From diaper duty to sleepless nights, new parents have enough to worry about. But there’s one thing they shouldn’t have to stress over — paying extra costs for breastfeeding support and supplies.

Do you know someone who’s breastfeeding — or will be soon? Send them our easy-to-use guide on the health care law’s new breastfeeding benefit.

Thanks to the new law, breastfeeding supplies and support are now available in many private insurance plans without costs. Our toolkit will make sure parents can take advantage of this benefit.

With our toolkit, you can get the facts on the breastfeeding support, supplies, and counseling in the health care law and the tools you need to help you get this coverage. The toolkit includes details on how to call insurance companies as well as step-by-step instructions on how to file an appeal if an insurance company denies coverage.

We want to make it easy for parents to get the breastfeeding support they need so they can focus on what’s most important: their families.

Share our easy-to-use resource with the parents in your life.

Breastfeeding benefits both parents and children, reducing the risk of breast and ovarian cancer in adults and asthma, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and leukemia in children. Women who breastfeed have also reported psychological benefits such as close bonding with their infants. And with the health care law, breastfeeding support and supplies have never been more affordable.

Thanks for everything you do to ensure women and their families get comprehensive and affordable health care.

Sincerely,

Judy Waxman Judy Waxman

the FBI and Washington State

NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre testified in Congress last year that we shouldn’t expand the criminal background checks system to cover more gun sales because — he claims — background checks don’t work.[1]Well, we’ve obtained key FBI data that shows more than 40,000 reasons why LaPierre and the NRA are just plain wrong.Since 1998, the federal background check system has blocked 40,976 dangerous people from buying guns in Washington State — including more than 6,000 domestic abusers.

And that’s precisely why we want to expand background checks to cover all gun sales here, including sales between strangers who meet online or at gun shows.

Please help spread the word about this important information on Facebook or on Twitter. Sharing this stat with others will help explain why it’s so important we pass I-594, Washington State’s ballot initiative to expand the state’s background checks law.

40,976 gun sales to dangerous people have been blocked.

If you don’t use Facebook or Twitter, you can still spread the word by forwarding this email to friends and family.

Initiative 594 — on the ballot in Washington this fall — would close loopholes in Washington’s background check law so that a convicted felon or domestic abuser can’t buy a gun at a gun show or on the internet without passing the same quick and easy background check that law abiding citizens do every day at gun dealers throughout the state.

Passing I-594 into law won’t stop all gun violence — but it is the most effective way to make Washington a safer place for our families.

The first step is to make sure our friends, neighbors and family members have the facts about background checks — no matter how hard the NRA’s leadership tries to undermine them. Share the message now: It’s time to close the background check loophole in Washington State.

Progressives

Where do the American people stand on the environment?

  • 62% oppose the subsidies that the federal government gives to oil, gas and coal companies.

Reason-Rupe/ Princeton Survey Research Associates International

  • 65% favor setting stricter emission limits on power plants in order to address climate change.

56% of House Republicans deny the basic science behind climate change.

72 percent of statements about climate change on Fox News were misleading, according to the Union of Concerned Scientists.

The American people aren’t falling for it. The news media may think we’re stupid, but the polls show otherwise.

Ferguson police racially profiled and executed 18-year-old Michael Brown.

Mike Brown #BlackYouthMatter

Tell the DOJ and local officials to hold all officers fully accountable:

Join Us

I am here standing shoulder-to-shoulder in Ferguson, MO with those demanding justice for 18-year-old Michael Brown who was racially profiled and tragically killed by a police officer last week. I came to amplify your voice as well as the voices of the more than 100,000 ColorOfChange members calling for immediate accountability and an end to the deep-seated police misconduct plaguing Ferguson and cities across the country.

Tomorrow, with the world watching, we will march. Show your support by sharing this campaign with your friends and family to pressure federal officials to intervene and ensure real accountability. Justice comes only when we stand up against unlawful police abuse and racially-motivated violence. The time is now.

A lot has happened in the past 24 hours:
•The St. Louis Prosecutor responsible for bringing criminal charges against Michael’s killer defend the inexcusable police brutality of the past five days.1
•Local Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson announced the name of the officer who executed Michael, but officials are now victim blaming in a shameful attempt to distract focus from the police killing.2

We must stay vigilant and continue to push for bold measures that will ensure justice for Michael — a justice which includes long-term systemic reforms to the way our communities are policed.

Thanks and peace,

Rashad
