In the pursuit of 21st Century living … Vote4DEMsElection2016 #HillaryClinton

WomenshcToday, in this 21st Century life, women still have to demand and or protest for the right to make their own personal health care choices.  It would be in all our best interests to remember the things Romney said about Roe V Wade, Planned Parenthood and to Minorities …including his comments about that 47% he targeted during his Presidential campaign.  I admit to not being able to understand or want to think about the trump factor in any part of a Woman’s health care decision, we all heard him say some women would face punishment for exercising their rights and while the Presidential race is close the fact remains… Today’s republican politician’s in Congress are extreme. We still have Republican Governors bent on making reproductive rights a moral issue, pushing abortion clinics out of reach, making women jump through hoops, and go through unnecessary procedures to shame them like transvaginal scopes as well as requirements that treat women as less than. The idea that women would have to wait for a procedure they choose to pay for let alone have to hear a doctor telling patients what any Governor wants is beyond offensive. Women need to be asking if this is big Government at work and demanding a change?

There are Bishops who want control of the women in their circles; maybe we need to tax those who want government funds but discriminate.

I will admit, the cliché, “do as we say NOT as we do” keeps coming to my mind every time I hear folks like the Governor of Mississippi speak on issues of women’s reproductive rights. The donald has allowed and unleashed other anti-choice republicans in office to show their true selves and we need to vote their sorry asses out! Why do we accept that Men’s health care issues unlike women’s are treated different? We all know doctors provide enhancement drugs among other things without question to the men in our or out of our lives. The crazy thing is most women are happy that men can receive great health care services because it means the women in their lives are healthier as well. Unfortunately,  women of colour are being singled out as abortion scarlet’s , abortion abusers, portrayed as something mysterious possibly evil and definitely disrespected by some extreme folks on the right who do not seem to understand that birth control , contraceptives and abortion if needed are a part of ALL women’s health care.  This includes the notion that single women who decide to keep their babies as the ones who “create thugs” so for them there seems to be no win win situation with the left of center and extreme right.

Sadly, women know that the struggle to gain equality in all its forms is an ongoing fight ….We must continue the fight for reproductive rights! I appreciate all the bills that have been signed by President Obama to push Americans into 21st Century living …

Finally!

I -1433 … What is it really ?

voter-suppression_petition

So, I got my “Voter’s Pamphlet” and while i was still am psyched to get my vote in, this thing is huge and the local issues are even more important than ever. There are quite a few issues so i will only be commenting on a few.  So, Washingtonians take your time and read this thing called a “Voter’s Pamphlet” but let me just say it is much more … It holds our future that can and will change the lives of our kids least we talk about their kids … economically educational

The first thing I saw that needed vetting was what looked like changes to the wage increase schedule that was purposed in 2015 least we talk about what i thought got passed, which was $15 min wage for Seattle, wonder what happened to that and has this changed the hours workers in Seattle are getting because business attitudes of old were to drive wages down saving them overhead like insurance etc. If your business has revenue in the millions maybe more don’t your workers deserve to be paid for the profit you’re enjoying.? I think I-1433 helps those who haven’t worked in their industry of choice but have good credentials and quite possibly young and no credentials but need to work by 2021 or says the “Voter’s Pamphlet but who knows if changes have been attached to all of these numbers.  Don’t get me wrong increases for Americans seem long past due; say 20 years in my opinion.

Suffice it to say … Some big business folks do NOT like it … some are asking about that $15 wage passed and what incentives do they get out of it and that … is the missing piece for them. I am somewhat confused by the UW stance as it supports aspects of both in the argument for and against … such as: Independent economists including the UW prove that prices do not rise when min wages increase … but then warned most communities can’t absorb 30percent wage increase

Anyway, the initiative below, is typed verbatim and though i included this, there are several pages that need to be read vetted and contemplated before Nov.8 and it is a yes or no vote …

So, given the obvious votes for our locals seats for Olympia,  the initiatives are life changing and deserve research, questions and much thought before voting because it’s tricky … I-1433 might slow down the increases but gets the job done by 2020 depending upon what field you’re in ?

The pamphlet says …

I-1433 concerns labor standards — It will also requires employers to provide paid sick leave and adopt related laws re: earning and using paid sick leave by Jan. 2018

This measure would increase the state minimum wages to …

$11.00 in 2017

$11.50 in 2018

$ 12.00 in 2019

$13.50 in 2020

Hey, if you gleam something different let me know

Has Congress embarrassed Americans … hmmmm the hyde amendment 40yrs

all_male_panel_congressmenABCjust another rant  …

So, over 50% voted to keep President Barack Obama for a 2nd term. In my opinion, republicans are still acting as if they had  carpets pulled out from under them as they professed right up to the day we were informed that PBO won both the electoral and popular vote that Romney had won. Now, in this 2016 year, the 114th Congress is even worse than we could have all imagined as they meet less, seemingly vote against their constituents in every session and refuse to let President Barack Obama govern every chance they get. I need, want constituents to wake up and wonder how some of these folks got away with making millions to  consider them as carpetbaggers now. Today, we must all be as patient as those who stood in line for hours to vote, be ready to fight back, stand up and speak out against Republicans members of the 114th Congress in Campaign2016 while they manage to continue to hold Americans hostage.

If you listen to FOX, they seem to be whipping up the notion to take hostages, Senator Cruz cost Americans $24 Billion so do not be surprised.  I have major issues with FOX being considered a news program when they are actually a Republican station spreading the GOP word, so any use of them as a resource is just a distraction as they say oh we believe in progress while voting NO on the floor of Congress least we talk about what legislation republican Governors are signing.  I get that POTUS negative numbers are media worthy but voters are starting to tune in. I am particularly concerned about a woman’s right to choose as some Republican Governors continue to pass unacceptable legislation to make abortion or contraceptives hard to get while screaming about their religious freedoms being violated. It is in all our best interests, as Women and as voters who care about equal rights to keep the image of the all-male panel in mind that not only refused to listen to Sandra fluke, they denied Eleanor Holmes Norton a seat at the table as well.

I don’t know about you but I was pissed, scared and determined not to let a group of men turn back the clock on women who fought and suffered from a lack of Equality in all its forms so that women of the future may have the right to choose maybe experience some respect and freedom. Yet, we all saw heard and watched gasping. I am still asking , are these men were serious and di they think women are too stupid to make their own health care decisions or is there another reason for the sudden need to ban birth control possibly trash roe V wade altogether. I know Women’s suffrage was about whole lot more than reproductive rights, we all must remember how long it took Congress to pass VAMA among many other legislation to help women.  They(Republicans) continue to stall or filibuster bills that will help main street, single women with children and the poor while Congress, specifically republicans have decided, no business is good business for their future Elections, but as VP Joe Biden stated in his 2012 debate, roe V wade is only as safe as the Supreme Court justices allowed to sit on the court are objective.

In my opinion, The Hyde amendment was a knee jerk reaction from a man or group of men who believed they had the right to invade a Woman’s personal space, health care choice and their right to choose while demanding their religious freedom. Such hypocrisy by Republicans maybe a few Conservadems definitely needs more airtime.

Unfortunately, in the end it became a law.

Unhappy Birthday to the Amendment That Started the War on Women

We can thank former Rep. Henry Hyde (R.-Ill.) for setting us on this path. The attacks on contraceptive coverage can be traced back to an amendment of his that turns 36 years old today. The Hyde Amendment…

If not now, When?

mayorsagainstguns

just another rant …

and a question for Bernie Sanders and his supporters … at what point will you all say enough is enough?

The months wear on but most have NOT forgotten Newtown …

They say there are more deaths from hand guns, yet another massacre has taken place … can we just ban automatic weapons

Tell your Democratic or Republican member of Congress that the time has come for #GunSafety #GunReform #UniversalBackgroundChecks

People on the far left say they are progressive but i missed that enthusiasm for trying to do something progress like wanting to make folks accountable, change or reform the archaic laws on the books regarding guns which should be updated to meet our 21st Century lives … where are they?

I am against handguns … period.  The incidents my family, friends even some co-workers have experienced have molded my attitude over the years, and a narrow escape or two of my own. The thought of a teacher being responsible for having or being forced to keep a handgun or anything larger in the classroom just does not make sense.

As more Americans watch, wait and wonder when Congress will take a stand on gun control, more say there is absolutely no reason a civilian should own or have access to an assault weapon. The fact is assault weapons, the standard infantry combat choice for most modern armies has no place in a civil society.  Police already have trouble protecting and serving our communities against illegal guns, legislation that broadly regulates the firearms industry and firearms owners let alone automatic weapons solely made and meant to kill people quickly.

At what point will our members of Congress, the firearm industry and owners stand up speak up or out over the current stalemate to move gun laws into the 21st Century. The NRA has been a thorn in all our sides, spending millions lobbying for gun rights while controlling votes in Congress. The Second Amendment, states: “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”   I have to say, who doesn’t believe this amendment is in dire need of revaluation for the lives of our citizens.

In 1994, Congress added a background check system to strengthen our existing laws to keep guns out of the hands of felons, drug abusers, and the mentally ill. In 2004, Congress let the assault weapons ban expire. It is time to recognize and change the flaws in the background check system that have enabled folks to arrange hits, commit heinous crimes, violent deaths or massacres like Columbine, Virginia Tech, Arizona, Michigan, Washington state Colorado, Chicago , Texas, Santa Monica,DC,Illinois,Ohio,NY,San Bernardino, Missouri,Baltimore,Minnesota

If not now, when is a good question.
