Sheldon Whitehouse OceansPac & Climate Change

Join Sheldon Whitehouse‘s fight to elect candidates who support oceans and environmental issues.

OceansPAC

Dear Carmen,

Today, I’m launching a new website — OC‌EANSPAC.com — to help take the fight against climate change to the next level.

Every single week the Senate is in session, I go to the Senate floor to urge my colleagues to take action to protect our planet and future generations. But while I’ve been leading the charge to wake Congress up to climate change, I need more colleagues who are willing to join me in taking on the toughest climate change fights — and we haven’t a moment to waste.

That’s why I created OCEANS PAC — because candidates who support oceans and environmental issues need our support. And as one of my strongest supporters, I want to invite you to join me today.

I need your help to make sure we get OCEANS PAC off to a strong start. We need the resources to support our candidates, grow this community, and elect more climate change champions to Congress in the future!

Will you help kick off OCEANS PAC by donating $5 today?

Help kick off OCEANS PAC! Donate today.

With the help of growing public support and people like you, we’re making progress towards addressing one of the most pressing issues of our time — but more work needs to be done.

Indeed, the other side is funded by big polluters who don’t hesitate to put millions of dollars behind their lies. OCEANS PAC is one way we can fight back.

And fight we must, because climate change is not a problem that will go away. For Congress to wake up, it needs more members who will support ocean and environmental issues.

Will you help kick off OCEANS PAC with a $5 donation to support climate candidates and fight against climate change?

OCEANS PAC supported the election of climate change champion Ed Markey in Massachusetts. Now, we have to help our allies facing tough races in 2014, like Al Franken in Minnesota.

We’re launching OCE‌ANSPAC.com today to help these strong candidates get the resources they need to win tight races, and to fight back against climate change deniers.

But I can’t do this alone. There are high stakes involved, and I need your help. I hope you will accompany me on this new journey, and that I can count on your enthusiastic support as we go forward.

Help kick-off OCEANS PAC with a $5 donation to support climate candidates and fight against climate change today.

Thanks for all you do,

Sheldon Whitehouse                     U.S. Senator

Oops! Whole Foods sells REAL chicken labeled vegan

From Jolinda Hackett, your Guide to Vegetarian Food
All of the vegetarian internet is talking about this issue, as well as dozens of major media, so I thought I’d weigh in on it too.
Whole Foods sells real chicken labeled as vegan

If you haven’t already heard, a swath of whole foods stores in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Maine sold real chicken labeled as vegan chicken in their prepared food bar for two days this week before anyone noticed an error.I don’t think it needs to be reiterated how obviously not ok this is, but I think there might be a few things the dozens of news articles are missing. Not to be too Pollyanna-ish, but consider the underlying implications… Read more

I regret our verdict … Nancy Day via Change.org

JusticeforTyra

Tyra Patterson was 19 years old when she was initially handed a sentence of 45 years to life for robbery and murder. I know this because I was on the jury that convicted her. But I just found out about evidence that wasn’t presented at the trial — and I believe it proves that Tyra is innocent.

I recently heard a recording of the 911 call that was placed the night of the crime and was shocked to discover that it was Tyra who called to help the victim. I also found out that Tyra’s co-defendants have stepped forward and said that Tyra was not connected to the crime. They even passed polygraph tests asserting her innocence.

If I had known about this evidence during the trial, I never would have voted to convict Tyra. And now that I do, I’m working to right this injustice by convincing the Governor to commute her sentence.

I started a petition on Change.org asking the Ohio Parole Board and Governor Kasich to pardon Tyra by commuting her sentence. Click here to sign my petition, and help me right this wrong.

During the trial, my gut told me that Tyra had just found herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. But her attorney barely put up a defense, and with the most important evidence left out of the trial, the other jurors and I felt like we had no choice but to convict. I have lost many nights of sleep over Tyra’s case, and I’m grateful that I now have the opportunity and the evidence to help set an innocent young woman free.

I know that Change.org petitions have successfully encouraged Governor Kasich to pardon prisoners before, like Kelley Williams-Bolar, a mom who was jailed for trying to get her kids to a safer school. I believe that if enough people sign my petition, Governor Kasich and the Ohio Parole Board will allow Tyra to come home. I want to be there when Tyra gets to leave prison as an innocent woman, knowing I did my part to make that happen. And I can’t do it without your help.

Join me in standing up for Tyra by signing my petition asking Governor Kasich and the Ohio Parole Board to review Tyra’s case and commute her sentence. Click here to sign.

Thank you for your help.

How To Boycott Florida From Any State-List of Florida Based Corps

tesspowell's avatarTess Powell Out Loud

An economic boycott of Florida based companies will force corporations to use their power and influence to change the laws that set child murder George Zimmerman free and put an end to their corrupt legal system.

While protests & vigils are appropriate, they haven’t done much to stop the tide of racially profiled murder victims. We’ve held them following Sean Bell, Oscar Grant, Rodney King with little effect.

Here’s a list of Florida based companies you can boycott from any state, that will have a strong economic impact & bring about meaningful change:(It’s so a good idea to tweet them too)

1) Do not buy products or services produced in Florida. Oranges, Tropicana orange juice, Elizabeth Arden Cosmetics, Hertz Rental cars, Perry Ellis International,Tupperware, Sunbeam appliances, Trac Phone Wireless, Cash4Gold, EA Tiburon which owns EA Electronics Video Games

2) Don’t patronize restaurants based in Florida. Darden corporation owns Red Lobster…
