your health care

Progressive Change Campaign Committee

Good grief. The new House Republican majority has already announced that they will vote to repeal last year’s health care bill. And the vote will happen next week!

Democrats want to offer amendments to save the most popular parts of that bill — keeping kids on their parents’ health care until age 26, ending discrimination against pre-existing conditions, and filling in the prescription drug “doughnut hole” that forces seniors to pay thousands.

But the Tea Party says they won’t allow any amendments — even to protect popular reforms that save lives.

If you or someone you love would be impacted if the reforms listed above were repealed, can you click here to tell us your story?

Yesterday, Adam and I, plus our Capitol Hill director Shaunna Thomas, talked to several Democratic members of Congress — and they are eager to highlight the real stories of people who would be impacted if Republicans had their way. So we’ll share your stories with them.

The House bill will go nowhere in the Democratic Senate, but next week’s debate is a valuable opportunity to show America just how crazy the Tea Party zealots are — and to show Democrats how to start swinging from day one.

If repealing the reforms listed above would impact you, please share your story here.

Please pass this email to others you know who would be impacted by Republican proposals. And thanks for being a bold progressive.

P.S. A recent Associated Press poll showed that by 2 to 1, Americans think last year’s health care law didn’t go far enough — as opposed to thinking it was too much government. So this year, we’ll be pushing Democrats to give Americans a government-run, public, “affordable health insurance option.” But the best way to encourage Democrats to play offense in the future is to help them play good defense next week. That’s where your health care stories come in — click here to tell us yours.

First Test …

One week from today, the new Republican House Majority will attempt to take a giant step backwards for our nation by holding a vote to repeal the health reform law that protects Americans from insurance company abuses.

This is our first test of how grassroots Democrats will respond to the Republicans’ disgraceful attempt to roll back our progress for America’s middle class families. We must hold House Republicans’ feet to the fire for taking government funded health care for themselves while voting to deny it to American families.

That is why we urgently need your support to raise $100,000 in grassroots contributions to hold Republicans accountable before their shameful vote on Wednesday.

Contribute $5, $10 or more today to help us respond to the Republicans’ shameful vote to take away quality, affordable health care from the American people and put insurance companies back in charge.

In the weeks since last November’s election, grassroots Democrats have not missed a beat in our effort to regain the Majority in 2012. Thanks to you, we surpassed our December grassroots goal by raising over $250,000. I cannot thank you enough.

Now we need your continued support to hold Republicans accountable for their misplaced priorities by voting to repeal health care reform rather than focus on creating jobs for America’s middle class. Every dollar you contribute will be used to keep the pressure on Republicans through hard-hitting ads, fact-checks, petition drives, Rapid Response efforts, and so much more.

Contribute $5, $10 or more today to help us respond to the Republicans’ shameful vote to take away quality, affordable health care from the American people and put insurance companies back in charge.

The world is closely watching our commitment to protecting all of our historic progress for America’s middle class families. Let us begin right now by holding the new Republican majority immediately accountable for trying to repeal health care reform.

P.S. We cannot remain silent as Republicans shamefully vote to take away quality affordable health care from the American people. Please urgently contribute before our Wednesday deadline to hold them accountable and send a powerful message of strength to the media.

Make them debate

The Senate is broken. Republicans have perverted its rules so that a 60-vote supermajority is needed to pass virtually anything.

Now we have a chance to reform the Senate rules and get it working for the people again. Last month, all 53 Democratic Senators signed a letter saying they supported rules reform that returned the filibuster to its original form, forcing Senators to hold the floor and talk for hours if they want to block legislation.

Call your Democratic Senators right now and tell them to support rules reform that fixes the filibuster:

Midnight tonight is the final FEC fundraising deadline

This is it!

Midnight tonight is the final FEC fundraising deadline of 2010 and we’re just $8,159 short of our $250,000 fundraising goal.

We need to have a strong showing. The world is watching to see how much we have in our bank account at the end of the year. They’ll view our fundraising total as an indication of our unity and strength and our ability to mount a strong campaign to take back our Majority next year.

Contribute $5, $10 or more before Midnight Tonight and help put us over the top. Beating this goal is so important a group of generous Democrats will match your contribution dollar-for-dollar.

Before they’re even sworn into office, Republican freshmen, including a half-dozen tea party supporters, are cashing in on their new corporate connections. They’re planning big fundraising events in the next couple of weeks where they’ll collect four and five figure checks from many of the same special interest lobbyists who funded vicious attack ads against Democratic candidates.

Democrats rely upon individuals like you for 75% of our fundraising revenue. It’s critical that we not fall behind in these final days of the year, or we’ll spend months playing catch up and Republicans will have a huge head start with their repeal agenda in 2011.

Contribute $5, $10 or more before Midnight Tonight and help put us over the top. Beating this goal is so important a group of generous Democrats will match your contribution dollar-for-dollar.

Thank you for your generous support and commitment to the DCCC. I hope you’re having a wonderful holiday and I look forward to working with you in the coming year.

Thank you.

What Republicans have done -- and what they need to do Ed Hornick CNN After being left for dead in the wake of the 2008 election, Republicans staged a stunning comeback over the past year. Winning back the House and gaining a significant number of seats in the Senate in November gives them another stab at governing. The energized GOP, added to Americans‘ discontent with the way the country is headed, played a large factor in the midterm election wins.
