect with other people in similar situations so we can work together to organize our neighborhoods and communities.”
Workers’ Voice represents and fights for all working families—union and nonunion—around political campaigns, legislative issues and holding elected officials accountable. And we hope you’ll be a part of it.
We’ve got so many things we need to focus on right now in the Senate — jobs, boosting the economy, and rebuilding our nation’s roads and bridges.
But the Republicans don’t care about any of that. They’re focused solely on turning back the clock to the 1950s when it comes to women’s rights. And it needs to stop.
Despite our successes stopping the Blunt amendment and a number of other harsh political attacks directed at women, we’re already looking at difficult fights ahead:
In less than a month over 200 elephants have been killed in Cameroon. These poachers are going into the Bouba Ndjida National Park from Chad and killing these protected elephants.
Tell Cameroon that it has to step up to protect its wildlife. »
With Cameroon’s elephant population estimated to be a maximum of 1500 elephants, this recent slaughter is a devastating loss to the population.
Furthermore, these elephants were supposed to be protected: they were in a national park!
Mongabay.com reports that these elephants have been killed for their tusks and that these ivory poachers are Sudanese.
Tell the government of Cameroon that they need to do more to protect their elephants and to put a stop to this atrocious elephant slaughtering. »
Many of us submitted our comments against building a huge coal mine right next to Bryce Canyon National Park. Now, the decision is in the hands of Secretary of the InteriorKen Salazar, and it’s up to us to make sure he understands just how many people are opposed to this plan. Don’t let Bryce Canyon National Park and southern Utah fall victim to a coal mine! »If you’ve ever been to Bryce Canyon, you know it’s sort of like being on Mars. The red rock formations interspersed with trees is like nothing else. We simply can’t lose this area to a massive, dirty coal mine.

Eighty-six million. That’s the number of people who have received at least one preventive health care service without having to pay a deductible or co-pay in the last year. That’s 54 million people with private insurance and over 32 million Medicare recipients who are already benefiting from the health care law.
Who are these people? It’s a mother who didn’t have to pay a co-pay for her last mammogram, a child who received a flu shot without her parents having to pay a deductible, and millions of people like you who had pap smears, prenatal screenings, or diabetes counseling without having to open their wallets. Are you one of the millions of people who have benefited from the new health care law? We want to hear from you — join hundreds of others on our story blog and tell us your story.
The story blog is an open forum where people can upload their photos and write about how the law is helping them. On the story blog we’ve heard from people with children under age 26 who, instead of falling among the uninsured, were able to stay on their parents’ health plan. We’ve heard from people on Medicare who are paying less for prescription medication, saving them from having to choose between buying medicine or groceries. We’ve heard from people who would have bumped up against their insurance company’s lifetime limit for coverage but now, thanks to the new health care law, are able to focus on their illness instead of worrying about medical bills.
And, later this year, even more people will benefit from the health care law. That’s when millions of women will have access to birth control and other preventive care services without paying deductibles or co-pays for the first time.
