The path this country takes after November 2nd will be determined by what we do over the next 22 days.

That’s the message the President is delivering on the stump across the country, but he’ll be the first to tell you: he needs you at his side.

We want to thank and recognize the people who are driving this grassroots campaign — organizing house meetings, talking to voters, and funding this effort one small donation at a time.

The extreme candidates on the other side aren’t just intent on bringing our progress to a halt, they want to take us backward, well beyond the failed policies of the last administration.

They envision an America where Social Security is privatized and left to the whims of the market. They picture an America where education programs get cut to pay for tax cuts for billionaires and corporations. And they look forward to an America where the insurance companies once again have the right to deny coverage to anyone they want.

This election is about choosing the direction this country takes.

On one side is the millions from undisclosed donors attacking our candidates. On the other is us. And each and every one of us who is committed to this struggle for change has a role to play.

That’s why we all need to be knocking on doors, making phone calls, and spreading the word from here through Election Day. The President is doing all he can, and he’s counting on all of us to take that next step today.

We know that educating voters works—people who know about candidate positions on working family issues vote, and vote in their best interests. But we also know that—even this close to the election—too many potential voters can’t name the candidates, much less their positions on the most important issues of our time.

That’s where you come in. We’ve done the research, dug into the voting records, scoured the news reports. Please do your part to get the word out.

When Republicans Attack


42 Days Until the Election

Election Day is just 42 days from today and everything you and I care about is on the line.

A Republican victory would unleash an agenda so extreme that it would make George Bush blush. Well, that’s not going to happen.

I’ve reviewed the DCCC‘s campaign plan. They have a smart, aggressive battle plan for winning this election based upon a carefully targeted media strategy and a Get-Out-The-Vote plan using sophisticated voter turn-out models that even our opponents say is second to none.

But, this plan depends upon a secret ingredient: Committed grassroots supporters like you. To launch into action, we must raise $278,451 more before Friday’s deadline to get money to campaigns before their Day of Action this Saturday.

Every dollar you give can mean the difference between victory and defeat on Election Day.

Contribute $5, $10 or more to Democrats’ Early Voter Action Fund before Friday’s deadline when we have to finalize our field plans. Your contribution will be matched 2-to-1 by a group of committed Democrats to help in even more close races.

The fact is more than 75% of the DCCC’s funding comes from individual donors like you. The DCCC knows how to put those dollars to work exposing radical Republicans’ promises to privatize Social Security, repeal health care reform and gut Wall Street regulations.

I’m asking you to step up right now and provide the financial resources we need to get out our message and turn out our voters.

Social Security …would it really be safe with Republicans?


You may have heard about Alan Simpson, the right-wing millionaire and former Republican senator who President Obama (absurdly) appointed to lead the commission making recommendations to Congress about the future of Social Security.

Simpson compares Social Security to welfare, saying recently, “We’ve reached a point now where [Social Security] is like a milk cow with 310 million tits.”

It’s been widely reported that Simpson’s “deficit reduction” commission will make Social Security their prime target — choosing to cut a program that’s in surplus and helps the middle class instead of taking on tax cuts for the rich or wasteful military spending.

Twenty bold members of Congress just signed a letter to President Obama saying they’ll vote against any proposal from Simpson’s commission that cuts Social Security. They deserve our support.

These bold members of Congress, led by Progressive Caucus Chair Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), are asking their colleagues to join their letter. Proof that the public is paying attention to this issue will help them immensely.

We’ll also inform the media of our growing number of “citizen signers” so Simpson’s commission knows that these twenty members of Congress are not alone. Sign the letter here.

Simpson’s commission is packed with out-of-touch millionaires and corporate types. Any recommendation they make will lack credibility. But we need to make especially clear to Simpson’s commission, President Obama, and all of Congress that any proposal to cut Social Security is a non-starter.
