a message from Senator AL Franken

Al Franken - U.S. Senator, Minnesota

Dear Carmen,

There’s nothing worse than a verbose fundraising email, so I’ll get right to the point: We’re $12,342 away from our November fundraising goal — can you click here to contribute $5 or $10 and help us reach it?

Please?

Thanks,

Al

P.S.: Okay, in case you felt shortchanged by that fairly brusque email, let me reassure you that, in fact, your support really does mean an awful lot to me. Every time I ask my staff how we’re doing and hear about all the $25 contributions people are sending in and all the nice notes that come along with the contributions, it lifts my spirits and makes me even more committed to doing the good work you worked so hard to send me to the Senate to do. It’s just that, when I asked the team how we were doing today, they told me about being $12,342 short of our monthly goal. And I know there are only 13 hours left, but I really, really want to get there. Not just for the satisfaction of reaching a goal, but because we need that money to fund our grassroots, people-powered campaign. And it really does make a difference when you send in a few dollars — in fact, if everyone who read this email sent in a few dollars, we’d blow through that goal. Actually, if only the people who read all the way through to this ridiculously long P.S. sent in a few dollars, we’d be all set for the month. Anyway.

P.P.S.: Please click here to contribute.

Enough is Enough … Nancy Pelosi

Enough is enough.

The clock is ticking toward the Super Committee’s November 23rd deadline. Republicans are insisting on eliminating the Medicare guarantee while cutting taxes for millionaires and refusing to include a robust jobs plan. That’s not fair.

Democrats remain hopeful that we’ll get a deal and will continue to advocate for a big, bold, and balanced plan to reduce the deficit and create jobs.

With just 25 seats standing between us and a new Democratic Majority, let’s seize this moment and show the world Democrats are strong and united.

That’s why we’ve set a goal of raising $500,000 from grassroots Democrats before the critical Federal Election Commission deadline on November 30th to hold these Tea Party Republicans accountable. Will you stand with us?

Please contribute $3 or more right now to ensure Democrats have a powerful showing in the first important deadline since the One Year Out to the election mark.

 Thank you,

a message from Senator Al Franken …

When you win an election by just 312 votes, you know that small things make a big difference. In retrospect, a single volunteer shift – or a single contribution – could have been the deciding factor.

Our next campaign hasn’t even begun yet. But I think it’s a safe bet that, when we look back on it, we’ll be glad for everything we did to gas up our people-powered grassroots machine in advance.

A contribution of just $5 now would do a lot to help keep our grassroots organization strong – please click here to donate now! http://www.alfranken.com/page/m/6cf7792/715407ea/31f0d526/78164493/1755333154/VEsE/

I know it’s really, really early. But just because I’m not on the ballot right now doesn’t mean I don’t need your help. Even as we’re focusing on today’s fights – putting people back to work, rebuilding the middle class, keeping Wall Street’s hands off of Social Security – the powerful special interests are plotting their attacks.

We’ve been pretty good at taking them on – and getting under their skin. But they’re preparing to spend millions to shut us up once and for all.

That’s why I’m asking for your help now. We have to keep building our grassroots strength if we’re going to be able to withstand the attacks. And waiting until the campaign is officially underway just isn’t an option.

Can you make a contribution of $5 (more if you can afford it) to make sure our grassroots organization is ready for what’s coming?

I know that you’ll have my back when the campaign heats up – but I’m hoping you’ll be willing to do a little bit now to help me get ready for what’s coming.

A few dollars can make a big difference. And if my next campaign is as close as my last one, your decision to get involved now will look pretty good in retrospect.

Please click here to contribute now.

Thanks for helping me get ready,

 Al

Breaking: Medicare cuts

News broke yesterday of a very bad idea.

Sixty Democrats in the House signed a letter to the so-called “Super Committee” saying that Medicare benefit cuts are on the table — essentially giving the Super Committee a green light to slash Medicare in pursuit of its goal of $4 trillion in budget cuts.

These Democrats have thrown up their hands and quit on one of the most important fights right now for the middle class. Worst of all, some of them are progressives we’ve relied on in the past.

We’re looking for personal stories about how Medicare cuts would impact your life and the lives of your family members. A personal story can be a powerful tool in creating change — and could make the difference in persuading these Democrats to abandon their bad idea.

What’s your peronsal story about the role of Medicare in your life? Share your story right now — and prove to these 60 Democrats why Medicare must be protected.

If you dont have a story, add your name to our pledge to oppose any candidate who votes for cuts to Medicare or Medicaid benefits.

Medicare is not the problem. Medicare did not cause the run-up in federal deficits. Republican tax-cuts to the richest 1% and their corporate friends caused the mess we’re in. Those people should be the ones to clean up the mess, not middle class families and seniors that are struggling to get by.

If Democrats give in to Republicans on Medicare, they will be doing so at the expense of so many middle class families that are counting on them right now to protect their benefits in this difficult time.

Share your story about why Medicare cuts should be taken off the table entirely. http://act.democracyforamerica.com/go/1282?akid=1466.1480546.5_boDM&t=3

I don’t have a story to share, but I will sign the pledge.   http://act.democracyforamerica.com/go/1284?akid=1466.1480546.5_boDM&t=4

We’ll be sure to get your stories to the Democrats who signed this letter, so that they know you are counting on them to stand up and protect Medicare.

Let’s stop this bad idea before it gets any worse.

Thanks for everything you do,

– Gregg
