Nowhere else I’d rather be … Sarah Benzing

I knew when I came on as Sherrod’s campaign manager that this would be a tough fight. And, believe me – it’s not easy to plan a winning campaign when you’re facing a larger special interest spending gap than any other Democrat in the country.

But there’s nowhere else I’d rather be. The nearly $3,000,000 worth of attack ads Karl Rove and his pals have thrown at us already tell me that I’m working for the right guy – a true progressive who represents a real danger to the special interests’ monopoly on political power.

And small-dollar contributions from thousands of progressives like you tell me that we can win, no matter what the special interests have in store.

If you haven’t had a chance to help Sherrod win by making a contribution to our grassroots campaign, now’s a great time. And if you’ve given once, now’s a perfect time to double down on your support by giving again!

Like you, I’ve watched these powerful interests conspire to paralyze our government and hurt our middle class. I’ve watched them smear progressives and try to buy elections. I’ve watched them lie about our agenda and hide their own.

And let me tell you: It’s a privilege to be able to fight against them every single day on this campaign. Sherrod says he takes Karl Rove’s onslaught of attacks as a badge of honor. And none of us here at the campaign are afraid of a tough fight.

I hope I can count on you to share that same spirit – and I hope you’ll consider clicking here and making a contribution to make our campaign possible. Even $5 would help, so please give today!

There’s no one I’d rather be working for than Sherrod Brown. And I’m incredibly proud to be part of a campaign where we don’t back off our progressive values and we don’t back down when we’re attacked. But it’s your support that makes it all possible. And I hope you’re ready for this fight.

Please click here to give now!

Thanks for making this all possible.

Hey Friend, just wanted to give you a quick update. In just 2 days, we are more than halfway towards our fundraising goal for ThinkProgress. Thank you!

We don’t have any mugs, ball caps, or tote bags to offer. But we’ll promise to keep fighting for the truth — something that’s going to be much harder to come by in 2012.

Can you pitch in $5 right now and help us get over the finish line?

As always, feel free to email me with any questions or comments.

Dear Friend,

In 2012, Karl Rove, the Koch Brothers and others on the far-right are planning to spend nearly half a billion dollars to influence the political debate. Their goal is to make sure that the national dialogue protects their own deep pockets at the expense of the rest of the nation.

ThinkProgress is working around the clock to fight back with the truth. This past year, we traveled around the country to confront the right-wing with tough questions. We exposed their underhanded tactics, and crunched the numbers behind their radical policy schemes.

Next year, there is even more at stake and we need to work even harder. But we can’t do it without your help. We need to raise $25,000 this week to help fund our reporting for the coming year.

Please click here to pitch in $5 and help us bring the facts to the 99%.

We have made a huge impact this year. A few examples:

  • After Herman Cain told us in an interview he would not be comfortable with a Muslim in his cabinet, we began a campaign to fight back against Islamophobia in the conservative movement.
  • We attended congressional town halls conducted by at least 20 different members of Congress, and broke the news that Paul Ryan got booed for saying the rich were taxed enough.
  • In early October, we launched a new page on ThinkProgress that was solely devoted to reporting on the nationwide Occupy protests, branding it The 99 Percent Movement.

Our influence is scaring many on the right. The powerful corporate front group ALEC kicked our reporters out of a conference, and the Koch-funded Americans for Prosperity launched a smear campaign against one of our writers.

We need your support now, more than ever, to keep up the fight in 2012.

Best,

Faiz Shakir
Editor, ThinkProgress.org

P.S. We never stop. Please pitch in $5 and it’ll be the hardest working $5 you’ve ever spent.

Campaign ALERT:

CAMPAIGN ALERT: We just got news that Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS group has launched $1.8 million in vicious, lie-filled ads attacking five of our Democratic Senate candidates, including Elizabeth Warren in Massachusetts.

Why Warren? Because she is a true fighter against corporate power and is a serious threat to beat Scott Brown and take back that seat in Massachusetts.

Election Day is one year away. Campaign outcomes are being decided NOW. We’re still $50,000 short of our Year Out Project goal, and we need to respond to Rove’s attacks with a show of strength by midnight. Every dollar we fall short is a dollar Karl Rove can spend attacking our candidates without challenge. With 23 seats to defend, we can’t afford that. We would lose the Senate, and the new leadership would have Rove on speed dial.

Karl Rove’s attacking us in Massachusetts. Virginia. Montana. Missouri. Nebraska. And we know more attacks are coming. I’ll let you know when more news breaks.

Who is Bob Dold? …Michael Langenmayr, Democracy for America

Bob Dold is the weakest Republican running for reelection in 2012.

He’s from Illinois‘s tenth congressional district — the most Democratic district in the country represented by a Republican.

He’s a right-winger trying to sell himself as a moderate. He says he’s pro-choice, but voted to defund Planned Parenthood. He voted for Paul Ryan‘s plan to kill Medicare. He’s voted lockstep with John Boehner and the Tea Party majority to tear down the middle class and empower big corporations.

Karl Rove, the Koch brothers — they’re going to spend millions to keep Dold in office because they need rubber stamp congressmen like Dold to ram their big corporate agenda through Congress.

But their money can’t stand up to real people power and we can win with grassroots candidate Ilya Sheyman.

Please contribute $10 right now to help Ilya win in IL-10.

Ilya’s one of us. He’s a fighter. He’s a truth-teller. He’s a longtime DFA member.

He is a grassroots progressive and he’s putting together the sort of campaign that can beat a corporate rubber stamp like Dold — one fueled by volunteers on the ground, going door-to-door and making calls to voters across the district.

Ilya isn’t afraid to take on special interests and speak truth to power — and that’s the sort of Democrat we need more of in Washington.

Contribute $10 now to elect Ilya in Illinois.

Thank you for all that you do.
