24 House of Reality

The Climate Reality Project

In case you missed our big announcement Sunday, I wanted to share some exciting news:

Our second annual 24 Hours of Reality event, 24 Hours of Reality: The Dirty Weather Report, will take place on November 14.

We will gather together for a global webcast, streamed for 24 hours in all 24 time zones, showcasing how climate change and extreme weather are altering our lives and our planet.

Watch the announcement here from former Vice President Al Gore and share it with your friends:

Last year, millions of people around the world watched the first annual 24 Hours of Reality and were empowered to share the reality of climate change and join our call to action. And now, one year later, the climate crisis has intensified more than we even expected. The need for us to come together has never been more timely or important.

I’ll have much more to share with you soon, including ways in which you can be a part of this global event. Thank you for your continuing support of our work. We look forward to seeing you online on November 14!

Watch former Vice President Al Gore announce 24 Hours of Reality: The Dirty Weather Report, and share this video with your friends.

Sincerely, Maggie L. Fox

Not for the faint of heart … Alex Bogusky, Climate Reality

While some folks have told us these aren’t exactly family fare, we think they make a point that’s long overdue. And you can help make sure that everyone who you think can handle them, sees them.

We are planning an online ad buy — but we need your help to reach as many people as possible. Will you donate $10 to get this message out?

Your donation will help us spread the Climate Reality message in a unique and effective way. Tell the world: The climate crisis is not a debate. It’s reality. And the time to take action is not the future — it’s right now. The fat lady has sung.

Watch the videos and make a donation today. Anything you give makes a difference:

The time to act is now. The denial has hit the fan.

Thanks,

Urge the EPA to stick to its timeline to reduce global warming emissions without delay

Urge the EPA to Stick to its Timeline to Reduce Global Warming Emissions without Delay

http://action.ucsusa.org/site/R?i=EDrlAO7zLgbV1jaWyBggqg..

From extreme weather events and longer heat waves to more potent allergy seasons, global warming has a direct impact on our health. The science underscores the fact that we have very little time to begin making the swift and deep reductions in global warming emissions needed to avoid the worst effects of climate change.

With the new Congress unlikely to act on the urgent threat of global warming, we need the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to work quickly to follow through on its commitment to reduce global warming emissions under the Clean Air Act. Starting this month, large new and modified facilities, such as coal-fired power plants, must use the best available energy efficiency technologies to reduce their global warming emissions.

The EPA has also announced a schedule for issuing rules to actually limit emissions from power plants and petroleum refineries—some of the nation’s oldest and dirtiest pollution sources, which account for 40 percent of all U.S. global warming emissions. The EPA plans to finalize the rules by mid to late 2012 and is now accepting public comments on this timeline.

The EPA needs to hear that concerned citizens like you support its timeline and would oppose any further delay. Your comments will play a critical role in highlighting the urgent need to reduce global warming emissions now.

Take Action Today!

Sincerely,

Kate Abend

Extreme Weather: Face the facts

The facts are devastatingly clear.

Around the globe, we are on track to see the hottest year yet in 2010. From the flooding in Pakistan to droughts in Russia and landslides in China, the effects of this year’s extreme weather are catastrophic and undeniable.

The recent pattern of extreme weather events is consistent with what scientists have projected to result from climate change: temperature shifts, severe rainfall and snow in some parts of the world, and major droughts in others.

Check out Repower America’s fact sheet on extreme weather and share it with your friends.

Get the Facts: Extreme Weather and Climate Change

Despite the overwhelming facts, skeptics — like the now infamous Koch brothers1, Massey coal2 and Lord Monckton3 — will no doubt continue to spend big bucks to keep spreading misinformation about global warming.

But if we want to fight the skeptics, we’ll need a growing number of people to get informed. As the evidence mounts, leaders like Russian President Dmitry Medvedev are finally speaking out about climate change. President Medvedev spoke out at a United Nations Security Council meeting and said,

“What is happening now in our central regions is evidence of this global climate change, because we have never in our history faced such weather conditions in the past. This means that we need to change the way we work, change the methods that we used in the past.”4

In Pakistan, nearly 1,600 people have died this summer from the worst monsoon-related floods in living memory. And around the world, 2000-2009 was the warmest decade on record5, and 2010 is on track to be the warmest year the world has seen in 131 years.

Extreme weather events are putting lives in danger all around the world. Make sure you get the facts and spread the word.
