RepoWer America …

No doubt about it: Information and truth are powerful tools. Armed with them, there’s almost nothing we can’t do.

But for a lot of reasons, information can be hidden, or distorted. That can make it hard to see the truth, even though it’s always still right there in front of us. This can be especially true when it comes to the climate crisis.

This is where Repower America comes in. I’m Josh Nelson, and I’m the Repower America New Media Director. I believe in the powerful role that online tools like blogs can play in exposing the truth about the climate crisis and what it’s doing to our planet, and I’d like to introduce you to the Repower Blog.

Meant to be a resource for people who want to know the facts about the climate crisis, over the past few months, we’ve really kicked our Repower Blog into high gear. As we begin to make decisions about what content we will post in 2011, I’d like to get your thoughts. Check out the Repower America Blog and share your thoughts by leaving a note in the comments.

On the Repower Blog you can find stats on clean energy solutions and talking points on the latest climate science. You can share posts with other climate voices across the Repower America community — and help us tell a story about positive action to address the climate crisis that’s already happening across the United States, even if it’s not happening in Washington yet.

But more than anything, our blog is about you — and we want your input. What would you like to see us blog more about in the future? We’ve just posted an open thread on the blog to gather your ideas — please visit it now and share your thoughts:

After you comment, take a look through some of our recent posts. To make it easier to find what you’re looking for, our posts are divided into the following categories:

Click on any of the categories above to explore our previous posts.

The Repower Blog is a chance for all of us to shine a light on the truth about the climate crisis. The more you contribute to it, the more powerful it can be. The truth is a powerful thing.

Thanks for all that you do.

Write your governor today
Please write your governor today to ensure that your state does their part to protect public health by reducing global warming emissions under the Clean Air Act

Urge Your Governor to Protect Public Health
Dear Carmen,

From extreme weather events and longer heat waves to more potent allergy seasons, global warming has a direct impact on our health. Fortunately, the Clean Air Act requires the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to protect the public’s health and the environment from the dangerous impacts of global warming by reducing heat-trapping emissions.

In order to effectively reduce global warming emissions, the EPA must work together with every state. Recently, each state sent the EPA a letter indicating whether it is ready and willing to work with the agency.

Fortunately, in its letter, your state indicated its willingness to protect public health and the environment by complying with the EPA’s regulations to reduce global warming emissions. Please thank your governor for agreeing to work with the EPA and encourage your state to continue its leadership on this important issue.

Take Action Today!

Sincerely,

Union of Concerned Scientists - Got Science?

Quick! True or False: Global warming will be good for farmers because they’ll be able to grow more corn.

Know the answer? If you do then you’re doing better than many of the people we see on television these days. Keep going by taking our Got Science or Not Science quiz today and we’ll send you a “Got Science?” sticker for your effort.

Test your global warming smarts and get your free “Got Science?” sticker today.

Take the Quiz and get a sticker! The Union of Concerned Scientists and CREDO Action have been keeping a close eye on what public personalities like Sean Hannity and Senator James Inhofe are saying on the airwaves about global warming. And we’ve come to the sad conclusion that in too many cases, there’s something missing: science.

See what we’re talking about right here. We’ve gathered quotes from climate experts, politicians, and news media. It’s up to you to determine whether each quote has got science or if it’s not science. Click here to take the quiz.

It’s pretty outrageous that the airwaves are still rampant with global warming deniers who will stop at nothing to mislead the public. So, that’s why the Union of Concerned Scientists and our friends at CREDO Action are fighting back with the truth. Test your global warming smarts and get your free “Got Science?” sticker Today. Take the quiz, get the sticker

Then, show off your smarts to your friends and let them know how they can get a free “Got Science?” sticker too.

Take the quiz. Get the sticker. Tell your friends.

Thank you for standing with the Union of Concerned Scientists to help restore scientific integrity to the national conversation about global warming.

Sincerely,
Kate Abend

Washington, Approve R-52

Tomorrow is Election Day, and you have an opportunity to make Washington‘s schools more energy efficient and create energy savings for Washington taxpayers. Vote to approve Referendum 52 and stand up for a clean energy economy that starts with retrofitted schools.

Too many of Washington’s schools are falling apart, and R-52 provides the necessary bond money to fund the energy-efficiency retrofitting of older schools and university buildings.

Not only does this enable Washington to repair its schools in an environmentally sound way, but it will create much-needed energy efficiency jobs across Washington.

Please vote by mail today — and don’t forget to approve R-52.

Repower America has been working all year on passing national legislation to help fight climate change. Tomorrow there is something you can do right in Washington to make a real change in your community.

R-52 supports a tough, smart measure that will save taxpayers money and make our air cleaner. But it can’t pass without your support.

Approve R-52 — and mail in your ballot today.

Thanks,
