Fourteen days ago, Olympia Republicans fought to pass a state budget that slashed millions from education funding and forced our already cash-strapped state into a special session that is costing about $20,000 per day. After weeks of public outcry and media scrutiny, today those same Republicans were embarrassed into reversing course by restoring funding to education. Rob McKenna‘s response today continued to suggest his support for the Republican-passed budget that cut millions from our schools and colleges, despite campaigning on the need to increase funding for education. Will you share this video with your friends so they can see for themselves that Rob McKenna isn’t who he says he is when it comes to standing up for our schools? McKenna can’t have it both ways. That’s why we’ve launched a new web video that lays out McKenna’s duplicity and calls into question his commitment to his own campaign rhetoric.
McKenna has been on the record constantly, promising billions for education since he launched his campaign — it’s a matter of public record:
He talks a good game. But when Republicans passed a budget that slashed $74 million dollars from our already underfunded schools and colleges, PubliCola reported that McKenna praised the Republican budget. Voters want to know where McKenna stands: with Olympia Republicans who wanted to slash education funding, or with his own campaign rhetoric that calls for more education spending? Last year, New York state showed what a difference a governor can make in the fight for marriage equality. In 2012, Washingtonians have a chance to elect another governor who will always stand up and fight for equal rights: my friend, Jay Inslee. Jay is facing a tough race against a well-funded opponent — one whose stance on equality couldn’t be further from Jay’s. With landmark marriage equality legislation making its way through the Washington legislature as we speak, Washington will need a governor who can be counted on to stand up and fight for all Washingtonians’ equal rights. Since I announced my jobs plan last week, people from across the state have been expressing their support for our commonsense approach to job creation — an approach that will create good-paying, middle-class jobs for all kinds of workers in every corner of our state. They know, like I do, that building a working Washington requires us to identify industries where we can or do out-compete the rest of the world. And by focusing on building up those industries, we CAN out-compete the world. No place is better suited to pursue a bold, innovative, and forward-thinking approach than Washington state. We’ve put together a short video with some of our favorite moments from last week’s events, and I wanted to share it with you. Do you have couple minutes to watch it?

If there’s one state I believe can turn its economy around, that can harness an innovative and creative vision for the future, it’s our state. We are uniquely suited to build a new economy that raises the quality of life for middle-class families for generations to come — and that’s because our state has a unique blend of innovation and values not found anywhere else. We create. We invent. We build. This is our first major policy proposal, but it won’t be our last. Over the weeks and months to come, this will be the trailhead as we chart a path to Building a Working Washington. I want to know you’re standing with me. We are still trying to recover from this recession. We are in an international competition for jobs. The middle class is being squeezed like never before. No free passes for Wall Street
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and a number of state attorneys general — including Washington state Attorney General Rob McKenna, who is on the negotiating team — are close to signing a deal that would let the Wall Street banks most responsible for the subprime mortgage crisis off the hook.
That’s wrong, and we need your help to stop it.
