Obama, Scarborough and Gun Safety

Fiscal cliff negotiations are going on NOW, so we have a limited window of time to make sure President Obama doesn’t step back from his promises. Can you take a minute to make a call?

Rob Zerban and 50,000 Supporters Demand Paul Ryan Debate

This is Rob Zerban, Paul Ryan‘s congressional opponent. If you just watched the VP debate, now you know why Ryan won’t debate me.

His plans to end Medicare, privatize Social Security, and cut taxes on the wealthy simply can’t withstand scrutiny. Joe Biden clearly won.

This past week, I delivered your signature and 50,000 others to Paul Ryan’s office, demanding a debate. Today, I repeated this challenge on MSNBC.

Tomorrow, I’m holding a national call to respond to the VP debate and — once again — demand that Ryan debate me. Media and PCCC members are invited, and I’ll take questions.

Click here to see our petition delivery — and RSVP for tomorrow’s national call (you can also listen online).

You can also see the video here and sign up to Call Out The Vote for me this weekend!

PCCC members have been there for me time after time. You made over 42,000 calls for my campaign on Wednesday — and you’ve generously donated over $122,000 to my campaign this past year.

Thank you for helping me give Paul Ryan his toughest race in 12 years, including out-fundraising him last quarter. Let’s keep the pressure on!

See you on the call tomorrow.

How to steal an election … Judd Legum from – TP

You don’t need a Ph.D. in political science to know that Florida could decide the election this November.

So it caught ThinkProgress’ attention when Florida Governor Rick Scott, a close ally of Mitt Romney, started a massive purge of registered voters from the rolls a few weeks ago.

The national media? They completely ignored it.

Not us. We broke the news that HUNDREDS of fully eligible U.S. citizens, mostly Democrats and Latinos, were being improperly targeted. We even identified two 91-year-old WWII vets who were about to have their voting rights stripped.

It’s not just Florida. We need to raise $30,000 by Monday to expand our coverage to other critical swing states where voting rights are under attack—Ohio, Colorado, and Virginia.

Please chip in $5—or whatever you can—right now so we can get to work before it’s too late. The outcome of November’s election could very well hang in the balance.

After ThinkProgress took the lead, the national media started paying attention. Our reporting was cited extensively on cable news networks like MSNBC and precipitated a powerful editorial in The New York Times.

Late last week, following extensive reporting throughout Florida by ThinkProgress, the Justice Department sent Rick Scott a letter declaring the purge illegal and demanding he put a stop to it.

We are making a difference.

But we can’t stop with Florida. This election, and our democracy, are just too important. We need researchers and reporters on the ground right now, reporting the truth.

Chip in $5 right now so ThinkProgress can investigate and expose voter suppression across the country.

Best,

Think Progress: the 5man panel – Birth Control

No Women Allowed

By ThinkProgress War Room

Sorry, ‘Gals

This morning, Republicans held a hearing on women’s health care.  Here’s the panel they brought in to discuss birth control:

And then Foster Friess, Rick Santorum’s money man, went on MSNBC this afternoon and gave some unsolicited advice on contraception to “the gals.”

Check out his shocking comments:

Foster Friess: I get such a chuckle when these things come out. Here we have millions of our fellow Americans unemployed, we have jihadist camps being set up in Latin America, which rick has been warning about, and people seem to be so preoccupied with sex. I think that says something about our culture. We maybe need a massive therapy session so we can concentrate on what the real issues are. And this contraceptive thing, my gosh, it’s such inexpensive. Back in my days, they used Bayer aspirin for contraceptives. The gals put it between their knees and it wasn’t that costly.”

IN ONE SENTENCE: Republicans may find blocking affordable access to birth control funny, but the GOP’s all-out war on women’s health care is no laughing matter.

Victory for Dixie Mitchell … Ian Pajer-Rogers New Bottom Line

Thank everyone for signing this petition from The New Bottom Line to help Dixie Mitchell keep her home, which was scheduled to be auctioned off on October 28th.

Last week, we delivered over 7,000 petition signatures and Dixie’s loan modification paperwork to Ocwen Financial in Florida, while Dixie’s supporters rallied outside of her Seattle home. Dixie’s story earned tons of media coverage in Seattle and Dixie also went on Up with Chris Hayes on MSNBC to talk about her case.

All the hard work finally paid off. On Friday, Dixie received a call from Ocwen offering her the loan modification that will save her home.http://www.newbottomline.com/victory_for_dixie_mitchell

This after years of Dixie fighting just to get Ocwen to look at the paperwork. It’s a testament to what can happen when people organize to hold corporations and big banks accountable to regular Americans.

While Dixie can now rest easy knowing that her home is safe, millions of other Americans are not so fortunate. The New Bottom Line is made up of dozens of local progressive, faith-based, and community groups in 27 states nationwide. We are committed to fighting for an economy that works for all Americans and are particularly focused on elevating low-income communities that were hardest hit by the financial crisis.
