6 tips for putting words to music

I am not a songwriter musician or lyrist, but I love to read definitely listen and more often than not dance to the spoken word when put to music.

My personal interest is in the art of movement, specifically dance;  when music is combined with words in innovative patterns can soothe invigorate irritate as well as make you move and feel good.

They say Music is said to soothe the savage beast least we talk about when done right …  Words can touch our souls and that also awakens our senses. Most of us can agree that the art of dance and or music transcends language barriers.

So, my six tips are below …

 (1) Make it personal because reading experiences about a one night stand love at first sight, first love, lust, a long term love brings a sense of connection folks sometimes look for and set to music can only enhance a good lyric . .Right

2) Be yourself  folks do go out their way to learn the lyrics to a song and will like love and feel  the performer is genuine in their delivery and not trying to be something else,  can actually be heard seen felt

3) The kind of music that makes an impression also provides imagery and a vision of something the song is about; even if it is abstract, the image is sort of like a coffee table object.  Always up for interpretation depending on who is listening to reading or learning the lyrics … of course, when it comes to love … when someone is singing to you … take time to listen; I heard that once and then again you may have heard the song but weren’t feeling the music

 (4) Rhymes Reason and Rhythm because who doesn’t like the art of movement …and more often than not that is what kind of music makes great artist move up into the stratosphere … in my opinion. I dance because I have to and anything that has a great hook a great bass or syncopation definitely will be played more than once in my house. The rhythm of life

 (5) Always assume a video of your creation is a possibility so … be that visionary

 (6)     🙂  Always believe you were born to make music  (:

So, what makes you get onto the dance floor …

In the Library … Lillian Walker , by John C. Hughes

OLYMPIA…Bremerton civil rights heroine Lillian Walker

A book called “Lillian Walker, Washington Civil Rights Pioneer,” written by John C. Hughes, an author and interviewer with The Legacy Project, an oral history program established by the Office of Secretary of State in 2008. The book is published by the Washington State Heritage Center and printed by Gorham Printing.Joyce.

“The YWCA’s goal is to make Mrs. Walker’s inspirational story available to all school and public libraries in the nation as an example of a young person who not only had the courage to stand up for what is right, but also to continue to stay involved in her community to make it better over a 70-year time period,” Jackson said.

Lillian Walker helped found the Bremerton branch of the NAACP in 1943 and went on to serve as state NAACP secretary. She was conducting sit-ins and filing civil rights lawsuits when Martin Luther King was in junior high school.

Mrs. Walker and her late husband, James, arrived in the Navy Yard city of Bremerton in 1941 together with thousands of other AfricanAmerican wartime workers who thought they had left racism behind in the South and industrialized cities of Midwest and East. But many Kitsap County businesses, including cafes, taverns, drug stores and barber shops, displayed signs saying, “We Cater to White Trade Only.” In a landmark case, the Walkers took a soda fountain owner to court and won.

Mrs. Walker is a charter member of the YWCA of Kitsap County, former chairman of the Kitsap County Regional Library Board, a 69-year member of Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church, and a founder and former president of Church Women United in Bremerton.

Happy Halloween

 Happy Halloween

The weather outside is frightful depending upon which state you live in. It is reported that snow is rolling through the low land Plains, Canada and the PNW Mountains though life in the low lands here is as per usual here in the 206 … windy and cold. In a complete surprise, reports are that #Halloween2019 will be sunny and cold! So make sure to dress appropriately and be on the safe side!
Halloween in the 206 is usually rainy.

just another rant …
I don’t know about you but dang, the #WANov5ballot was complex and took a little longer than usual to fill out because of the many positions, issues and the lack of information to ponder but, the fact that I couldn’t vote for Mayor or the City Council in my area due to how the lines are drawn is upsetting, not acceptable. I did refer to the #ProgressiveVotersGuide website for help! So, my point is, I hope everyone has taken the time to go over that #Nov5Ballot and checked the information on it with some much-needed research. I did NOT vote for R88 in this era of trump because I don’t know who or how companies will be monitored; who will face any consequences if this policy is on an honor system only and as Vets have been stating … They might or will be left out.

Politics! has seeped into every part of our lives since trump managed to gain the highest position in the land and not in a good way IMO. Whoever helped him and however he got there, it certainly isn’t what our founders envisioned. When the 2018Midterms showed that the country wanted needed checks and balances on this guy, things just got crazier. Now, we are in a Historic moment where not only has the trump impeachment inquiry vote taken in the House and will move forward we have an African American Woman currently in the position of 4th in the Democratic Primary Candidate choices. While all this is going on the Republican Nationalist Party has made a whole lot of folks uncomfortable, what with all the loony tune behavior, overt lies and racist comments by folks who claim they are qualified to be representing constituents… Tell me how that can be if you are engaging in fear of nonwhites? We all need to repeat daily, that are a nation of immigrants yet, being brown and or black appears to be enough to be considered suspect.

“Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.”

I do not want to go back to what sounds like the colonial days …it controlled the lives & the future of people of colour and now a group that took a hard right are saying they are Nationalists …their definition btw hasn’t been clarified by team trump after tossing it out into the airwaves.

Q: Are they determined to repeal equity in all its forms …
We are a nation of immigrants, yet it seems like there is a stark difference between which immigrants, asylum seekers or refugees that are more acceptable … You heard the rhetoric, we must move forward to stay in the present so discrimination in all its forms fails.

We the People V Politics Party and Profit in 2019? ~ it’s a repost

mayorsagainstguns

In memory of all victims and or survivors at the hands of guns… Ask your member of Congress – What will it take?

Another day another School shooting!  Our hearts are broken and we all still keep offering prayers for all the students, teachers and thank staff for saving lives …and YES we should but as we all know thoughts and prayers are no longer enough! we need action on laws that are quite simple to implement and while the right keeps saying so …  no one’s gun is likely to be taken away unless of course it should be… due to a failed background check, domestic violence, mental illness, documentation stating so

Now, after the umpteenth tragic incident I find out that the rant below and the infographic above done in 2013 is now out dated, which is beyond sad beyond my understanding considering the number of deaths, injuries and life changing experiences from folks who are, were and continue to purchase guns. The new reports taken in June of 2015 were that about 52% of Americans want gun reform.  Now, in this year of 2018 at least 83% support criminal background checks. Sadly, we have Republicans who still take in a whole lot of money from the NRA and don’t seem to care or listen to “WeThePeople”  and that motto; One person One vote either no longer exists or is considered a joke to those leaning far right and while no one is trying to take guns away from anyone, maybe those who have mental health issues or violent tendencies should be not be allowed to obtain a weapon of any kind that can harm kill them or any one else. The GOP has used fear mongering for what seems like decades which obviously allows the killings and or massacres to continue … Honestly, are these the kind of people we want in Congress – what happened to Public Servants

Reports are that at least 90% of our population agrees that it is about time we have some #gunsafety laws.

Additionally, most of us lefties are sticking together ,even some members of the NRA are for background checks, but we need a few Republican members of Congress to put people ahead of the NRA, the mighty $$ as well as their NRA ratings and until folks do, I am reserving judgment on how republicans keep saying they need to change seriously. We all know the NRA is in it to win it for gun manufacturers while lefties are not just in this for victims and survivors but for common sense laws … the NRA is not too big to fail and the assault weapons ban could have stopped some massacres.

There are approximately 310 Million people in America about 5 Million of those are pro-gun folks… so, why can’t we do the reforms needed?

We all know illegal guns on the streets kill someone everyday though we must thank Wayne lapierre for going on camera and showing Americans just why …

I am against handguns … period. There are enough incidents my family and friends have experienced that have molded my attitude toward guns over the years, lest a narrow escape or two of my own. The thought of a teacher having or being forced to keep a handgun in the classroom just does not make sense. I am without a doubt completely against military style weapons because I do not think we civilians need to have them at all and I definitely understand how folks interpret the 2nd Amendment while disagreeing on attaching it to states’ rights. The fact is that Gabby Gifford’s attack and all attacks since should have made us all sit up, move into genuine outrage and take immediate action. We need to use the sadness with a determination to at least ban assault weapons, retrofit K-12 School buildings and act rationally about creating registries, better permit process, close the gun show loophole and in my opinion every state should be required to impose a state of the art background check.  While not an expert on the NRA, ALEC or gun safety, I do have a strong opinion and need to share information, newsletters and interesting articles that are meant to start a dialogue. I will admit cringing anytime members of Congress use states’ rights as their solution to what are clearly American issues and scream for Federal intervention.  We need Mayors, Governors and voters to stand up and speak out more in this era of trump

Most of us believe that Gun Safety laws impact all Americans, clearly what we have now not only needs to be reformed, but should  reflect  our 21st Century living, formed around the notion of common sense solutions like universal background checks.
