HR7- We Marched and Now We Take Action: Tell Congress to Reject H.R. 7

Take Action Now: Tell Congress to Reject H.R. 7
Call your representative at (202) 224-3121.

This weekend, millions of people all over the United States marched to defend women’s rights.

Tomorrow, the House of Representatives will vote on legislation that would restrict health insurance coverage of abortion for nearly all women in this country. H.R.7 would effectively reverse the progress made by women and their families and would be especially burdensome for women of color and low-income women.

This is yet another attempt at making abortion inaccessible and denying women’s reproductive rights.

Currently, women enrolled in Medicaid are denied access to abortion coverage unless they fall under special cases. Federal employees and their dependents, Peace Corps volunteers, Native American women, and women in federal prisons and immigration detention centers all face similar restrictions as well.

H.R. 7 would make these restrictions permanent.

Studies show that when a woman is denied access to an abortion, she is three times as likely to fall into poverty than one who is able to access an abortion. Lower income women and women of color specifically experience a higher rate of harmful health conditions. Thus, denying abortion access will only exacerbate their health disparities.

Make your voice heard before 3:00 p.m. ET. Call your representative now at (202) 224-3121. Ask him/her to support abortion coverage and vote “No” on H.R. 7.

The control over women’s bodies and lives afforded to legislators in passing H.R. 7 is unacceptable. It is time for Congress to prioritize women’s autonomy, reproductive justice, and comprehensive health care coverage at the margins.

Donald Trump’s agenda is incredibly dangerous. His first week in office is not even over and he’s already launched attacks on the environment, on Indigenous rights, on immigrants, on voting rights, on free speech, and on scientific facts. He has named the wealthiest cabinet in U.S. history, filled with corporate advocates who are looking to increase corporate profits and corporate power — including naming the CEO of ExxonMobil, the country’s largest oil company, to be the Secretary of State.

We have already seen millions of people mobilized to resist the new administration’s policies. If you are ready to turn anger into action, we have the strategy, we have the infrastructure, and we have the history and commitment to make change happen.Ran

We need your help.

Standing Up For Our Law Enforcement Community

One of the fundamental rights of every American is to live in a safe community. A Trump Administration will empower our law enforcement officers to do their jobs and keep our streets free of crime and violence. The Trump Administration will be a law and order administration. President Trump will honor our men and women in uniform and will support their mission of protecting the public. The dangerous anti-police atmosphere in America is wrong. The Trump Administration will end it.

The Trump Administration is committed to reducing violent crime. In 2015, homicides increased by 17% in America’s fifty largest cities. That’s the largest increase in 25 years. In our nation’s capital, killings rose by 50 percent over the past four years There were thousands of shootings in Chicago last year alone.

Our country needs more law enforcement, more community engagement, and more effective policing.

Our job is not to make life more comfortable for the rioter, the looter, or the violent disrupter. Our job is to make life more comfortable for parents who want their kids to be able to walk the streets safely. Or the senior citizen waiting for a bus. Or the young child walking home from school.

Supporting law enforcement means supporting our citizens’ ability to protect themselves. We will uphold Americans’ Second Amendment rights at every level of our judicial system.

President Trump is committed to building a border wall to stop illegal immigration, to stop the gangs and the violence, and to stop the drugs from pouring into our communities. He is dedicated to enforcing our border laws, ending sanctuary cities, and stemming the tide of lawlessness associated with illegal immigration.

Supporting law enforcement also means deporting illegal aliens with violent criminal records who have remained within our borders.

It is the first duty of government to keep the innocent safe, and President Donald Trump will fight for the safety of every American, and especially those Americans who have not known safe neighborhoods for a very long time.

Join the resistance! Amazon Watch

This past weekend, millions of women and supporters of women’s rights marched all over the globe. Amazon Watch also marched, joining our allies in confronting the real and present dangers threatening women and our entire planet. The Women’s March was a powerful message of solidarity and resistance, but it was only a first step in the resistance to the moves by the Trump administration.

YES! I WILL RESIST!

Indigenous women of the Amazon have long been at the forefront of resistance on behalf of the planet and in defense of their rights and homes. Just as we stand with them, we also stand with our Sioux allies as the Dakota Access Pipeline fight re-escalates. We are all stronger together, and we must renew our commitment to support each other no matter where the next battle takes place. Women standing together in Washington and in the Amazon need our support and our action.

In defiance of climate deniers, of “alternative facts”, of handing over the reigns of government to the oil industry, of targeting women, immigrants and people of color, and in defiance of those who destroy nature to extract a profit – we stand together in resistance. Amazon Watch will continue to support efforts for climate justice and human rights in the U.S. and in the Amazon. Our allies and supporters know that our efforts are all interconnected and all lead towards the same goal: respect for human rights and the environment.

We are counting on your support. Each of us must commit to do more. Thank you for standing with us and with the resistance. May the forest be with you!

Beer Recall: Sierra Nevada Pulls Bottles Due to Chipped Glass Risk

Beermaker Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is recalling some of its bottled beer sold in 36 states, after a flaw was found in the glass containers that could pose a risk of injury to consumers, according to the company.

On Sunday (Jan. 22), the company announced that a very small number of its bottles were found to have a flaw that could cause a small piece of glass to break off the top of the bottle and fall inside the container.

The recall affects bottles that were produced at one of the company’s breweries in North Carolina from Dec. 5, 2016, through Jan. 17, 2017. Sierra Nevada estimates that just 1 out of every 10,000 bottles packaged during this time has the flaw, but the company decided to issue a voluntary recall “to ensure the safety of our consumers,” a statement on the company’s website said. So far, the company has not received any reports of people being hurt from the recalled bottles.

The recall applies to the following varieties of Sierra Nevada beer, sold in 12-ounce bottles: Camp Golden IPA, Pale Ale, Sidecar Orange Pale Ale, Tropical Torpedo, Nooner, Hop Hunter, Otra Vez and Torpedo Extra IPA. These bottles could have been purchased by U.S. consumers at stores in the Midwest, South and East Coast, the company said. The exact beers affected by the recall are listed on the company’s website. Consumers who bought any of the recalled beer are advised not to drink it, and can get a refund.

But what if people who bought the recalled beer already drank it? Sierra Nevada said that if consumers opened and drank a bottle with this flaw, they could have noticed a few things. First, before opening the bottle, the consumer might have noticed signs of the beer leaking out of the top of the bottle. And if the beer was opened, a small piece of the top of the bottle might have broken off, causing the top to appear rough or uneven. If consumed, the beer might have had a “flat” taste due to loss of carbonation, the company said.

If people think they have consumed glass, or if they have a related health concern, they should contact their doctor or call 911, the company advised.
